Regardless of what you were in the middle of, you and your familiar have been magically pulled into the world of Avalon just above the Bay's chilly waters. After a brief plunge into the Bay, the rush of water filling your ears and soaking up into every creak and crevice of your body, you may need to cough to clear your airways when you rise above the surface. It's paralyzingly cold for a few seconds before you're approached by the Lady of the Lake beneath the water's surface. She puts a vial of a vibrant, glowing red Everwarm* potion to your character's lips. The icy water doesn't feel so icy once consumed and you'll be able to move your limbs enough to swim to shore on your own. She can't stick around to explain, she's got to get this to all the new arrivals! Many of which you'll see plopping in around you. If you can't swim, a handful of helpful ice turtles will scoop you up from beneath and drop you off at the shore. When not helping people, the turtles are going around and hitting the ice that keeps forming on the surface with their shells to keep the surface open for the falling arrivals or pushing personal items to the beach near the new arrivals they smell like (belong to). If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. If anyone with Animal Magic asks the turtles, they will give the full spiel, but very slowly, and they like to get off topic and gossip about other turtles you've never heard of. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, but if you do fall, be prepared for a mysterious sand hand to reach out of the side of the cliffs to catch you. The hand will pat you atop the head twice before retreating back into the wall. This is the Cliff Beast; despite the name, he is quite friendly. B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot Once everyone is wrangled up to the top of the White Cliffs, the handsome owner of the Rent-a-Ride, Archimedes, will distribute smart phones, a pair of earbuds, and a winter cloak** to everyone before getting them settled in groups into modernized carriages pulled by horses and give them a basic explanation of why and how they've been brought to Avalon: The universe is frozen in time and your character has been brought here by a familiar that was able to bond with them. They'll have to learn magic to help save their own world from destruction, but first they've got to get them to Camelot. It is here that you have the first opportunity to decide who they will be in their new home. You'll have about an hour to wander around here, meet and greet, and pet the horses before it's time to go. These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console with nip bottles. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, avalononline (AOL), to chat with other characters, watch dumb videos, learn about the world, contact Camelot Support (they'll answer any questions they can for you, from how to use a smart phone to where to find quests and resources to learn more about your magic). Be careful if you decide to use your phones while in the caravan-- if you don't use those earbuds and start forcing everyone to listen to your nonsense, Archimedes may make you walk. C ⦿ The Red Spring The journey from the White Cliffs to the City of Camelot is a long one, and the first evening you arrive you'll end up spending at the Red Spring, a booming resort town. Because of the volume of new arrivals and vacationers, inn rooms are assigned two-to-a-room. The rooms have two twin beds, a bathroom, a mini-fridge and microwave, and a TV equipped with a couple of entertaining video games and a few free movies. If you don't want to relax in the room, try taking a dip in the spring for another chance to meet your fellow travelers. The waters have restorative properties that help horses and travelers recover quickly when drunk. It is known to relieve stress, improve energy levels, and mildly accelerate healing. It may be a little chilly when you get out though, so make sure you don't slip rushing back indoors when you get out! The springs are also home to a large training grounds just outside town limits, where there are teachers who will teach basic magic safety and help you discover what kind of magic you have together with other new arrivals. Try target practice, obstacle courses, meditation circles, and other ways to try to figure out just what you can do... if you didn't already have an accidental discovery on the ride there. A ⦿ Trial and Icy Errors Winter has arrived in Avalon, and with it has come to a change in the weather. Puffs of breath precede sentences when outside, small fires fill braziers to allow people to stop and get warm for a moment between where they come from and where they are going. Snow has begun to fall; at first, it is the same, fluffy, white flakes many adventurers will have seen. However, as the day progresses, the snow begins to shimmer; it’s like a prismatic effect, a magical light catching against every little crystal and illuminating sparkling flakes, so vibrant it’s clear someone has enchanted the snow. Shortly after the change, there will be a text alert to all devices: Tired of the same old routine with your magic? Ready for a little something new? Come on out and have an old fashioned snowball fight with a magical twist. Be sure to practice your new powers and have fun! 😉 -Merlin Those who come outside to find the rainbow snow already being packed into neat balls by Camelot's citizens; go ahead and grab a basket full but remember, don’t just toss them. Let’s get magic with it! Different types of magic will have different effects on the enchanted snow: Use kinetic magic to toss three at once. Nevermind if they suddenly balloon inside and burst into a snow shower over your opponent, throw a couple more; some are bound to hit, right? Throw a little animal magic in there and morph a few into a bear or some other animal of your intent; sorry about his random dance attack, at least your opponent will be laughing too hard to throw a snowball at you. Try hiding them in a shield or cast an illusion with some light magic; better apologize when that goes sideways and the snow hardens, bursting into rainbow crystals at your opponent's feet. Team up with someone who has cognitive magic; they can telegraph you the plan without your opponents being any the wiser... except the snow seems to be picking up on it and sending those thoughts right to your opponent! Perhaps use this as an opportunity to learn control! Maybe you want to try using a little wind magic if you’re of the elemental class; watch out for the rainbow snow squall your perfectly lobbed snowballs will become. Healing magic is one you might not see coming-- enchanting a snowball with healing magic can result in positive mood enhancements. Give your enemies a blast of zen to lower their guard and make them an easy target! A dark magic user might think to add a little hex to their snowball; give themselves an edge... too bad, without practice, that hex might be a little too heavy and burst over the maker before it even leaves their hand! Hope you know how to fix it. Alchemists are welcome to change the shape of those snowballs. Maybe try and craft them into something a little more stealthy or projectile. Too bad that snow seems to want to turn into a batch of butterflies and be free... magic sure is tricky! But hey, they sure are pretty. In the end, it seems while adventurers will be able to get plenty of practice in, some of that practice is going to come from trying to stop the side effects of mixing their powers with the magic snow; welcome to your first lesson in control. If one is going to use magic in conjunction with already magically imbued things, they ought to know the right amount, seems Merlin wants you all to learn in a trial by snowball error. Those who practice their magic and participate in the snowball fight will be given hot chocolate, warm soup, fresh baked goods, or other treats to warm them up after their training is done. But don’t slack off! You’re like to find your hot chocolate spiced with pickle flavor, that warm treat suddenly turns to ice cream in your mouth. Avalonians want that practice to happen, and are willing to add some incentive... whether that means the carrot or the icicle. All throughout the City of Camelot is a buzz of excitement about the oncoming winter solstice on the 21st. Citizens will tell you of the winter solstice's importance in cleansing the flow of Avalon's magic each year and absorbing sunlight to increase its potency. In other words, the winter solstice generates a significant amount of magic if the proper ritual is followed, so the visitors from other worlds really should head on over to Albion's White Cliffs. A ⦿ The Darkness in the White Cliffs The first task that you'll experience during the ritual is asking the Cliff Beast's permission to enter the cliffs. Though they look wholly solid on the outside, these cliffs contain a veritable labyrinth of magical caves that weave in and out of the chalky cliffs. As there is danger within these walls, it is recommended no one go alone. The Cliff Beast will only open a door to the caves for parties of two or more who present him with a gift. The gift doesn't need to be something significant, just a show of courtesy-- a lovely rock or a seashell will do, placed at the base of the cliff. The only gifts he will outright reject are precious gems and metals. Honestly, they make him a little nauseous-- and you don't want to see a cliff beast nauseous. In fact, if you try it, the Cliff Beast will suddenly burst into a rockslide right near where the gem was left. Watch out! Once you gain entrance, you will find there is no light within the caves and the door seems to close behind you. Non-magical lights won't illuminate anything within these caves, so you will need to either navigate through the darkness or find a magical means to light your path. Be wary-- traveling in the dark will be a much safer journey if you can find your way through the caves and keep track of your companions. The reason there is no light are the bat-like creatures that eat energy like fire and electricity. With the magical light attracting them and nothing to consume, they'll be very aggressive and swarm anything emitting heat.. like an unsuspecting traveler. Make too much noise, and the Cliff Beast will spit you out back onto the sand and you'll have to start over. B ⦿ "For a greedy man, even his tomb is too small." Those who persist within the caves will eventually come upon a room whose ceiling glistens with bioluminiscent microbes that are too small for the bats to eat. These little glowing creatures create reflections in the room that show just what it contains-- glimmerings of precious gems, gold, and other treasure cover the walls and floor, save for a large flat stone altar in the center. There are many hand-crafted clay cups filled with what appears to be water. The side of the alter has a very simple message: "TAKE ONE CUP TO THE SPRING, LEAVE THE REST. SPILL NO DROP." Sure enough, this matches with the instructions you were given about the ritual: Take a cup of waters harvested by the Asrai, a fairy that lives within the walls of the cliffs that cultivates it every year to bring to the Red Springs for the Winter Solstice. There is no clear warning about what will happen if you take anything besides your one cup. However, characters who disobey this instruction and take any of the riches within the cave will initially experience severe symptoms such as magical blockage, an endless common cold, and food turning to ash in their mouth. They will experience dreams in which they are urged to return the treasure and a day later, advanced symptoms if it goes on for too long have been known to result in vomiting frogs and snakes, insomnia, speaking in tongues despite the translation spell, bleeding from the ears, and eventually death. C ⦿ Drink Up Those who listen and take the Asrai's cups to the Red Springs will notice while carrying the cups, all creatures and threats will leave you in peace. Neither rain nor snow will touch you, parting from your path in both the sky and on the ground. The effects will only last as long as you don't spill a single drop. The ritual can still be completed, but the protections only work if you don't spill-- otherwise you'll be fighting off weather, creatures, other people, and whatever else you encounter as the effects of a spilled cup will cause those around you to try to steal your cup without thought for your safety, even if they might not even think to do normally. Upon arriving at the Red Springs, a party of people there to guide those who have made the ritual's journey to a particular pool within the vicinity of the springs. Characters will be directed to take a sip, then pour the rest into the Spring alongside your peers, finally throwing the clay cup itself into the spring. Throughout the day, you will begin to feel strangely giddy, but it will pass. Nothing much will seem like it happens otherwise, but the guides assure you that you will understand on the night of the winter solstice when the ritual is complete and your body becomes a conduit to purify and rejuvenate Avalon's magic. For now, as thanks, the guides offer you one of the celebratory gifts they have to offer-- free drinks (this time of the age-appropriate alcoholic or sugary variety), a free night's stay at the Red Springs, a yule log, an escort, a Recipe: Snow Dance. (Effect: Snow Dance will cause small flurries to pick up where the spell is cast, resulting in decreased visibility. Only works if snow is already present, as it cannot generate elements.) The choice is yours. Pick one. A. Soaking in your Arrival
[ Emerald didn't like the cold. She prefers warm and she likes to dress like it's always warm. Needless to say, she almost drowned herself screaming at the sudden freezing temperatures before she was dosed Everwarm. By the time she makes it to the beach, she's coughing up water onto the beach and staring down a sea turtle that's pushing her things in a basket to shore. She scrambles to grab her things as soon as it's backed off enough and Emerald starts looking up at the skies.

