What Draws You To Your Character?

Hey, it's a not-meme.

One thing I always find fascinating in this hobby is what draws people to the characters they play so this is me asking you that.

What drew you to your characters? What do you find fun about them? What aspects of them do you find easy or difficult?

For OCs, talk about how you came up with the idea for them and why you wanted to give them a spin in this hobby.

Read, converse, ask questions!

You can answer in list form, prose form, whatever form you're most comfortable with and with as much or as little detail as you want.

Princess Allura | Voltron: Legendary Defender

What initially drew me to Allura isn't what draws me to her now. Originally, I thought she was a very cool reimagining of the character from the original Voltron, visually. And I also really liked how she as a character seemed downright eager to get involved in the action. What really solidified my interest was when we got to see some of what makes her tick in the first season episode Crystal Venom, where she made some big sacrifices for the sake of saving the ship and the rest of the team. She had a massive strength of will, but she clearly still had a lot of room for character growth, and I was so eager to see what they did with her.

And... they did her so dirty. If you know anything about VLD, you probably heard how they did her dirty. Nowadays, what draws me is exploring the new directions that can be taken with her character, and filling in my own blanks on the things they never really explored.

I love how there's so many facets to her personality. It makes her feel like a cohesive whole, like a full personality (if not a self-actualized one), and I find it easy to get inside her head. In particular, I love that she can have a lot of cute or dorky moments, but she still retains a sense of elegance and strength.

The most challenging thing about her... is probably maintaining the balance to different parts of her. For example, I love playing up her alien nature, and the culture shock of someone from a different time and space. But I have to balance it with her more relatable elements, the ways in which she's very human at heart. Honestly, though? I like it, it makes it all the more satisfying when I feel like I'm doing her justice.
