the caravan to camelot

[ well, today has been full of surprises. byleth leans on a length of driftwood that had looked suitable for a makeshift walking stick—her injuries may have been dealt with, but she still finds herself feeling utterly exhausted, and much weaker than she’s used to.

she looks over the smartphone with a faintly perplexed expression, a black eagle perched on her gauntlet. she... definitely has no idea what she’s looking at. someone has at least explained how to use the earbuds, even if a lot of the whys and hows still escape her. a black winter cloak is on over her clothing and two swords hang at her waist: one a finely crafted thing of silver and gold, the other almost wicked-looking, apparently carved of bone, with dark green blood splattered and crusted over much of its length.

byleth is generally good at intuiting things, but this really is leaps and bounds past anything she’s familiar with. even after getting into the (very strange!!!) carriage, she still doesn’t quite understand. perhaps this is a dream? that would serve to explain some things. it can hardly be real, she has things to get back to—her fingers go, idly, to a gold eagle pendant around her neck.

finally, she glances to the person nearest her with a sigh, placing the phone into one of her pockets.

Have you followed any of this so far? [ please help. ]

the red spring

[ now, this is marginally more familiar territory. a lot of the devices in the room are, once again, alien to her, but! inns! modest rooms and warm beds! that’s more like it. byleth finds her placement before whoever she’s been put with does, taking a seat on the bed to try to steady herself. the eagle flutters away, perching on one of the room’s light fixtures. she finds the tv remote and, curiously, presses the power button, turning it on and landing on some navigation screen. when she hears the door start to turn, she’s still trying to work the thing. what the hell is a movie. what’s a video game????

the spring confuses her much less, and is much more welcome. a pang of nostalgia for the baths at the monastery strikes as she settles into the water, letting the warmth flow through her. she sees sparks of flame flicker at her fingertips as she brings her hand up out of the water once, brow furrowing. she’s used magic before, but that’s… new.

trial and icy error

[ she can almost hear one of her friends saying that a snowball fight is beneath her. she was once the vessel of a goddess, she was instrumental to a war that toppled a millennium-old social order, she’s the commander of the black eagle strike force, the marshal of the adrestian empire, the “wings of the hegemon”—

byleth can’t bring herself to care. it’s fucking fun. and it’s not like she’s just screwing around, it’s encouraged!!! she ducks behind a snowbank, infusing wind magic into one snowball and hurling it at a (hopefully) unsuspecting target. brace for the rainbow whirlwind, folks.

quest: fogueria

[ fighting monsters is much, much more familiar territory. she’s just used to having more backup than this. byleth blocks one flaming swipe with the shield on her left arm, bringing up her blade—swirling with razor-sharp ice crystals—in a retaliatory swing before she leaps a step back, hitting the beast with a burst of ice.

this seems doable, but not on her own—but she sees movement just in her periphery, beyond the space lit by the fogueria’s flames. someone else is here, hopefully for the same reason. pointedly, over the crackle of fire—

Step in any time! [ come on. co-op time. right??? ]