For half a second, the cold had her thinking maybe she'd dreamed about the weird.. Grimm that she was suddenly somehow connected to. As if them hanging around at Salem's wasn't bad enough, now she's got her own special Grimm partner...s? She's not really sure on the plural here. If anything could make her miss Mercury, it'd be that. At least it's way smaller than it should be.

Emerald picks the snake up, still around pet boa size, holding it away from herself.. which isn't very useful since both ends have heads, so it could definitely bite her and is choosing not to. ]

Try anything and I'll shoot you.

B. Caravan to Camelot
[ Without an active aura to regulate temperature, Emerald's characteristic tube top style is immediately becoming a detriment. With the Everwarm wearing off, she's arguing with someone about the coats. She wants an oversized one, like a blanket, not one that fits her. She wants extra warm and she wants it now. So she'll be finding anyone who looks like they have a bigger fit than her and gives a friendly smile. ]

[ She wants someone else to put hers on before she does so she can fit-adjust it to someone bigger instead of to herself.. ]

C. Quest: Fogueria
[ Emerald's a good fighter and can handle herself quite well. Knowing she's very vulnerable doesn't really help, she plays it a little safer, but right now.. she needs money. She has no fallback right now and she's pretty sure if she isn't careful, she's going to end up getting evicted from her new home.

And so she's out in the middle of the night with a bit of meat from the Hogtied quest tied to a string, and she swings it back and forth in circles, like she's playing with it very skillfully. She is used to fighting with kusarigama, after all, so if it weren't a chunk of pig it would probably look really pretty.

But she's not going for pretty right now, she's going for smell and mess. That's how you attract a beast, right? Though.. You know, someone trying to do the same in the dark may get a bit of blood from the pig splattered on them as she swings. Oops. ]

[ The groaning is what you hear first. Miserable groaning, followed by man stumbling out of the water. A man? No. Tattered, filthy clothes and pale, patchy skin.. There's brownish-red aged blood leaking from atop his head like a headwound (it's temporary hairdye to cover up his bright pink hair). Black smears underneath his eyes like he hasn't slept for a thousand years-- who needs sleep when you're undead? (Taichi does-- but in this case, it's lake-soaked mascara smudge.) His eyes are glassy (watery-- he's got pink contacts in and one of them is irritating him after the plunge). Overall, a terrifying sight... and he's coming right toward you, one hand reaching...!

Is it for brains?! (or for help, seriously, does anyone have a towel?) ]

B. He's got Snowballs
[ Back to his usual clean, human, and bright red-headed self, Taichi has no idea what his magic is and that's making for some very dramatically thrown snowballs at just about anyone...

[A] A TEENAGER AND THE INTERNET

[There's something comforting about the familiarity of a phone and "internet" connection. It's not quite right, and of course it's not as familiar as he wants it to be, but it's something similar. It'll do. The earbuds are quickly slotted into each pointed ear, as Tamaki is the last person to subject others to his browsing habits. Once he finds a place to post his question, he does:]

I guess it's a little hopeless to assume I'm not here alone.

[B] SPRING DIP

[Honestly, relaxing in the spring sounds incredibly decadent all things considered, but it's also completely welcomed. Tamaki isn't weak, but traveling always takes it out of a person, especially if it's a long trip. So he finds himself wandering to the springs which — correctly or incorrectly seem to be devoid of other travelers.]

At least it's private... [With a towel secured around his waist he finds a place to settle in and relax. As soon as he's seated the aches and pains from the day seem to slowly start melting away and for the first time since he woke up choking on salty water he's feeling in slightly better spirits. That is until he hears footsteps and the sound of other people joining him in the water.

He shies away at first, hunched into his chosen spot as he is. He knows he should be more friendly, interacting with people is part of being a hero, but he's never been good at it. At least it's not a large crowd? He clears his throat, lifting one hand up in greeting.]

H..hello.

[C] SNOWBALL HESITATION

[Of course he got the invitation to join the magical snowball fight, but Tamaki finds himself hesitating even though he currently has one of those rainbow-colored snowballs held in his hand. He hasn't imbued it with any magic - not yet - but he does seem to be maintaining the temperature of the snowball with a little bit of ice conjuring in his hand. It's a small attempt, baby steps -- but it is an attempt. There's a small frown on his face as he turns to look at the person next to him.

