TEST DRIVE MEME ⚔️️ 4
![]() Premise ⚔️️ Rules ⚔️️ FAQ ⚔️️ Taken ⚔️️ Reserves ⚔️️ Apply ⚔️️ Locations ⚔️️ Bestiary ⚔️️ Top-Levels Only ⚔️️ ![]() A ⦿ Soaking in Your Arrival
Regardless of what you were in the middle of, you and your familiar have been magically pulled into the world of Avalon just above the Bay's chilly waters. After a brief plunge into the Bay, the rush of water filling your ears and soaking up into every creak and crevice of your body, you may need to cough to clear your airways when you rise above the surface. It's paralyzingly cold for a few seconds before you're approached by the Lady of the Lake beneath the water's surface. She puts a vial of a vibrant, glowing red Everwarm* potion to your character's lips. The icy water doesn't feel so icy once consumed and you'll be able to move your limbs enough to swim to shore on your own. She can't stick around to explain, she's got to get this to all the new arrivals! Many of which you'll see plopping in around you. If you can't swim, a handful of helpful ice turtles will scoop you up from beneath and drop you off at the shore. It's a fast process, as they no longer have to collect possessions and pets from drowning in the waters, so they're only needing to go around hitting the ice that keeps forming on the surface with their shells to keep the surface open for the falling arrivals. If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. If anyone with Animal Magic asks the turtles, they will give the full spiel, but very slowly, and they like to get off topic and gossip about other turtles you've never heard of. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, but if you do fall, be prepared for a mysterious sand hand to reach out of the side of the cliffs to catch you. The hand will pat you atop the head twice before retreating back into the wall. This is the Cliff Beast; despite the name, he is quite friendly. B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot
These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console with nip bottles. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, C ⦿ The Red Spring
If you don't want to relax in the room, try taking a dip in the spring for another chance to meet your fellow travelers. The waters have restorative properties that help horses and travelers recover quickly when drunk. It is known to relieve stress, improve energy levels, and mildly accelerate healing. It may be a little chilly when you get out though, so make sure you don't slip rushing back indoors when you get out! The springs are also home to a large training grounds just outside town limits, where there are teachers who will teach basic magic safety and help you discover what kind of magic you have together with other new arrivals. Try target practice, obstacle courses, meditation circles, and other ways to try to figure out just what you can do... if you didn't already have an accidental discovery on the ride there. ![]() As the snows give way to rain and the cold persists across Avalon, it may seem as if some of the local businesses are suddenly short-staffed. A favorite spot might have shorter hours, longer wait times. Whatever it is, it seems that there are fewer Avalonians as the days go on. It is not long before there are signs posted outside local businesses and every clinic, there is an illness striking the populace and adventurers seem to be immune. While the healers can cure this malady, they are short on supplies and some of them are not easy to obtain. All are urged to take up a task and gather these ingredients. Anyone who does obtain one or more of the required ingredients will be given a Fairy-blessed Tincture of Wellbeing from one of the faeries who stayed behind after the tournament. It is said to bring healing no matter where you are when you sprinkle it on the ground in front of you. (Note: The tincture will teleport the nearest healing mage to your location. This information is not included with the tincture... surprise!) A ⦿ Ingredient One: A Can of Sprite
B ⦿ Ingredient Two: Deez Nuts
C ⦿ Ingredient Three: Wait, isn't that a Pokémon?
