Arrival, A

Toph Beifong is not having a good day. Water over her head already is a perfectly sensible fear dislike of hers, given she can’t bend it, or see which way shores are, and she can’t doesn’t swim. But, sure, turtle-creature drags her to shore after someone gives her a weird sip of something warm. Thanks, turtle-creature.

But when she finally gets something solid under her, it hits her that she can feel it, but she can’t feel it with earthbending. And it feels like hard dirt, so this isn’t some sort of weird ‘ha ha, we have built everything out of wood or ice or something stupid like that’ trick.

“Come on, this is not funny.” Toph knows that she should calm down — she’s the world's greatest earth bender, and she figured out how to bend metal by having literally nothing else to focus on (besides two idiots talking) — but even the world’s greatest earth bender has limits, and this day is trying them.

Off to the side, a fuzzy creature shakes itself off and goes to break the news to her new mistress.

Snow Games, C

Snow chicken sounds like exactly Toph’s idea of a good time — a friendly game of knocking people down, and if she’s the one on top, she doesn’t have to worry about navigating or dealing with her new boots. (This is the situation she’s forced into — she has no reason not to wear shoes, and her feet are too cold to be barefoot out of general orneriness).

Toph walking up to whoever sounds tall (or has a familiar voice), and gestures. “Come over here. I want to show these yetis who is boss.”