He almost doesn't ask the question on his lips, but since it honestly troubles him:]

Don't you think it's a bad idea to throw magicked snowballs around without thinking about it first?

[D] QUEST: HOGTIED

[Catching a few pigs shouldn't be hard right? It was too hard to say no when he was asked by a farmer whose lands have been particularly hard hit, so hard or not once he's actually accepted the task on his phone, Tamaki has found himself facing down the third Talda Pig he's found this afternoon.

This one, however, seems to be smarter than the others that he's encountered so far, so while he's poised to lunge at the pig, the pig itself has other ideas. Tamaki looks fairly dirty at first glance, but he does seem awfully determined, even if at the moment he looks a little hesitant. The grimace on his face looks almost intimidating until you notice his bottom lip is wiggling a little. In a flash he's on the move, concentrating too hard to notice any passers-by.

Unfortunately, the part of the farm he's in is slippery with mud, and when the pig darts out of Tamaki's trajectory at the last minute, Tamaki finds himself unable to stop, skidding in the mud until he lands face down in it, covered. He winces, but doesn't bother getting up just yet. This would be so much easier if he still had his quirk.]

How humiliating... The laughter will start any second now...

spluttering and shivering, Kate barely keeps her head above the surface as reflexes to tread water kick in (necessary skills, she'd scoffed as a teenager in training. when am I ever gonna be dropped in water?) and she blinks away enough water to try and look around.

the hell just happened? and who the hell is this? )

What're you— ( welp. never mind. those two words open Kate's mouth enough that the stranger can pour a foreign liquid onto her tongue and slip away before Kate gets a chance to so much as spit it out. nothing good comes from randoms dropping stuff in your mouth, right? it's probably poison, probably part of the world's most convoluted murder attempt. which, Kate isn't about to say she's made no enemies in life, but no one who would go this far to kill her. it's impractical, and more than that—

her limbs are warm again. never mind thoughts of poison, she needs to move. let's see — water, water, random dark haired woman, water, shore!

... wait what? the woman is totally unfamiliar, with long dark hair that's entirely unlike either of the officers Marc brought with him when they met, and that's another question to add to the laundry list of things she already has: why does it appear she's alone? there's no sign of Ainsworth or Marc, or either of those officers, despite the fact that they were little more than two steps behind her as she exited.

and this woman just seems to be floating in the lake, waiting, almost as though she wants Kate to move first.

( while snowball fights, in and of themselves, are childish, Merlin does have a point about practicing magic and that's enough reason for Kate to dive into the fray.

it's practical. that's absolutely and totally the only reason she's doing this. it's far closer to a battle scenario than, say, sitting in a classroom learning to make things levitate with her kinetic magic. there's no fire in her eyes as she dives behind cover and her heart doesn't leap in victory as she sends a wave of snowballs towards movement and hears that satisfying ah! of someone smacked by them.

and so, being as practical as she is being about this, the only proper thing to do when you dive behind a wall and find someone else hiding there is to levitate three snowballs beside your shoulder and glare at the (probable) stranger. )

[ Freezing water. Sudden abduction. Magic. Just a few of Kaiba's least favorite things! He's not in much of a mood to talk until reaching the spring, where his desire to warm up once the 'potion' has worn off has barely outweighed his dislike of close proximity to strangers. ]

If they wanted to make us pliant for something, this would be one way to do it.

[ A quiet admission that it's...nice, actually. Not magic. But just soothing enough to take the edge off. ]

[ Doubt emerges once they're brought to the training grounds. The (mostly friendly) serpent coiled around his shoulder was a signal that something was off, but...magic? Here? Him?

[ By now, someone has reluctantly conceded the points that he does in fact have a new ability, he lives here until further notice, and he needs to survive until returning home is possible. That means getting paid when he doesn't yet have the means to run a business. And that means being an errand boy.

[The more Ken spent time in this place, the more he couldn't help but wonder what it had to offer for him. Based on what he had seen and heard, it didn't seem that bad. Although, he wasn't sure if that was his own anxieties getting in the way or he was simply fearing for the worse.

[As someone from the Southern Water Tribe, he should be used to cold water. Well, being tossed suddenly into it has never been his number one favorite thing. He doesn't need help from the ice turtles, but at least he can admire them on the way to the surface (after recovering from his sudden meeting with a beautiful lady in the lake).

Upon arriving to the surface, Momo jumps onto the ground from Sokka's shoulder and starts drying himself. Swimming is not his thing, thank you very much.]

[ This is bullshit.

To an outsider, Lily probably appears calm, if a little irritated – but inside, she’s stewing with anger. So she has to save the world, does she? That’s what it all boils down to, in the end. What’s more, she’s been called here to clean up the mess that someone else made.

It’s bullshit. Why does everyone always want her to save the world? She’s not the one who made it this way. Sure, she has power – or had, since the power she used to have seems to have vanished from her now, which is something she’s still trying to process… but that doesn’t make it her responsibility.

It doesn’t.

So Lily has no interest in playing along with the mission that’s suddenly been thrust onto her. She’s been taken away from Erina, from her home, and now the people here want her to fix their mistake? The more she thinks about it, the more irate she can feel herself growing.

So when she hears someone speaking – to her, it seems like – she snaps just a little bit. ]

So here she sits, lying on a bed on her room at the Red Spring. It’s actually not a bad place… if you ignore the fact that she’s sharing a room with someone.

She’s been trying her best to ignore that. Rolling over, Lily looks over to the collection of video games once more. She’s… tempted to play them. She doesn’t want to admit it, but she could really do with something fun right now. Something to take her mind off all this.

But it feels wrong to relax here, somehow – as if that’ll mean that she really has accepted the fact that she’s trapped here for good. So instead of doing what she wants to do, Lily glares at the games, as if they’ve done something to personally spite her. Honestly, it probably looks a bit ridiculous.

Then, she turns to you, and sighs. ]

They’re really just expecting us to act like nothing’s wrong, huh?

She’d finally, finally been free, and when she realized that, it was hard to hold back the elation she felt at the thought. Or so she’d thought at first, but…

It turns out she’s just had more magic thrust upon her that she didn’t ask for. And yet again, more people want to use her for it. Damnit… she’d naively hoped that she’d had a chance of being normal, in that brief moment – but reality quickly crushed her hopes to pieces.

Yet… there’s a childish, hypocritical part of her that can’t help but be curious about what she can do, now. How she can use this power for herself.

Those conflicting feelings seem to be at war with each other, and Lily stands there, staring at the snowball in her hand without doing anything. Then, suddenly, she it right in the direction of a random stranger. No magic, just an ordinary snowball.

Maybe that’ll help her feel a bit better. ]

[ Arriving here with her bow, a full stock of arrows, and her armor - Blair counts her lucky stars enough that they're still functional and don't require energy to be used. Except for her bow's electromagnetic catapult system, at least. So she's reduced to a regular person in light armor wielding a bow, and it's exhausting.

