QUESTION FOR A QUESTION MEME

We all like hearing about each other's characters! We all like talking about our own characters! With this groundbreaking new meme, now you can finally do both, for the very first time in DWRP history!

The Guidelines:

• Post a toplevel listing the characters you play! If you have any boundaries you want to set re: questions you might receive (e.g. "No NSFW questions for this character"), do that here too.
  
• Tag other people asking them questions about their characters. What kinds of questions? Up to you! Canon questions, headcanon questions, meta questions, some random thing you've wondered since that thread you had two months ago, it's all fair game.

OH MAN HERE COMES MY NOVEL.

I think, when Izumi was a kid, due to Yukio being away frequently and his family not living in Tokyo, mum was kind of... the mean parent. I.E. The one who actually had to parent. And I think that always informed her relationships with her parents a lot - I think she was close with both of them, but dad got to be idealised in a way mum couldn't be. On the flip side, mum knows way more about Izumi on an intimate level than Yukio does.

What really impacted their relationship, however, is... well. The acting. Yukio's disappearance. In Izumi's eyes, mum gave up looking for him and probably quite quickly (for spoiler reasons), and I think while Izumi can probably rationalise that as mum coping in the only way she knows how, she never fully understands why her mum took that path.* I think, due to the way she idealises her father, she found it easier to consider that a fault of her mother rather than her father's flaws. And I think that created a distance between the two that wasn't there before. They still love each other fiercely, but Izumi coped by stubbornly believing in her dad and seeing her mum take the complete opposite approach would really upset her.

And, the other half of it is Izumi following her dad into the theatre industry. I think her mum's feelings on this would be complicated, because even without the [spoilers] regarding Yukio's disappearance, I feel like even the most patient and understanding of wives would find their virtues tested by Yukio's all consuming passion for theatre. I can't imagine being primary caretaker for a child while your husband follows his directorial dreams is something that goes without a little friction and resentment. (I mean, I get salty when I have to do both dishes and dinner, the woman would have to have the patience of a saint to essentially be 90-95% single mum while her husband waltzed around in Tokyo). So I don't think mum was ever thrilled with the fact that Izumi decided she wanted to be an actor - it would have been one of those things where it was acceptable when it was a side gig, a hobby, but when she decided to throw herself fully into it, mum was probably holding in a lot of not another one feelings. But she wants Izumi to be happy, and she sees that same light in her eyes (or, after Izumi takes over as Mankai director, hears it in her voice during phone calls) she saw with Yukio, and I think she has trouble saying no to that. (I also think it was probably one of the first things about Yukio that attracted mum to him, and while she continued to be fond of that passion, the negatives of it became much clearer the longer they were together.)

*And while I know Liber will probably never give me the Complex Feelings Of It All arc I desire for Izumi post-spoiler reveals, GOD I want it. You cannot tell me that girl finds out her mum knew that dad was fine the whole time and hid it from her and just goes "oh ok I get why, that's cool!". Just. No. Let her be conflicted about it all, dammit!
