Monthly CR & Plotting Meme

It's that time again already! It's time for our current players to plot for the month ahead, get some new CR and chat together about things to come. Go ahead and copy/paste the form below. Or don't. We aren't your parents, we can only make really good suggestions. (Unless...? Nah.)

Put your name/handle in the subject line!

Don't worry about it! I'm loving this thread, and the CR. I do feel a little bad that it's a story about how mean Voltron canon is to her.

... she actually has a few of those. Maybe someday she can tell Monika about how she was forced to delete the digital backup of her father's personality... her late father, essentially losing him for good...

But yes! She'll love having a new friend who wants to collab! Actually, I headcanon that Allura's civilization has gone all digital and she sort of has some trouble with the paper medium, so it would also be interesting to give her a reason to try them more and get more comfortable with the format.

Monika has already the title of their collab "Princess from the future sees BOOK for the first time? (not clickbait)". And the story of her father's deletion wouldn't sound familiar or anything to her I'm sure, nope, not at all.

That said I'm canon blind and starting to wonder if those Lions aren't just mean-spirited or something...

Just try to explain how the Dewey Decimal System works, watch her weep as she wishes she had her computer searches back

Yeah, ngl, I tagged Monika because I thought there might be a little relatable moments to build CR over... and the more I tag her, the more it occurs to me that there might be way more than just a little.

it's not the lions. it's the writers. the whole plot has a lot of painful moments for her, right up to the ending nobody liked. it's supposed to show her resilience and how much she's willing to sacrifice to help others, but at some point it just feels like they're just milking her for tragedy points.

... ngl, I view RP as a fix-it fanfic opportunity.

Deleting digital persona is very much relatable hopefully that won't hit her too hard

Gah, why can't show ever end well.

Tbh I'm kinda the same with DDLC+ additions to the lore, I have pretty mixed feelings about them, it's like creators can't help themselves.

We'll just have to set up some scenario where it all comes up and the two can cry it out.

Also... stepping out of small text because I actually have a lot of thoughts and feelings about this??

Because I get it, not everyone can get a happy ending, especially not in genres like ours. Space war has casualties, psychological horror has fates even worse than death. But the more time the narrative spends with the character, the more you want to see them grow and succeed... and the more regressive it feels when they still fall in the suffering hole late in the narrative.

But gotta get those serious drama points from somewhere, right?? There's no room in the narrative for overcoming your problems and deciding your own destiny, because true, uncomplicated happiness is kiddie garbage! And it had better be a female character, because otherwise those gut punches won't land!!

... so yeah, I have some salt.

It sucks, doesn't it? "Golden Endings" are considered poor writing or some ridiculous thing like that nowadays. Unless you throw in some measure of misery and pain in your ending, it's childish and means nothing. Gotta be dark to prove your work is mature or something like that. I watched some videos recently, I guess it's the "Superman Syndrome." Happy doesn't seem mature, you gotta make it dark and gritty even if it doesn't make sense.

Le sighs.

And like you said. It's always, always the same characters who get thrown under the train to gain cheap emotional points. I mean, in DDLC's case I accept it (though I still think the new lore is kinda meh). And I'm not familiar with Voltron besides what I've seen of it in RP and from reviewing app, but I feel like the canon is deep enough it doesn't need a downer ending for its characters.

Your salt is totally justified.