Finishing an obstacle course, Blair is immediately gassed out. Just falls on the ground catching her breath. Her dragon familiar flies down next to her. This small, puppy sized creature chirps and licks at her cheek, snapping her out of her reverie. Groaning, she leans up just in time to see someone looking at her. ]

[ Blair, still clad in her armor, slides from one cover to the other. She's definitely taking this seriously. Or not? It's hard to tell with her stoic expression, but with the way she's going about it sure suggest that she is. Her kinetic magic allows her to toss snowballs from a distance, so it's not that different from her usual fighting style. Steady with her breath, Blair peeks from the edge of her cover. She stays there for a moment longer, seeing someone else take cover behind something just a few meters away from her. She immediately gestures for a ceasefire. ]

1. Caravan

[Uenoyama sneezed loudly as his familiar, an older looking woman with hair neatly braided up and caught in a bun on top of her head, with a harp on her back, helped him put on the coat. There's a lot of cursing as he's ushered inside of the carriage, not really seeing if there's anyone in it, too worried about the guitar case that's now resting in his lap. Hell, he's afraid to open it and confirm if there's any damage on his precious instrument.

He sneezes again, and crosses his hands, sulking in his seat, looking completely miserable. The Muse, his familiar, nudges a warm drink (hot chocolate) in his hands but if the person looks worse off than himself he'll offer it.]

2. Trial and Icy errors

[Uenoyama is a summer child, through and through, but he can appreciate winter being beautiful when the snow falls. True, the prismatic looking one is fake but it's still nice. Muse was leading the way down the street, playing a note or two on her harp every two steps. She had convinced him to go to the pile of prismatic snow to practice his magic.

The Muse stands by his side as he forms the snowballs and then focuses on them, scowling a bit. It's weird to think he has magic, but after a few moments, it works!

Two of them fly in the direction he sends them- both of them exploding into a snow shower, the third one does a U-turn and slams right back into his face. There's a loud yelp as he tries to rub the snow off his face, now extremely red in his cheeks.]

What in the actual-! [Muse lifts her hands to cover her mouth in amused shock as Uenoyama's agitation just launches a bunch of other snowballs right at him.]

3. Quest: Snow Villas

[Wanting to distance himself from magic for a while, Uenoyama reads up a fairly normal request on the board, dresses up for winter and leaves the Inn. He's seen piles of snows near the edge of the city, a bit pulled into the nearby forest.]

A [ He spots a person nearby making a snow building and he walks over- it will be faster if they do it together right?] Need any help?

B [ Uenoyama finds a decent spot and sets on making his own building. A standard snow castle with a weird hole in the middle (the request said that). What's more distracting is that Muse is making some intricate, detailed snow sculpture of a willow tree with hanging leaves on thin icicles, right behind it, making his work pale in comparison. She looks pleased with herself, Uenoyama looks annoyed.]

She's covered in grime and sweat-stains that run through it, along with scrapes and scratches that are evident pretty much everywhere you look, but the cold doesn't appear to be a huge issue. Soaking in Your Arrival

When Claire had said that she had needed a shower, she wasn't kidding, but she hardly imagined that she'd go from the comfort of a train seat to being plunged into a frigid, icy bay. She flailed to the surface, but when she clawed her way to the surface her body seemed to seize up, the bone-chilling cold and sheer exhaustion she was feeling before her arrival making it hard to move. The strangeness continued when she caught sight of a woman with a glowing vial beneath the water. Without thinking, she took it, gulping down the potion greedily. It helped, she could feel it, but it didn't clear up the exhaustion.

Awkwardly, feet kicking and arms paddling desperately, joined by what seemed to be an enormous black dog Claire fought her way to the shoreline and flopped onto the chilly white sand. Breathing heavily, eyes wide and staring up at the sky, she tried to collect her thoughts and her breath. The dog wasn't far behind Claire, red eyes locked onto hers, panting and settling down beside her.

"Okay..." Claire said after several moments, pushing herself up as she realized she wasn't alone. "Where the hell are we?"

And, not expecting an answer, she shambles to her feet and starts towards anyone else that happens to be around.

"...Hey. You okay?"


The Red Spring

Claire didn't really understand what was going on at all, but the minute that she'd been told that there was a hot shower, a lot of her concerns got shelved. It'd felt like an epoch since she'd had one, and she immediately hopped in and spent a blissfully long time cleaning grime and blood and other unpleasantness from Raccoon City off herself. Emerging into the room after a time with a bathrobe held tight around her, she awkwardly smiled at whoever she'd gotten stuck with as a roommate.

"Hey. Sorry about that. I really, really needed that."

If the state of the clothes she has tucked under one arm is any indication, she's been through hell.

"I'm Claire. Guess...we're staying here together for a bit?"

Ordinarily not one for this kind of weird festival, Claire had adopted a when in Rome stance on most everything here. The trip through the caves had been freaking annoying, but she'd managed. Thankfully stumbling around in the dark came somewhat naturally to her after all her experience, and she had gotten through.

Grabbing up a cup, she carefully made her way towards the stairs up the cliffside.

"Ready?" she asked whoever was nearby. Or maybe just the big black dog that traipsed near her heels. It was up for debate.

Then he unfortunately trips and sprains his ankle during this time when he notices a woman asking him if he was alright.

“I’ll be okay, except I just sprain my ankle while carrying a couple of towels and cloaks for the newcomers,” he replies back, “You must be new to Avalon, right?”

Resting in the warm, bubbling waters with a drink in hand (Is that glass container allowed in here? Don't worry about it), Rei finally allows himself a sigh.]

[Rei is WAY too old to be seen participating in a snowball fight, and his pride is already wounded at having to practice something brand new in front of other people. The training grounds are about his limit.

Anyway. Dark magic is pretty cool, in theory. But it seems like something you need a victim target for to actually practice. So!]

[Settled into the inn room oh-so-generously provided, the first thing Rei does is get a drink. The second thing he does is take over one of the tables and try to take apart the smartphone and earbuds that were also oh-so-generously provided. They seem like pretty normal pieces of technology, but still. Just In Case.

He seems pretty absorbed in the process, inspecting each piece carefully. Do you, Oh Roommate, care to take a peek yourself?]

[In one good thing, at least his roommate appears to be an adult and also relatively normal looking. In bad things, Doppo wasn't good with normal adults.

But he was tired and this was his room, and he supposed this guy was just going to have to get used to it. He skirts around the man, who looks like he's concentrating, as much as he can, though, putting down his briefcase and pulling the hypnosis mic out of his pocket. The thing doesn't seem to be damaged at least, though he had no idea if it worked. Looking over at the man...had he taken his phone apart?]

This was really creepy. The potion may have numbed the cold, but he was still wet, his tie was practically strangling him, and for some reason, there was a skeleton of a whale following him.

He tried walking faster-he tried even running around the area with the carriages despite not wanting to move-but the thing would not stop. He was aware of what it looked like to the outside, just some businessman in a suit running from a dead whale, but it was freaking him out.

If anyone wanted to get close enough to explain taht thing was probably his familiar, they would hear him muttering about how he was cursed and probably going to die.

Doppo hadn't wanted to participate in the snowball fight; he really hadn't. That was Hifumi's thing, and much to his chagrin relief, he wasn't here to drag Doppo into it.

The snow was beautiful, however and he had to go outside to look. It was so dazzling he would've thought it was the effect of a mic, but it was all around. Plenty of people seemed to be getting into the spirit of the snowball fight, and it was seeing that he decided to go back inside.

Some random asshole had another idea, because it was then that a nice solid snowball hit Doppo on the head. "You little-"

They wanted a magic snow fight? Well, they were going to get one. Except the cursed snowball that Doppo had slapped together lasted all of 2 seconds before it exploded on him, cursing the very ground beneath his feet to turn to ice. Was that you he was sliding into? Probably, because now he was crashing into you, apologizing profusely with every inch of his body. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!!"

