“I dunno what your problem is, it's just a little side project.”
“You're running the Barker Boys!”
“Yeah, well, all they needed were some hookers.”
“...”
“I mean motivation.”
Livewire didn't get to hear whatever spluttered, annoyingly overwrought response she was about to get from her actual partner in crime. It probably started with 'you can't just go around blah blah blah,' but that was neither here nor there, because she was suddenly falling, the chill, biting wind whistling in her ears until she crashed into the lake.
She gasped at the shock of icy cold, and coughed and gagged and flailed and generally didn't do an excellent job of swimming for a good few moments. It wasn't that she couldn't swim. It was more that she felt like there were hands pushing her down into the unbearable cold, and there was someone down there, Jesus, what was that?! The strange woman ignored Livewire's feeble attempt to swat her hand away and made quick work of administering the warming potion, leaving the villain to tread water and panic while she tended to the others.
Others? Holy crap, it was raining people. If she didn't want to get cannon balled by Murphey's Law, she'd need to get moving.
The Caravan to Camelot
She gave a low whistle when she saw Archimedes. Now, this might not be so bad. Alexis - not Livewire, apparently. That was going to cramp her style - didn't pay too much attention when he started to talk, being more interested in the smart phone. Yada yada Avalon, magic, destruction, brought here by a familiar- That briefly got her attention, and she glared daggers at the large white dog sitting happily beside her in the carriage. It flattened its ears and shrank away.
Oh well. As long as she was stuck in this cramped little pumpkin with a bunch of strangers, she'd make the most of it, and promptly helped herself to every single miniature liquor bottle she found in the pop-out mini-bar.
“Hey,” she addressed someone across from her. “This thing play music?”
The Red Spring
“Now this is more like it!” Alexis had exclaimed upon entering the room she'd been given. She'd flopped on one of the beds, inspected the games, and flipped through some channels, lamenting that “well, it ain't got Skinemax, but- hey! Finding Dory! Heh. I love that stupid fish.”
After stealing the pillows off the other bed, grabbing the extra blanket, and visibly tilting the tv toward her side of the room, she left to explore the immediate area. Having spent most of her remembered life having a disagreeable relationship with water (up to and including today), she gave the spring a wide berth. It had already been explained that the powers she was used to having wouldn't work here, and she'd have to learn new ones. Still...she didn't want to test it. Even if someone was waving at her.
No, the training ground sounded more promising. Like the simulations she sometimes had to help develop and test back home. Well...like that, but with fewer computers. Alexis had no idea what sort of magic she had, and it was supposedly up to her to find out. So she started with the basics by just doing what she always did, only with more concentration and willpower: she tried to summon electricity. She probably looked a little stupid, standing still with her hands open in front of her as if she expected to be holding something. Any minute. Aaaannny minute, now.
Foot Races
Alexis would not ordinarily be at all interested in local bumpkin games, and she liked difficulty even less. But she did like staying sharp, and with some creative rationalizing, it sounded a little like a training course. Besides, maybe there was a prize! She could win this; she was great at running (away)!
What she hadn't counted on was the clumsiness (or shortness or easily distractedness, etc) of her partner.
“Ughh! RRHHH! Keep up, Cleetus!” She grabbed her poor racing partner's shirt and wrenched them along mercilessly. Maybe it'd be easier to carry them under one arm if they were small enough, simultaneously trying to blast anything that got in her way with electricity – or if that didn't work, her ray gun (which only got a shot off one in five or six times after getting dunked in the lake).
Sled Races
The sled race didn't go any better. She was stuck on bulldozing her way through, one hand slammed on the shield curled up from the front, and the other attacking obstacles with brute elemental force.
Occasionally, Alexis roared at her partner to keep feeding the sled while she used both hands to deal with whatever was in front of them.
Snow Chicken
As much as Alexis liked being on top (wink wink), this one all depended on the size and weight of her partner. Hopefully, they were bigger and stronger than her, so that she could blast their opponent to oblivion. At the same time, it's entirely possible that she gets stuck on the bottom, stumbling and cursing and maybe getting crushed under a larger partner, or just getting thrown off balance by their enthusiasm.
Brave of Soul
The inside of the cave was damp and quiet, and it felt like she was being watched. Obviously. Alexis looked around the cavern slowly before letting her eyes rest on one of her hands as it gave a feeble sputter and fizzled out. That was that. Useless. She tried to shake the feeling of building horror. Of course she was being watched, this was a test, wasn't it? The only problem was that what she feared most was being powerless. Well...that, and...
Suddenly, her hands were ablaze with bright, crackling power. It writhed up her arms like something alive and settled across her shoulders. She lifted one hand to inspect it in astonishment, back, front, back. A slow grin spread across her face, but before she could celebrate the return of her old, reliable, easy-to-control powers, she became aware of a faint trickling sound. She lowered her hand and frowned. The trickling became a churning which became a rushing.
Uh-oh.
There was a sudden little stream that she lifted her foot away from. When Alexis looked up from the wet floor, a seething plume of water was surging from the depths of the cave at her. From the outside of the cave, there was mostly just silence...until a shriek rang out and she came rocketing out of the cave.
Pure of Heart
Oh, she didn't like this one bit. Pure of heart, eh? Alexis frowned in thought. She watched as several people managed to cross on a seemingly invisible bridge. Without warning, she gave someone a hard shove into the rushing rapids. Whoops. Either they weren't pure of heart or there was something you needed to do. Or...
“Oh, I get it. Ha! I've seen Indiana Jones, this'll be a cinch. Leap of faith. Here we go.”
She didn't move.
“Heeeeere we go.”
She wiggled her fingers anxiously. Took a breath. And then a step.
And with a yelp, she crashed into the rapids.
Celliwig
If Alexis had managed to cross the bridge, she'd have been off like a shot and found nothing and probably gotten lost in a wasteland. As it was, she'd had to be fished out of the rushing waters, half drowned and looking like an angry rat on meth. She wasn't about to dart off anywhere, hadn't obtained a single crystal, and was shaking, hungry, ill-tempered wreck. All she wanted was dinner.
But even that seemed out to thwart her intentions.
“Th' hell is this?!” She thumped her elbows heavily on the table to cradle her aching head, glaring down at the weird little globs and sprigs on her plate.
“Look, can I just get a drink?”
Anything goes!
It's all up for grabs! Plot to rob a bank, chase her with a sword, invite yourself to dinner, whatever! :D
