Character Name: Toshirou Hijikata
Canon: Gintama
Info: Hijikata is the Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi, the shogunate's special police in a futuristic Edo that was conquered by aliens (collectively called Amanto). He's a pretty rough-and-tumble guy with a bad temper, but he'll stick up for what's right... usually. I have some more information about him here!

Magics & Familiar: Elemental & Death / Crow Tengu (Arashi)

Desired CR: Over the last half year Hijikata has really devoted himself to being a knight (and he now has Shoto as his squire)! He's still a little sad that the knights aren't more unified, but ever since the autumn equinox disaster his ghost patrol (called Yuureisengumi and blatantly modelled after the Shinsengumi) has been filling that need and keeping him incredibly busy. Its tensions with Camelot's criminals have been higher lately, so Hijikata may approach other death mages he knows to ask if they'd be interested in joining forces with him - and of course death mages he doesn't know (well) are invited to approach him if they're interested! But I'm also up for pretty much any other ideas that have nothing to do with knights or ghosts.

Known Plans: This year is kicking off excitingly!! On the TDM front he'll be happy about the Frosty Forest Camp - finally he has close neighbours in the Forest of the Felled! He'll want to fraternise with the other knights and maybe participate in the ingredient hunt and bake-off... he's still a bit butthurt about his immediate defeat in Celliwig's cooking competition last summer, but he wants that 'Thirst' spell (he mainly plans to use it to extract information from criminals). Since he's a combatant he's ideal for accompanying any squishier people on their ingredient search! Of course mishaps may occur.

If anyone would like to be his partner for They Grow up so Fast, let's do it!! Let's become egg parents! Hijikata will be a shitty father since he has virtually no domestic skills and will try to feed it mayonnaise, but he'll do his best, okay? When the time comes to release the little bears into the wild I'm waffling between the Camelot route (he'll tackle the fogueria with his water- and ice magic) and the Elphame route (the gashadokuro will scare the crap out of him, which may give someone else the chance to impress him!).

As far as the quests go I'm open for any, but will probably only make my own prompts for Gravestone-Faced (it's a dangerous monster and he's a knight, but also he feels kind of responsible since he participated in the attack on the banyan tree that was swallowing up the fae prison), Beta Testing (body swap plots are fun, and I'd love to actually swap some icons - his quest partner is free to take any of mine in any case!), Roast Pork (to prevent that gruesome grillfest, mind, even if it gets him in trouble with the dark web crowd again), and the Knight Quest (non-knights are welcome to join him and go kick some orc bandit ass)!

Other: A little known Hijikata fact: he tries to split his fringe on several occasions in Gintama, but it only starts staying in place once he hits 30+!

(It's too bad they couldn't meet earlier... they'd be friends, I'd think.) I'm the slowest, but their forest thread's wrapping soon, so he'd be eager to tag along with him. Likely for Gravestone-Faced, if you'll have him! Honestly, anywhere he's needed. I'd say he doesn't emote much, but everything's out to test that lately, so it shows here and there. He'll guard his sensei, though (and bring his new sword along).

He has a gift for him as well!

I wouldn't wish teenage Hijikata on Shoto; he was a violent little shit!! Perhaps they'd have been unnecessary rivals or something... but hell, at least they'd both have been angsty boys with family baggage.

I'm happy to backtag until the cows come home!! But yeah, we're making headway on last year's threads, and I'm always happy for new ones. Gravestone-Faced is a go for these two!! And aw Shoto, you shouldn't have... he's such a good squire already (well, in Hijikata's opinion he already was one before he really became one, simply for his eagerness to learn).

But it's more than appreciated, the patience! I forgot to ask earlier, but would Shoto know he's a squire? Hijikata's been "sensei", but I didn't want to assume he'd mentioned, or made it official ICly yet!

Or perhaps rivals-to-friends... I can see that! Perhaps one day there'll be a chance to age Hijikata down for a while.

Oh, good question... I sort of assumed that we were handwaving that, but if you'd like I'd be happy to start the thread with the squiring ceremony, or even with Hijikata asking Shoto to begin with! We could backdate that part and skip ahead to the quest later (I promise I'll fast-forward them through the journey this time!!). Or we could split it into two separate threads and play them either subsequently or simultaneously. I'm good with anything!