There was literally nothing that could phase him anymore. Giant dead whales following a nyooming human was one of those things. For a while, Sollux watched him run or briskly walk. He took a seat somewhere that seemed out of the way, wishing he had some sort of something to snack on while the entertainment was still good. Once it trailed off to the mumbling talk about curses, and after a self-check to see if he cared enough. It turned out to be a "barely enough care" and along with the tiny purple bee he decided that this was getting annoying more than fun. Annoying in a place that he had to be for more minutes than he care to spend watching a human melt down.

"Thtop it already, you're making an athh of yourthelf." Not even the good ath. Long teeth made for a bad time, but here he was, hoping at least some sort of break in the routine, broke the routine.

A) A Splashy Arrival

[Cold! Cold cold cold! Ruby had landed in the cold lake, the bitter cold of it all knocking the wind out of her before the Lady of the Lake came to her rescue. Once Ruby made her way to the surface and swam to shore, the girl was busy coughing up the water she swallowed before flopping on her back.]

That... that was harsh. Am... am I still in Atlas? Or around it? Uuuugh...

B) Trial and Icy Errors

[So. No Aura, no Semblance, but magic. It's odd having magic after being told the story of Remnant awhile back, but, hey, she'll deal with it! Right now, though, snowballs! As she has kinetic magic, this means she can really lob some at people!

Or just watch them explode before they even get close.]

C) QUEST - To Slay a Fogueria

[Ruby is quite entranced at the idea of slaying a beast. People are in trouble and she wants to help out the best she can! Of course, Ruby is a little in over her head as she sees the flame lion before her. She's thankful she still has Crescent Rose with her, but even she's unsure if it'll be more than what she can handle.]

C'mon... I'll teach you a lesson!

[As the beast roars and lungs at her, she uses her new magic to push herself away from the beast's grasp and trying to get a better angle at what she's dealing with.]

(Oh, that girl is asking for help in a snowball fight. Luckily for her, Harry has the same type of magic as her and has been slowly getting better at controlling it, so he jumps into the fight by her side and proceeds to create more rainbow snowballs.)

Hey, it looks like you’re going to need some help.

(He sends three snowballs at a time at the people on the other side with kinetic magic and some proceed to inflate faster than Aunt Marge after she enraged him one time and explode into a snow shower at them, while others boomerang and hit the trees behind them.

That was really strange for this snow to react to his magic.)

Arrival: B

After collecting familiar objects from the unfamiliar shore where they had been neatly settled beside his feet, he took in his surroundings. One of the procured items had five fingers and familial ties and before he could place it as he always had, Shigaraki was asked to listen to... Something he could care less about as it turned out. He didn't care why he was here, he cared how to get back.

Just wait a second. They brought him here to save the world he was unceremoniously kidnapped from? No. No thank you. In fact, that would be the opposite if what— Then again. That was his world to destroy. For all the things that it had done, to him, what heroes represented and what the world itself deserved? Alright. He could play along if it meant he got back to tearing it apart piece by piece himself.

Standing far from the water's edge with cloak in hand, white locks in semi-wet waves down his skin, he slipped a disembodied hand in front of his face, slotting it into its normal place. That same wet hair got shuffled around so he could see through the fingers. Any other of the treasures he thought destroyed in the fight for Liberation were kept in one arm underneath the cloak. The warm clothing was something he appreciated deep down considering his state of undress and the want to maybe just be warm, not shirtless and annoyed.

For now though, for now. Horses? He can what the horses? Pet the horses? The last thing he ever put his hand on animal wise didn't go so well. Being told while he was looking at them that he could pet them was a little unnerving. His face didn't say as much, but the momentary hesitance to raise his hand despite looking like he wanted to was where it showed. Maybe for now just milling around with them, watching them pull carts while he gained the want to put his hand on the beast and ignore small items being tossed invisibly at his feet. That had been happening a lot and with all the other odd things around here linked to the people there, he chose to ignore it and concentrate on keeping the cloak tightly closed and watch majestic animals for the moment.

Red Spring: C

Inn Room

Someone left the gaming enthusiast with a room, a bed and a way to be anti-social the best way he knew how. Playing a game and ignoring whoever it was that just came through the door. Not that this man, whole as he is an actual adult, gave off the vibes of someone who was going to actually give the time of day. Just a slouched, leg-crossed, game-focused man who's red eyes hardly blinked as they crossed the screen.

This is also the first time he had been able to hold a controller properly, not that he had that inclination and played very easily with both of his pinkies up off the handles of the controller. Best roommate ever, you know, unless someone was brave enough to try to talk to the scarred mess of skewed priorities.

Hot Spring
Having heard of them from home, after sinking into the water, Tomura wondered why he hadn't ever done this before. The answer was an easy one, instantaneous in his head, but that was beside the point. He felt more relaxed here than he had in years anywhere. Anywhere. The people around him weren't as vexing and testing on his nerves and though he wasn't going to be the one to start a conversation, it certainly had crossed his mind. This was certainly something else entirely. It wasn't going to do anything for his existing injuries, but it relaxed sore muscles and was just over-all pleasant. If he couldn't do anything about getting home, he could at least plan for the future and nowhere better than getting his mind straight after he worked on his body. This was almost better than the game time that he hadn't done in a very long time.

The plan was to chill out here, relax, take a breather and head to the training grounds to find out what he was supposed to expect. But it was so nice. Just comfortable in the nice warm water. Maybe pruning in the water there a while longer wouldn't be so bad, especially where he was concerned.

Inn Room

Tamaki, for his part, is honestly just ready to go to sleep and hopefully wake up at home, this whole ordeal having been some kind of weird dream. He knows it's a pipe dream, but it makes things a little easier to cope with. He isn't even dreading being roomed with a stranger, it's no big deal. Exhaling a breath, Tamaki opens the door to the inn room and shuffles in with a quiet "excuse me" muttered under his breath.

He almost doesn't recognize the man on one of the beds, seeing as how he's facing away from the inn door to begin with. It is, however, pointedly hard to ignore the hand attached to his face. Tamaki freezes in place, shoulders squaring.

Ren Jinguji | Uta no Prince-sama | Prisma CRAU

Arrival

[What a rude way to arrive somewhere. Ren's initial response is to blame Prismatica/Lunatia/the Gods there but he's pretty used to shenanigans by now. Instead his focus is on a black german shepherd puppy who is shaking water all over the place - even on Ren, which he wipes off his face.]

To think they would drag you into something like this too. Usually you get to skip these kind of things.

[The puppy tilts his head before cuddling closer to Ren to give both of them some more warmth. And then kissing his face.]

Haha, that tickles, Sirius. Come on... we should be moving.

[Ren lifts the puppy up into his arms and gets up himself. Easier to travel and keep them both warm like this. Now where to, from here.]


Caravans

[Well, it seems this isn't Lunatia anymore.

Ren is grateful for the warm cloak as they arrive at the caravan. The road wasn't easy but at least they may it in one piece. The puppy by his side seems to be a lot more energetic now and he's sniffing everywhere with curiosity.

Ren, on the other hand, seems to have found his familiar (or the familiar found Ren, either way) and he's having a conversation with a fox fairy/kitsune. Which is rather stranger to him, considering he never went the Cordis route. But he has to admit that foxes work better for him than wolves.

After the kitsune leaves to do his own things and once Ren has confirmed that Sirius isn't in trouble, he starts browsing through the smartphone a bit to get familiarized with it.]


The spring

[Well, this is familiar and highly appreciated. Ren lets out a deep sigh as he gets into the spring, feeling the effects of the spring quite fast. He closes his eyes and just lets the warmth soothe him for a moment before looking at anyone there.]