Make sure to complete all your tasks, though, try not to be too angry when once their yard and home are spotless the Hill Troll produces a satchel of poliwag grass straight from their cupboard. They didn’t say you had to go on the trip with them and they will need to replenish their supply after, so they're not apologizing for anything. ![]() A video is sent to everyone's devices, a strong magic spell making certain that it opens. Morganna's face appears. Morganna, after all, is to be listened to when she speaks. She seems to be looking at her nails as the recording starts, not looking at her captive audience. |
| ”"As infamous as Arthur and Merlin are, there are many magics they are unfamiliar with. They live in the realm of basic magics, the ones you all have touched and trifled with. But there are skills you will need in the future that require something a little stronger. Now if you came to me seeking spells, I would ask a fair price, dears... but it is my universe you are all saving too, so I will offer you a taste." She finally looks directly into the screen. Despite that it's just a recording, it looks as if she's looking directly into your soul. She sees you even without you responding. Her lips curl up in a little smile, friendly and yet mischievious. "Magic is stronger when more than one person performs it. Where you would be able to toss fire, you could create a fire tornado or rip the earth until it spits the fires of hell up as lava. To perform this kind of magic, you must be entirely in sync with your partners. Of one mind, of one movement. Open the attachment and it will place a memory of how to perform Synchronic Magic with a partner into your mind. It will still take practice, of course. Baby steps." |
| Magic-infused technology is a hell of a thing-- those who listen after the video ends and open up the attachment will find themselves rapidly flooded with what amounts to an instructional video and a visual sample of witches moving exactly in sync. After a little finger painting on each other's face and collar bones and some deep meditation while performing the spell, the caster of the spell will have complete control over the movements of the person the spell is cast upon. For the duration of the spell, the person who the spell was cast upon will mentally reside in the caster's head outside of their body. Their body will do anything the caster's does. For this particular version of the spell to work, it requires the consent of the person it's being cast upon, though there are other forms of the spell that do not that are not. With that knowledge, get practicing. A ⦿ We Succeed Together
B ⦿ We Fail Apart
C ⦿ Loss and Gain
After the magic is done, at the center of the tented area, everyone is invited to gather around a huge, prismatic bonfire taking place in the center of the park that the tents had been set up in. The bonfire is filled with flames of all colors, like a prism reflecting light and warmth, and acts as a beacon for casters' shadows to find their owners and reconnect with them. It also is enchanted to encourage affectionate feelings. This may inspire people to be more... touch-friendly than normal, wanting to hug and hold onto or simple be shoulder-to-shoulder with the people around them. These feelings can easily be fought even if they're present, but fulfilling them will help to eliminate the sense of loss from the synchronic spell ending. At the end of the night, little rainbow fireflies will begin to fly away from the flames, having been hatched within them, and fly off into the night as the flames turn to embers, and then to charcoal. It is said that if you catch a rainbow firefly, you can make a wish on it, and when let go they will take those wishes to the heavens with them. Some wishes may actually be granted, so if your character has a wish, submit it here. MOD NOTES: • All test drive prompts are open to anyone in the game at any time to create your own logs with, but this post should have top-levels by potential new characters only. Current characters may reply to any threads, but should not top-level comment on this post. • If your application is accepted, you may accept TDM threads as game canon as long as both players consent. Characters may begin threading as soon as their journal is accepted to the communities. • If nothing here tickles your fancy, try one of this month's Quests for your TDM prompt. • The first "Arrival" prompts are present on every TDM, but contain seasonal tweaks for flavor. All other prompts will change monthly. (This month, please check updated method of inventory collection at the Rent-a-Ride and the "February Special" rooms at the Red Spring.) • The Shadow Dance Ritual is a form of advanced dark magic; this means that yes, after significant practice, a dark magic user may be able to do this on their own with only their own shadow. Even if your character isn't a dark mage, they can do a ritual to perform out-of-discipline magic. More information on rituals and how to unlock them will come in the future! • Please comment with wishes regardless of new/current member status if you want to participate! :) • Questions about this TDM's content? Comment here! If you have a question about the game at-large, please head over to the FAQ. *This Everwarm does not count toward your potion collection for those who wish to take up potion brewing. You must obtain Everwarm from the Elphame Trader's to count. **Jackets come in a variety of neutral colors, enchanted with a fit-adjustment spell that will adjust to your character's size. |

Lethe | Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
[Every Gallian soldier worth their claws, Lethe obviously included, learned to deal with water early in their training. That didn't make it particularly nice, especially when the water was this damned cold. It made her suck in a breath despite her training, and—that strange spirit had appeared as if summoned, pressing a potion into her mouth that warmed the body like sweet wine before Lethe could spit it out. And before Lethe could so much as swat at the spirit, it drifted out of reach. Continuing after it would have been a sluggish, waterlogged business—she needed to get out of this damned water first, and the chunks of ice floating about gave that thought far more urgency. Questions could follow. And whatever that...potion was, it let her shed the cold like a dolphin.
When the cat laguz made it to the shore, she pulled herself out of the water—and stopped, fixing her sharp gaze on whoever was closest.]
You there. Back up.
[Says the still soaking cat woman, water running off her russet tail and flattened ears. She hadn't shaken herself off yet. She was being polite.]
