Darn is... an uncultured ass. But even the dirtiest jewel can be polished to perfection - that's her view on him. Sure, they got off to a rocky start, but to be quite fair, she often gets off to a rocky start A LOT with people. She has issues about snobbery and being right, and she's fully aware of it and trying to improve herself - so having someone Darin call her out on it is something she needs. She just won't tell him. But she does know he's a good fellow, and someone she can rely on.

Learning his issues while he was in the stocks was certainly a shock, but she's not going to discuss it openly with him since it was probably meant to be private and all that - and knowing how much he suffered under Caster's hand hit her hard (especially since she considers Caster a good friend!) so she is trying to be nicer to him, considering the circumstances... but again. Trying is the operative word here.

So all in all, she does like him, and would like to get to know him better... Alas, fate (me) keeps putting them in awful (hilarious) circumstances, so such chances tend to get ruined before they can get started.

Listen, Maribelle likes him and SHE HATES THAT SHE LIKES HIM. It's thanks to him, and a few others, that she was able to reconcile with a dear friend. So how can a man who has talented swordplay and occasionally good manners STILL BE SUCH AN ASSHOLE?! It's not fair! She both wants to help him become a proper gentleman and yet stop associating with him. He's a really good ally, and she knows she can rely on him when the chips are down, but goddamn he deserves a good smack upside the head once a day at least.

Awww!! This is really cute, honestly. Poor Maribelle, it has to be so frustrating! Seriously, why can't people be 100% gallant and mannerly or 100% vile and rotten?! But no, everything has to be complicated! Maybe one of these days she'll meet him drunk again; he tends to be a bit more pliable under the influence... but then she won't be impressed with him being drunk in the first place, so there's just no winning here!

Meanwhile he is surface-level whiny about her (Why is she so prissy??? What does she expect from him? Why does she have expectations to begin with??), but he sees and respects her resolve!! He'd for sure protect her in a serious situation, even if he'd probably curse or otherwise be a less-than-perfect knight in shining armour.
