[With the impulsive truth serum suffusing the meme, she is moved to admit:]

I would say that your propensity for remaining closed off for the sake of protection is a bit sad... But it has a certain noble charm all the same.

[ Unbeknownst to her, each word she speaks is another arrow. It doesn't matter if she had been made to tell him these truths; that they are truths at all makes each compliment a powerful, terrible thing. Somehow, he manages to stop himself from reaching up to grasp at the fabric of his chest.

He settles himself, his nostrils flaring as he inhales. When he regains some of his composure, his attention returns to her, his gaze forlon, his voice noticeably more quiet, somber. ]

But these features are second in beauty only to that which lies in your heart.

Your compassion, Daughter of Rigel. [ The title is nearly whispered as if he dare not speak of her further. Yet unable to stop the enchantment from acting upon him, he continues. ] It shines so brilliantly as to rival the sun..., unparalleled, righteous.

I... remain in awe of your kindness to others, your mercy, your understanding. Your grace touches the souls of those who are wounded, who others would think underserving. Yet you only give more of yourself. Your belief in others, that goodness you extend to all, even if they may not ask for it... I admire it most.

Somnus already speaks so little in usual circumstances. How is she supposed to handle such a flood?]

I... [Her voice cracks. Her heart is pounding. She can barely meet his eyes. Her fingers drop from her face in half-remembered manners.] I hardly know what to say.

[ HER FIGURE?!??!? He's looked??????!!!!!!!!!!! She is hyperaware of the air between them. Just standing here is going to catch her aflame. Oh my god???? Lord Duma grant her strength]

[But... wait.

Rinea's thoughts thread a needle through the meaning of his last words. Her posture relaxes, her attention focused on something troubling.]

Lord Somnus... do you think you are undeserving?

[ He's well aware that he's said too much. However, he'll take what little autonomy enchantment allows. Better for her to stammer and shy from him, than for her to be completely overwhelmed if he confessed the depth of his fondness for her. Better for her to know of his fondness for her mind and body and compassion and grace, than for three treacherous words to push her away entirely.

As suspected, she regains her composure quickly. In comparison, behind his muted visage, he is reeling.

He knows why she asks, for his words had implied as much. However, he doesn't wish to curry her pity, or for her to extend her compassion to him because he sees himself as unworthy. For all that he has done, he is undeserving.

This is simply as it should be. ]

Your generosity is yours to give, just as those who stand beneath the sun are blessed by its light and warmth.

But know that there are those who have done wrong, that the light still touches.