Snowball fight

[Ren managed to figure out through training that he's a healer. He decides to test what happens if he focuses on a snowball for a while and then throws it. It might not be too convenient in a fight like this, but he might be surprised.

The Caravan to Camelot

[ Cehd'ra is not sitting politely in the carriage. He's crouching up on his seat with his tail curled around his ankles, slim phone in one hand as he hunches over it, pecking at the screen with one finger. Yet his frown only deepens and his ears only sink before, eventually, he lets his hand drop and the phone along with it.

On the floor before him is a rotund little creature, covered in black fur and sporting a single, massive eye.

Naturally, it's staring at him.

Cehd'ra's tail twitches. He deliberately looks away from the creature to his cabinmates. ]

Y'want a drink? 'Think there's something in one'f these bins...

[ Instead of waiting for an answer the miqo'te begins a search, before long finding a sliding door hiding a set of tiny bottles. He'd heard them clinking. Two are plucked up with little care as to what sort of liquor they contain, first choice being offered to his fellow new arrival.

The one-eyed creature does not have an expression that can be changed, but one could swear it's now staring harder. ]

Trial and Icy Errors

[ A night's rest and...Cehd'ra feels about as put out as he did at the start and now he's dealing with a little hangover to boot. But he is going to try.

He's bundled up against the cold and packing together a ball of snow, looking about the grounds. Struggling to keep up his familiar is having to hop from one of Cehd'ra's footprints to the next, the Foper's tiny legs and feet not exactly suited for snow of any meaningful depth. ]

Mph...

[ He's gone over every combination of mudra he can think of, hands forming the sharp gestures in rapid succession, but getting nothing out of it. Not even a rabbit medium to shame him for botching them. He looks over his shoulder and down. ]

You're meant t'help me with this, are y'not?

[ The familiar says nothing, craning their eye up at Cehd'ra. After a beat it tilts to one side, wavering on one leg before correcting themselves with another hop. ]

Can y'even talk?

[ Again, silence. The familiar instead puffs themselves up and slowly deflates, the exaggerated breaths falling into a pace Cehd'ra is surprised to find he recognizes. ]

Meditate. Right.

[ One deep inhale, slow, held for a single heartbeat and then released, a cloud of white billowing from Cehd'ra's lips. It takes time and even then, Cehd'ra doesn't really feel anything happening. A sense of calm settles into his chest and limbs as it's meant to, the miqo'te deliberately brushing aside each distracting thought that pops into his head, but he doesn't notice when they begin to travel further than that. Stray thoughts drift towards the minds of nearby trainees, fragmented and foreign. A city bathed in neon light or a white rabbit wearing a blue cloak and pointed hat...?

It could prove distracting. Or one might notice Cehd'ra simply standing there with his eyes closed and decide he's making for an easy target. ]

The Darkness in the White Cliffs

[ What sort of gift does one get for a cliff? It doesn't eat so food wouldn't do, nor would clothes or tools. The latter may even be insulting, not that Cehd'ra has the money for it to begin with. But he could just imagine the offense a stony cliff face would take at being presented with a chisel or hammer... ]

Here, d'you think this'd work?

[ Cehd'ra nudges a nearby new arrival with his elbow, presenting them with an abandoned yet sturdy bird's nest. ]

'Was thinking the Cliff Beast might appreciate the song if some birds use it come spring.

[ ...he's probably over thought it... ]

Trial and Icy Errors

[ An easy target, indeed. Zenos might have overlooked the slight Miqo'te man and sought a target that promised to offer a greater physical challenge, but he'd found the oddest of intrusions creeping into his thoughts. And, being no stranger to having his thoughts intruded upon, he takes it in stride, resolves to find the source, and... well...

Cehd'ra will find a snowball being thrown dead on at his head very, very hard. This is a battlefield, in the most technical of senses, and Zenos intends to treat it as such. No quarter, no mercy. And perhaps he'll provoke the fellow with visions of sparkling cities and failed mudras in his head into doing something interesting. ]

A - Soaking in Your Arrival

[ It was fortunate that the sudden shifting of location struck Zenos while he was relatively lightly armored. No amount of warmth-granting potion nor helpful bobbing turtles would have been enough to keep him from plummeting like a stone, had he been properly garbed for battle. But he was not, and so the swim to shore is an easy enough thing, easy enough that by the time he reaches the shallows his mind is already turning over the possibilities as to what was happening.

If all of that possibility-pondering leaves his gaze distant and leaves him caught in his own head for the moment, so be it. He rises to his feet with an easy motion, sodden long blond hair hanging forward over his face. Another easy motion and he is sweeping it up and wringing it out, then tossing it it over his shoulder. His next motion, just as easy as the rest, is to square his broad shoulders and cast his eyes out upon the shoreline... and then he gives a sudden start, surprised to find that the silvery sea dragon that had been trailing him all this while seemed insistent on following him out of the water.

Hm. That's troublesome. Unthinkingly, he motions as though reaching to draw a sword, and startles awkwardly when he finds no blade at his hip.

That's enough of an opening for the serpent, it seems. It lunges in and bites Zenos's grasping hand, setting him roaring and recoiling backwards, snapping his arm back powerfully in an effort to shake the beast loose. Perhaps someone should intervene? But surely a 7-fulm-something paragon of power like him can handle one little sea serpent familiar. ]

B - Trial and Icy Errors

[ A snowball fight holds little inherent appeal to Zenos. What use is there in a mockery of a 'fight' with no clear victor? No true violence, no stakes? But the invitation also included the exhortation to come and test new powers... and that, he must admit, is worth making the time for. Testing his new limits in a situation with much lower stakes seems... wise, if dull.

So there he stands in the midst of it, his serpentine familiar Ginryu (who he has since worked out his differences with to the point of even granting the clever beast a name) wrapped protectively around a basket of snowballs, the pair sizing up the situation. He has ever been a man inclined to rely upon his own physical strength, but he has ever been adaptable as well... and he is determined to not let his loss of his Resonant powers be any sort of hinderance. For it has given him an inkling of how to begin tapping in to whatever new gifts this place has seen fit to grant him. He inhales, exhales, reaches purposely for a snowball and plucks one from the basket... and finds that three others lift up in tandem. ]

...hmm.

[ Best to make the most of that. A quick glance to the side to sight a target, and then abruptly he is whipping that one clutched snowball at them with force enough to sting painfully upon impact. And it is followed shortly after by those three others, traveling at similar speed with similar strength.

He is not smiling, now, but there's a hint of interest in his gaze now, at least. It is just as important to gauge the skills of others as it is to test his own limits. ]

B. I'm sorry

[Tamaki is still waffling over the need to participate in something that very clearly is meant to turn into a disaster, so much so that he doesn't realize he's the target of a 4 fold attack. The first snowball pegs him squarely in the back of the head and he yelps, stumbling forward and dropping his bucket of snowballs.

The next three, however, are blocked by his upper arm one after the other, instinctively. The impact stings of course, and his clothes are getting soaked but at least he's spared himself from getting pegged in the face FOUR times versus just one.

It isn't until he's sure there are no more snowballs headed his way that he peeks out from around his arm, face screwed tightly into a grimace.]

You're throwing those really hard, you know...!

[This guy is intimidating by sheer presence, what the heck.]

Alice Liddell | Alice in Wonderland

I. Arrival

[When Alice finally makes it onto the bank with the help of the ice turtles, she's shaking like a leaf. People don't do well in freezing cold water at the best of times, seven-year-olds even less so. Her teeth are chattering as she's trying to figure out what just happened.

One moment she was checkmating the red queen, the next, well...

