IT WAS, but also consider the smell.

Zelgadis genuinely likes Allura. She's polite, sophisticated, not a drooling gremlin like Darin, etc. He can tell that she's the kind of person that tends to see the world in black and white, which he doesn't always think is such a bad thing. Sometimes the world needs people like that to steer people like Zelgadis in the right direction a bit maybe.

That said, he does think that it makes her a little too... maybe not naiev? But maybe the kind of person who thinks that she's always right about a situation, and maybe that's the reason that she's always butting heads with Darin. Speaking of Darin, Zelgadis is fascinated by their ridiculous interactions. It's like being back home with his idiot friends. Darin and Allura are Zel's happy place, and he hates it.

THAT SAID, Zelgadis considers him to be one of his best friends in this shithole and he is genuinely concerned about Darin and all his weird shounen protag problems. He doesn't know how to help, BUT HE WANTS TO.
