QUESTION FOR A QUESTION MEME

We all like hearing about each other's characters! We all like talking about our own characters! With this groundbreaking new meme, now you can finally do both, for the very first time in DWRP history!
The Guidelines:
Now get to askin'!
The Guidelines:
- Post a toplevel listing the characters you play! If you have any boundaries you want to set re: questions you might receive (e.g. "No NSFW questions for this character"), do that here too.
- Tag other people asking them questions about their characters. What kinds of questions? Up to you! Canon questions, headcanon questions, meta questions, some random thing you've wondered since that thread you had two months ago, it's all fair game.
- Need ideas? I was passed this excellent gallery of various questions memes, so feel free to crib from these or just use them as inspiration.
- Answer the questions you receive, and, once you've done that, hit the person back with a question of your own about their character(s) too!
- You can end it there, or continue to go back and forth asking questions until you're out.
Now get to askin'!

She'd also be very good at keeping said secret. Maybe not so good at keeping the fact that there is a secret she's keeping, since she's not very good at lying or hiding things. But she wouldn't tell, even if someone asked her directly (and in which case, her "No" would be much more combative for having someone trying to pry that information from her).
The only exception to that is if she thinks she's helping someone by sharing the secret--like if it's the sort of secret that she thinks someone she cares about might get hurt by keeping. Then she might tell someone that she trusts.
One for Kate now: Who is the person she respects most, and why?
no subject
Kate... UH at this point, probably her best friend, Jay. They have a lot of differences of opinion but he's always been very good at putting his points across in a level headed and respectful manner. She respects his skills at dealing with people mostly, but also just the amount of work he puts in to everything he does. (When she gets further into the story, this answer changes but I am not updating her that far in, I don't think. But she does respect the balls it takes for Faith to eventually blow the whistle on her bosses).
OKAY next one: has Klaudia ever broken up with anyone? How'd that go?
no subject
Haha... Klaudia has never broken up with anyone. Because she's never been in a relationship, presently never wants to be in a relationship, and thinks that all relationships are inherently doomed to either fail or fade.
She's never had a good role model on what a healthy relationship looks like. Her father was an affair that her mother wasn't careful with, and he left town before either of them knew she was carrying a child. And the man that her mother is actually married to is distant with Klaudia's mother and doesn't make it any secret that he dislikes Klaudia's existence. Her mother has flings pretty regularly with whoever strikes her fancy, and so long as she's quiet about it, he tolerates it because it keeps the peace. There's basically no love in that relationship anymore; it's purely for convenience and appearance.
On top of all that, Klaudia's heard a lot of closed-door gossip about various scandals in other noble houses, romantic ones included. She's so used to the idea that people just cheat on each other or fall out of love that it's become the norm in her world view. The only Good relationships she's ever known were in storybooks, so "love" as a good concept that people care about and invest in (not even "true love", just "love") is regulated to fiction only.
tldr; Romance bad. Girl has issues.
Another for Kate! What does she miss most about being a kid?
no subject
OH GOD everything? She was happy, she was innocent, her parents were alive, she had hope for her career as an athlete... She definitely idealises her childhood but there is also such a sharp change between who she was before and after that I can't blame her.
moral of the story: get traumatised teenagers into therapy pls. What's the most memorable compliment Klaudia's received?
no subject
God, any compliment is memorable for Klaudia because she's embarrassingly clingy with any scrap of praise that someone gives her. But most memorable... Probably in-game, when Lan Wangji was complimenting her work ethic and artisanal skills. He told her "It takes polishing for jade to become a gem.", so she jokingly asked "Am I not already a gem?". And he responded: "A gem whose brilliance will only increase with time and effort invested." That one just took her out wholesale, she didn't even know how to process it. It was a joke! And he gave her point blank sincerity! Awful.
She really likes her skills being complimented because she works hard on those. She doesn't know what to do with compliments about her appearance or her personality, since she can't do much about the former and she doesn't think the latter is very good.