She hugged her arms around herself, trying to get warm. Even a caucus race sounded good right now, even if she'd be no drier for it. She watched as the little turtles dropped off a red and white queen chess piece and she bent down to pick them up.]

O-O-Oh d-d-dear... [Her teeth interrupted her speech. Was she even in the Looking Glass anymore? After putting the two pieces into her pinafore pocket, and drenched to the bone, she walked over to the nearest person.]

I-I-I-I b-b-b.... [She tried again, opting for a short word.] E-E-e-excuse m-m-me... d-d-d-do you know... w-w-where in the L-L-L-Looking G-G-Glass w-w-w-we are?

[Maybe she should get dry before she attempts further conversation.]

II. The Inn

[Alice had never been to an inn before. When she had been shown to her room, she couldn't help but wonder at the strange devices in it. Immediately, she made her way to test and push and press well... everything.

She's left the door wide open, currently, she's playing with the door of the microwave, watching the light come on when she opens it and then disappearing upon closing.]

Now how do you suppose... [She looks all around the box, trying to see where the light could be hidden. When she hears someone pass outside her open door, the little blonde runs over to them.]

You simply must see this incredible invention!

[Without hesitating, she grabs their hand to try and bring them inside to show them...

Well, the microwave.]

III. Trial and Ice

[Properly outfitted with winter clothing, Alice is going to practice the new magic she apparently has. For the moment, she's concentrating on just having the little snowball HOVER.

It's going surprisingly well.]

I got it!

[Yes, yes she does. She bounces on the balls of her feet in excitement and then bites her lip as the snowball keeps going higher and higher and higher and higher.]

Ah- oh no... no no come down!

[That... might have been the wrong thing to say or want. Because the snowball DOES come down... and promptly splats atop someone else's head to run down their back.]

Soaking in Your Arrival
The cold registers like a wall of shrapnel biting into Walter’s skin, forcing him to gasp reflexively. He jerks, thrashing in the water as he forces his limbs to move through the shock. He’s barely managed to wrangle them under some semblance of control when a woman emerges from beneath the water. Her movements are much cleaner — no sign of the cold affecting how she swims — and he has little time to react when she presses a vial of something against his lips. “What are you—?!”

His sentence is cut off as the fluid hits his throat. Having been strangled to the verge of unconsciousness hardly a minute or two before hitting the water, it stings uncomfortably. His abused throat rebels, and he coughs, nearly choking on the liquid before some of it manages to make its way down.

She’s gone almost as quickly as she came, off towards someone else who’s just hit the water.

Scowling, he swiftly makes his way to the shore, a far better position to take stock of the situation from. Maybe then he can figure out just what the hell is going on here.

The Caravan to Camelot
They’re being gathered atop the cliffs — White Cliffs that are definitely not of Dover. Dover was by the sea, and there’s no salt scent lingering in the air or in his clothes from his inopportune dip in the decidedly freshwater lake.

There’s already a creeping sense of wrongness about this situation beyond his being plucked from where he was and brought to where he now is. They’re a decidedly mixed lot, and items are being handed out to the lot of them in streamlined fashion, as though they were accustomed to the process.

They look like a group of evacuees. Like the poor bastards brought to shore when the Nazis closed in on Dunkirk, arriving at none other than Dover.

The parallel is surreal, and it grates.

Cloak pulled about his shoulders and fastened close to his neck, Walter stares down at the smartphone in his hand with a scrutinizing look, a cord and a pair of miniature earphones trailing from the device.

“What is this? A hearing aid?” It certainly bears some resemblance to some of the models that cropped up with the advent of electricity and the telephone. But why does it have a screen like a tiny, tiny version of a rich man’s television set?

The Red Spring
Walter is quick to leave the room once they’re settled in at the Red Spring. “Room’s yours for the night. I’ll be quiet coming back in.” That’s all the warning he gives. He doesn’t feel like socializing right now. Instead, he makes his way to the training grounds. Might as well get on with it, he figures. The training won’t be nearly enough to vent his frustrations, but it’s better than nothing.

He’s followed by a Black Dog, an abnormally large spectral hound with lengthy black hair, it trailing behind him like a quiet shadow.

He spends most of his time at the targets and obstacle course, deliberately pushing himself even after the instructors call it a night.

It’s half-past one when he decides to make a quick trip to the shower in his quarters to clean up, slinking off to the spring to soak for a bit alone. He only sticks his feet in, the legs on his pants rolled up as far as they will go — a little ways up his shin, with how tightly they fit — as he’s not inclined to strip down in the open air of a populated area, even if most people in the area seem to be asleep.

Quest: Fogueria
Walter is a night owl by habit; what with his role in the Order of Royal Protestant Knights in tracking down and dispatching supernatural threats, he’s grown accustomed to keeping those dusk to dawn hours, give a few for other assorted household tasks. Consequentially, it’s only natural that he gravitates towards the one quest that deals with a nightly problem, even if it is only a band of irresponsible travellers.

He makes out for the plains south of the Red Spring, ambling casual with a great, shaggy-maned Black Dog ambling at his side, its eyes aglow like fire in the darkness. Sometimes he pulls ahead, impatient in his stride, and lacking in cohesion with his newfound familiar.

After a few hours, he spots it; a light in the distance, casting a flame-lit glow over a corner of the fields. A growl rumbles from his familiar’s throat, tension creeping into its form. The smell of burning grasses hit his nostrils.

The pair shift into a predatory stride, stalking closer, closer, until the sight becomes clear. And what an interesting little surprise it is, to find out a quest asking for help with disciplining partiers turns out not to have anything to do with partiers at all.

Crouching in the grass, he pulls the smartphone from his waistcoat, turning it on. It’s a good thing he spent a while pestering Camelot Support for details on how to operate it.

So it is that sometime in the middle of the night that the boyish voice not yet turned deep by the breaking that comes with adolescence sounds over the network.

“So… that little quest on the board about revellers setting fires at night? It’s not revellers.”

He doesn’t sound particularly frightened or disturbed about the revelation, but more something between amused and put-out. He doesn’t have the proper equipment on him for dealing with a fire-based fiend on his own. Partiers? Yes. Fire-beast? No.

“They really should do something about the quality of their intel. So, are any of you elemental magic types comfortable with earth or water spells yet? This thing is bound to be jumping about a bit.”

Though he supposes kinetic magic could be applied to turn the earth… There would be more collateral damage, but options are options.

The Darkness in the White Cliffs
It is late in the evening when he comes to inspect the site along the White Cliffs, having spent much of the late afternoon and early evening honing his skills. He’s a hard worker, even if he is unorthodox in his hours.

Unfortunately, even with a gift, it seems that the Cliff Beast won’t let him in on his own. It due to the danger, or so he’s told, and his insistence that he is perfectly capable of handling himself goes precisely nowhere. As such, he’s left at the cliff’s entrance wondering if the whole thing isn’t a waste of time. He could have been training.

Though… he supposes he can still train while he ponders whether or not to stay and see if there isn’t one other person in the whole lot of them that doesn’t mind doing tasks in the dark.

He tries for a simple thing; floating the large, pale mussel shell over his outstretched palm, his hand loosely open to prevent said shell from breaking if his concentration slips. It wobbles a little — first high, then low, as though bouncing — before he manages to hold it at a steady level.

It’s not the best way to pass the time, but it’s something.

White Cliffs

If it had been left to him, Emet-Selch wouldn't have bothered to volunteer to help bring a cup of water to the Red Spring. But, as ever, he'd been roped into it by better, more generous people. For now he seems to have parted from them - or rather, whoever he came with has run off and left him to stare tiredly at the white cliff face. After a few moments, he casts a bored look around those who are preparing to head inside and spots a young boy attempting to levitate a small mussel.