Caravan to Camelot
[After she had made it up the cliff, Lethe had taken the strange trinkets given to her and drifted off to the side, where she could examine them in more detail. An ear remained turned back, listening to the speech, but Lethe's attention faced elsewhere.
The coat was an obvious thing, and fit loosely enough that she didn't need to cut a hole in it for her tail. It was folded and set aside, along with the odd corded ear bangles. This rectangular box, though, seemed to have far more secrets in it than it appeared.
This may have been an unfamiliar technology, but Lethe wasn't stupid. It didn't seem to require magic like a tome did, as the laguz could use it freely. She'd figured out the basic first ritual; press one of the small buttons on the side, and the screen would light up. Which button specifically, though...that she was still fiddling with. Sometimes the laguz turned the volume up instead, and the helpful advice blared so loud Lethe's ears flattened to her skull. Sometimes she turned the screen off by accident, and grumbled irritably to herself as she tried to recover to where she had been.]
I don't need smart, I need functional— [the laguz muttered to herself, tracing a clawed finger between the buttons on the glowing screen.]
[Bwip. Something went wrong again. Lethe didn't growl, or make any other undignified noise, but her tail gave her mood away by flicking irritably behind her.]
The Red Spring
[Lethe's adventures puzzling out this curious place's trinkets and contraptions seemed to be neverending. At sundown, the strange carts disgorged them into a city unlike any she had ever seen, and for once she was glad for whatever had dulled her senses. The noise of so many people, so many machines, such busy roads—it would have been deafening. The scents were strange and acrid even to her weakened nose. And while Lethe initially balked when told where to go, the laguz didn't fancy her chances in a dark she couldn't see through.
She did not trust the chocolates, and so left hers uneaten. The room's furnishings were...garish, to say the least, but much of it seemed so soft, down to the chairs and the wall-to-wall rug. And there were more boxes, more lights, more doors with hinges that fit flush to the device in question (she'd already opened and shut the fridge door ten times to see if its light turned off).
This time, the laguz was studying the TV. The back of it, specifically the wires. She could tell they had something to do with the images the thing displayed, but what exactly they did was still a mystery. Lethe didn't like mysteries, or not knowing if she was being spied on through that device.
She hasn't pulled any out yet, but from the thoughtful frown and twitch in her tail that seemed like an inevitable conclusion.
Curiosity and cats, and all.]
Do you know if this is dangerous? [she asked aloud, an ear swivelling to face the other presence in the room.]
[Wildcard]
[OOC: If none of these appeal to you, feel free to contact me to plan something something else! My plurk is
caravan
At 5'6" and built like a fence-post, Claire was hardly an imposing figure. The dark red bike jacket and pistol belted to her hip probably stood out though.]
Need some help?
no subject
Neither prepared Lethe for how close they had gotten or how big the dog was until she turned to look, and her posture stiffened with a stifled jump.]
Perhaps I do. Who's asking?
[The beorc had asked the question, but Lethe's gaze fell to the hound instead, expecting it to answer.]
no subject
...If you're wanting an answer from him, he's probably not going to give it. The Dog is a little on the surly side at times. But I'm Claire, and he's not much of one for names.
[Hence the Dog, or Furball, or any other number of nicknames. He accepts those well enough.]
no subject
[Some laguz didn't feel very talkative in their beast forms either, so that wasn't much of a surprise. This one must have trusted the beorc a lot, though, to allow her on his back. A team, then.]
I am Lethe. And this thing- [she prods the phone in its screen, which of course makes the helpdesk page she was looking at turn to the next] -is being very irritating.
no subject
What is it you're trying to get it to do? I can definitely help with that.
no subject
I'm trying to figure out what it is, exactly. Not just what it says it is. [It could be lying, or withholding information. Laguz is suspicious.] What activates it, and if it's replaying my words elsewhere as loudly as it's saying this...advice.
[She had managed to navigate to the advanced options, and is subsequently a bit lost.]
no subject
[Claire, a 90s kid, has never owned a cell.]
I can probably show you the basic functions if you want to sit down with me for a few minutes. It's pretty essential to life around Camelot.
no subject
I do not. [Though Lethe could guess, from that context.] But if that's correct, it sounds like a sending stone.
[One full of...extraneous features. But she hadn't entirely known how the sending stones the dragons and herons used worked, either. They were too rare and the army had more pressing things to get on with than methodical explanation, like that looming apocalypse.]