For Kate: When was the time she was the most frightened?
CW: grooming, underage drinking, drug use, assault
SCREAMS okay here's the CW portion of her life lmao. Cue me trying to find a way to phrase this that doesn't overdo it nor undersell it.
After her parents' deaths, Kate fell into bad habits. Which unfortunately included getting involved with an older man who would buy booze and drugs for her and the friends she was hanging out with. He eventually bought bootleg versions of a new drug called Hepatestryl, which gives people powers. Now, being that he didn't know whether he was getting ripped off, he decided she should be the one to try out the first pill so if anything went wrong, he wouldn't be the one to suffer any side effects. She refused and he eventually forced her to swallow it.
She ghosted him (and the people she was hanging out with) immediately after this but it is basically her deepest buried trauma... when it's easier to talk about war and how your parents' murders were never solved /laughs nervously. TBH I don't know if she'll ever talk about it, given that she never explicitly told her brother about it, but she at least needs to acknowledge it for herself at some point.
For added, post-event horror, she eventually learned that bootleg Hepatestryl has the side effect of turning some people to stone and hates her power because it's pure sensory overload (':. She has no idea whether he knew about those side effects or not but it doesn't matter at the end of the day bc he was a creep.
OKAY LET'S TALK ABOUT SOMETHING NICE. What does Klaudia consider cute?
no subject
As for cute things...
Herself.Small things are cute. Tiny objects, tiny foods, miniature figurines, etc. She makes a lot of clockwork creatures that she thinks are adorable. Actual creatures, not as much though, unless they're super docile like her pet chicken. As for cute people... Really polite kids are adorable. Generally anyone smaller than her, especially if she can dress them up to be fancy. She doesn't have a maternal instinct to speak of (yet?), but she can have a little bit of an older sister vibe with anyone smaller or younger than her, if she likes them.
Since I hit you with a rough one last time, here is something nicer: What makes Kate laugh?
no subject
but aaaaa, Klaudia playing dress up with kids. TT_TT I would like to see it.
Answer: any sort of funny but relatively harmless injury
like when she accidentally sent a book flying into Rei's face. Really terrible jokes. The kinds of things that make you unsure whether you should facepalm or laugh.Tell me more about the pet chicken!!
no subject
The pirate ship she lived on had acquired six chickens of various breeds, and a duck. They're partly for eggs and partly as pets, and the whole crew loved them. They also kept a plaque outside the cabin where the chickens stayed, which was used to keep track of who the Good and Bad chickens of the week were. The duck was usually the bad chicken, unless one of the chickens acted out a lot.
One of the chickens (Peppercorn; mostly orange with blotches of black and white) came with Klaudia to Avalon, so she's been keeping it in her inn room. She's been considering loaning it out to people as a comfort chicken--just something soft and docile to pet and feed and generally enjoy the company of.
For Kate: Is Kate more optimistic or pessimistic?
no subject
I don't think this will be surprising, but definitely pessimistic. She's also one of those annoying types that considers her pessimism "realism". She'll get there, eventually, she just really needs to remember that connecting with people isn't always terrible.
Is there anything Klaudia splurges on? Or any dream purchase she has in mind?
no subject
Klaudia splurges on materials for whatever she feels like making. She doesn't have any huge dream purchases--mostly she just likes making really fancy outfits, so quality fabrics for tailoring and metals for accessories are essential. She's the kind of purchase that walks into a fabric store and excitedly touches everything before buying half the stock. It's really dangerous shopping with her because she has no impulse control.
What made Kate decide to dye her hair pink? Or is that her natural color?
no subject
Very much dyed, yes! She first dyed it in her teenage years and really liked how it looked, but school and then the military were like "uh no you can't have pink hair". So the second she was offered a job outside of the military, she told them that she wanted to have pink hair and they agreed because (as much as she hates it) her power is really handy for hunting down monsters with powers and just rare enough to make for leverage in this instance.
When we say "fancy outfits", what are we talking about? What kind of garments does she make?