Out of idle curiosity, he sidles closer. He easily towers over them.

"Aren't you going to offer that to the cliff beast?"

A: Arrival: Cat-Astrophic Caravanning

"MMMAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOUUUUU!"

"Sssh, sssh, come on darling, I know you're wet--"

"MMMAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOUUUUU!!!"

"I'm trying to help, if you could just stop squirmi--"

"MMMAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOUUUUU!!!"

The source of this ungodly racket appears to be an oddly-dressed gray feline in the arms of an absolutely mortified hyur. "Sorry, sorry..." he murmurs, red-faced under the stares of passersby as he tries to comfort his wailing bundle of...joy? Sure, we'll go with that. "'Twould seem the poor thing's had a bit of a fright, eh?"

B: Arrival: Putting a (Hot) Spring in Your Step

Ah, now this is more like it. As many and varied as the comforts of Duplicity were, none of them could match the experience of a natural hot spring. He strips down to his smallclothes with unhurried leisure, savoring the steamy air against his scar-coveredskin. Finally he slips into the water with a contented sigh, closing his eyes and leaning back as the heat soothes away the cold and the stiffness of old joints.

He cracks an eye open at the sound of approaching footsteps. "Don't mind me," he says cheerfully. "Plenty of room for everyone, aye?"

C: SNOWED IN AND TELL

"Hello? Excuse me?"

The extremely muffled voice appears to be coming from a lovely rainbow crystal standing proudly on one side of the battlefield. Or rather, it's coming from the man who has managed to trap himself inside it...somehow. "My shield spell went a bit...wrong," he explains. "I can't break it from this side..." He strikes the wall of his prison as well as he can given the extremely cramped quarters, and succeeds only in making a lovely musical chime. "But mayhap it can be broken from the outside?"

D: DRIVEN BATTY IN THE DARK

The journey through the pitch black caves has gone surprisingly well so far. Jophrey's familiar could see where human eyes couldn't, and while the gaelicat doesn't know much about navigating mazes, spotting dead ends and unstable hallways proves an easy task.

The mage was never the sort to trust a run of good luck, so the sound of his companion's warning hiss comes almost as a relief. This is much more familiar territory. "I'll summon a light," he whispers, and a moment later a weak, flickering glow springs to life in his palm. Not much, but in this pure darkness it's more than enough to illuminate the passages before and behind.

And they are full of eyes.

"Oh bugger."

Not being the incredibly social sort, Walter isn't actively participating in the wintery fun. However, it has woken him up, and given it seems to be showing no signs of slowing... well, might as well start his day.

It's in the process of circling the flank of the 'battlefield' that he passes near the large crystal. He almost keeps going, but the muffled sounds are just audible enough for him to recognize as human speech, and he pauses in his tracks.

The chime that sounds as the ice crystal is struck from the inside gets him to saunter over.

"Got yourself stuck, did you?"

Soaking:

[ In the naval battle that day, Gu Yun’s main ship was hit by the enemy, the golden ziliujun box disintegrated and exploded. Though deaf and blind, he had had some inkling that something was not right, and instructed his crew to abandon ship just prior. But even in the water, the explosion had the ability to burn skin and crush bones. He braced for the impact and sudden release of death, satisfied that despite this catastrophe, the war was won. He had but one regret in mind. He can’t help imagining the result of the letter he’d asked Ji Ping to send along.

Life and death cannot be forced. ]

Mmmf!

[ Except, for some reason, death never comes. His head breaks above the waves, his unexploded, uninjured limbs furiously treading water. A blurry figure appears in front of him, tipping a vial of something into his mouth. He coughs and shudders as magical warmth spreads through his body.

He senses immediately that there are other people in the water. He naturally can’t see who they are, but he imagines they must be his men. He takes hold of the arm of one of them and says crisply: ]

Soldier! Report!

Arrival:

[ He’s at the water’s edge, dripping water, kneeling down from exhaustion while being nosed by some kind of animal. ]

Hmm?

[ Gu Yun finally responds to the creature, lifting a hand to pat it, thinking perhaps it’s some kind of dog. He’s surprised to find scales beneath his fingers. ]

What kind of fish are you?

[ A fish, with the head of a dragon, antlers of a deer, skin and scales of a fish, hooves of an ox, tail of a lion… and great big googly eyes. Magical flames rise from its body, emitting gentle heat without burning anything.

This “fish” (actually a qilin) doesn’t seem to like being identified as such, and resorts to licking. ]

Hey, hey, hey! Hahahaha! That’s enough!

Icy Errors:

[ A man in indigo cross-collared robes, a single layer despite the cold, is standing poised with a snowball under the heel of his boot. He lifts a hand to adjust the monocle covering his right eye.

Instead of fighting, Gu Yun is working on his kinetic magic playing fetch with his qilin. The mystical creature that guards the gates of heaven, steed of one of the eight immortals, is currently bounding around like a giant puppy, happily catching snowballs and laying them gently at the feet of its master.

Sadly, the qilin’s fiery nature coats each multicolored snowball with a layer of ice, so Gu Yun has to step on each one that returns, lest such an ice ball injure a passer-by. The creature doesn’t understand, tilting his head and whining slightly, when each one it returns seems not to be passing muster. Gu Yun, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, finally relents, lifting his foot and picking the icy projectile back up, petting the qilin's head. Then sends the iceball out with a flick of his fingers, the thing zooming through the air in a beautiful arc as it trails magical sparkles—before taking a sudden zig-zag turn, heading straight for you. ]

Hey! Watch out!

[ The good news is, the iceball probably won’t hit. The bad news is, that’s because a big qilin has blocked in front, and if it’s bowled you over, that wasn’t its intent! ]

Darkness:

This way. Watch your head, the ceiling’s a little low here.

[ Gu Yun’s voice is gentle and self-assured, as if ending up in a magical land at the the end of the universe and navigating through a pitch-black cave is something he does every day. This is, of course, just his way: to act as if the sky, if it fell, would be no more than a soft blanket.

Abruptly he hesitates; then suddenly presses down on his companion’s head, murmuring softly: ]

Duck.

[ He’d felt a breath of wind from above; and what can create wind from above? Bats. ]

Greed:

[ Gu Yun, for his part, seems strangely unimpressed by the golden grotto, sparing neither a glance for the jewels nor the altar, instead reaching inside his robes for something, finally hauling out a small circle of glass. If, by chance, you hand him a cup to hold, before he’s managed to clip the thing to his nose… ]

Um… thanks!

[ ….and he’ll even start to bring it to his lips, before suddenly remembering: ]

Wait, is this—?

[ Is this the thing they’re supposed to be looking for? ]

[ Giddy from the contents of Asrai's cup, further enhanced by the free drinks offered, Gu Yun settles into the hot spring, the waters soothing injuries old and new. Eyelids drooping, he murmurs: ]

Is this even a war that can be won?

[ Saving a universe frozen in time, through magic learnt by neophytes? If you wish to converse with him about this, it might be necessary to get closer than five feet away; much closer, in fact. Alas, the hot spring fogs up his monocle, so he's set it aside. ]

[ Emerald doesn't particularly care about whether she's in the spring with men or women or what have you. It's not like she bothered undressing, she's in a pair of shorts she 'borrowed' from someone's clothing line and the same tube top she always wears. She has no idea how people are relaxing so easily, but judging by the words the guy sat in the water a couple yards from her is speaking, she's not the only one feeling more than a little anxious. ]

It either is or we all die.