Sounds like all of Shoto's friendships... I hope there's the chance, though!

But I'm perfectly fine handwaving! As much as I'd love to thread out everything, I know my speed would slow things down, so I'll just say he smiled in earnest, and his gifting's out of loyalty now. He'll aim to support the Yuureisengumi however he's able! If he's learned of that too? He'll arrive quest-ready (he'll bring the gift, though)!

Alright, that works!! We can say that Hijikata already gave him some basic swordfighting lessons, even if they did that on the long trip back from the Lavaft Behind quest. I'll make a starter at the new quest location for Shoto! I hope to get my post up before the weekend.

Hijikata and Zuko honestly might hit it off too. I’d be curious to see how CR with them might go too.

I’ll be making quest posts with both boys probably tomorrow! They’re both doing ice fishing but for Alberto that’s closed to close CR for fishy reasons lol but imma throw in some other prompts there too, just on the fence rn. Keep an eye out. And of course we can always do a wildcard if you think of anything otherwise!

Also I regret to inform you my gay fish son be talkin shit about your dude on the network rn with other troubled children lmao. I’m sorry he is This Way… Hijikata was nice in the end and everything fuyfvgrtj so rude

Grand, I'll check those out!! I'm still getting my ducks in a row too, so let's see which scenario(s) end(s) up working out best.

Oh Alberto... deserved, though! This cop is a horrible role model and barely ever manages to dial himself back with children (his fellow Shinsengumi member Okita is a lot younger and they already were at each other's throat when they were like 18 and 9 respectively). Terrible.

Oh man Hijikata is really settling in here. I'd love to have Emet join the DEATH (MAGE) SQUAD! If his canon update gets approved he'll also be trying to do more knight-related quests.

I hope that nightmare thread isn't terribly boring incidentally. It's...a LOT of exposition normally but I promise I've been trying to leave room for Hijikata to do something. (If there was something you desired out of the thread then I can try and incorporate it!)

Support from Emet would be amazing!! Hijikata knows that he's busy with his shop too, but if he can spare some hours at dusk or dawn or occasionally during the night it'd help a lot. Hijikata still spends a lot of time in Camelot City, but with Emet stationed there he could stay at the Forest of the Felled a little more (he'll to want to help train some potential new NPC knights in the new camp etc). Should I make a general-ish thread for them to discuss the matter, or should we incorporate it into something else (like our ghost hunt thread)?

The dream thread isn't boring at all!! I don't mind Hijikata being more on an observer for once (and even so he still got to run around in the apocalypse and argue with Emet)! He'll definitely come out of it shaken up by seeing how much devastation Emet went through. I don't have any other wishes; I'm enjoying it!

Emet's a homebody so he's more than happy to stay and watch over Camelot matters while Hijikata goes seeking outwards. We can either handwave discussion or Hijikata can bring it up during the ghost hunt thread! Up to you.

Let's see how the ghost hunt goes! It's a good opportunity to discuss what exactly Hijikata is even doing with those ghosts, and we can handwave whatever they don't end up talking about there.

Man, poor Emet... at least Hijikata lives nearby and can fetch them a drink if they need it after all that!

Hell yeah, count me in!! I'm familiar with Attack on Titan, so I know that Jean has seen some serious shit, and Hijikata always appreciates gutsy quest partners! But we can also have them do something less breakneck for a start, of course; he'll just be happy to have a new knight buddy. Do you have any preferences?

I'm fine with either route. They both have access to the castle armory now so they could just meet there or while bonding with their new mounts.

That works! The latter would be especially neat. Perhaps they can go on some sort of airborne mission or scouting trip together when the opportunity arises! Jean's animal magic would be a huge help since so far Hijikata had to rely on NPC animal mages to communicate with "his" archaeopteryx.

We can do that, but I just realised that it's about time for the event planning already (where did half of January go?!), so we could also wait and see if there's a prompt that would lend itself to that sort of thing!

You're right, the month is just flying by. Though it looks like Jean will be going and Hijikata won't... :|a but at the same time, Jean's an animal mage for woofs.

If you'd like to Jean could help Hijikata get his horse back after the party in the morning (it ran away because his weredog transformation spooked it)! But otherwise we can always still go the archaeopteryx route now, or else wait for the next batch of quests. Whatever you prefer!
