Okay so, Asriel is one of the few people Chara actually gives a single crap about. This is why they took his words about Chara not being a good person so hard, that and they are well aware that they're *not* a good person. Which is something that Chara would like Asriel to realize and stick to it, instead of what's happening.
BUT, they also love him and really don't want to lose him either. Which is a nice little conflict for them that they're trying to get over, which isn't helped by Asriel being upset. And really, they want Asriel to be happy and they think that he'll be happier without them.
SO really their feelings are a big bundle of conflict on their side.
