i like how the basis of "you're similar to someone i know and care about" is the foundation of a lot of good cr and that works here, too.

just as Baiken is to Dimitri, so is Claude to Anji, kind of representing that same sort of charismatic positivity and desire to see her do and be better. She wishes she could ignore it, but part of her knows that people like Claude are what keeps her tied to her own humanity, what keeps her from becoming the actual mindless killer I-No predicted she'd become.

in canon, she's really only just at the point where she's starting to piece together a life of sorts that exists outside of her death march to revenge. whether it was fighting to protect her people in Revelator, or just fighting for the sake of others in general here in Avalon, something that Claude's helped her do, she's bit by bit coming around to letting the binds of her trauma stop holding her so fast to that path.

Claude has been central to that in Avalon. and who knows, he might actually get some of his affection returned someday in something besides knowing smiles and verbal jabs. but for the moment, he's way more important as someone who anchors her to her humanity than he is as a potential booty call.

bacon ;w; agreed, another reason their cr is so good is because one of the things Claude is good at in his canon relationships is opening peoples' minds to different possibilities, and teaching them the thoughts and assumptions they hold will only tie them down if they allow them to. so it's very apt here!

He's happy she's opening up bit by bit, and even if he acts like a total idiot who just wants to provoke her, he does deep down take that very seriously. In a way she kind of falls under the same duty of care he shows towards his own soldiers back home/the golden deer gang here, so he'll be very glad to to have helped her even a little.