...I suppose learning what a tool can do is beneficial. [lethe just press agree on the ToS already.] Do you trust these things, Claire?
no subject
[It's magic, as far as she can tell. And that's good, that makes it easier.
Claire steps closer, to the side, so she can peer down at it.]
I do. They're reliable. And the people that gave them to us appear genuine.
[She admittedly hadn't thought to vet King Arthur too much, but really, it all seemed above board.]
It's not going to hurt you, Lethe.
no subject
Not everything shows its fangs before it bites, let alone tells you what master it spies for.
[She'll take that information into account, of course. But this was a strange world that put Lethe on unsteady footing from the start. Not exactly calming to a wary mind.]
So, it lets me speak to people. How do I choose who I contact?

red spring
Honestly, she felt like she'd been kind of wrangling the other woman the entire time, since she set her gear down. But, she supposed it couldn't be helped... ]
Electric current runs through those, you you should definitely be careful. That waxy coating is what protects you from the wires within, my lady.
no subject
Ah. Chained lightning again.
[Someone in this place must have particularly hated dragons, with so much captive lightning about ready to spring loose at a touch.]
When does the lightning go out? Or does it vanish, only to return in the same state, like...
[She gestured at the TV screen, eyes still on the cables in case they did something she didn't expect them to.]
no subject
Think of it more like mana. It's energy that the television uses to work properly. One energy is for the power itself, and the other energy helps the picture show.
[ Gareth reached to actually turn the television on, defaulting to the inn's in-house network. ]
no subject
That makes sense, I suppose. Though it seems dangerous to have so much power so close to where one sleeps.
[Mages on the battlefield slept close by their materials too, but...well. Mages were generally the odd sort, anyway. At the very least, they were better equipped to deal with any magical mishaps.]
no subject
It's not dangerous at all, my lady! Like I said before, that waxy coating on the cables is what protects you from it. You'd have to be touching the raw metal of the wires to feel any of that energy directly.
[ Gareth has a certain appreciation for technology, since her lance was a piece of exceptionally fine magitech, itself. ]
no subject
She was the stranger here. Getting the wrong kind of intel because she couldn't keep her temper wouldn't do.]
And if the cables come loose from the wall?
no subject
[ Which she really hoped Lethe wouldn't immediately test. ]
By the way, you're free to take the bed tonight. Isn't proper for a knight to share a bed with a lady she only just met, after all.
no subject
Thanks, but that won't be necessary. I don't sleep much in strange places.
[The thrilling sequel to There Was Only One Bed: And Then They Both Slept on the Floor.]
no subject
If only we had some gear to camp out with. Honestly, that'd feel way more comfortable for me.
[ And something gave her the impression Lethe appreciated that kind of environment, too. ]
red spring
At the question about the TV, though, he has to give a little disbelieving smile. ]
Sure is. Don'tcha know, television is world famous for rotting people's brains 'til they leak out of their ears.
no subject
Ugh. A dreadful thing to sleep near.
[Lethe has made the executive decision not to, in fact, pull the wires out. Yet. Perhaps if she found a heavy glove later.]

A weather forecaster's face appears on the screen, gesturing to the pattern of cgi clouds in the background. With another click, a canned laugh track cuts through the room as a disgruntled gentleman picks himself off the ground only to slip on the same banana peel he'd just slipped on. With another, alarm bells ring and strobe lights flash, a game contestant jumping up and down with their arms in the air trying to snatch all they can in a shower of bills. Another, a fake puppet Godzilla stomps on a miniature city meant to be scaled to the real thing, and post-editing laser beams shoot out of the monsters eyes and mouth to level the rest of the city. ]
Heh... This one doesn't look too bad!
no subject
Not right this second, though. Lethe backed up half a step when the screen lit up, leaning back slightly to get a better look. There was...a faint buzzing, too, like the whining from the flameless lanterns. But she quickly got the idea. This seemed like the screens on the communicators, just far larger. Large enough it needed to be tethered to some outside power source. And it seemed to show different things, mostly. Something about the weather--quite useful, though they showed a map with green clouds. Each click of the remote's button made an ear turn towards it, until finally it just stayed pointed at Karma.
Next came various entertainments, or at least things Lethe thought were supposed to be entertainment. Watching someone slip on a fruit peel was suitably funny, watching another person jump and snatch bits of paper out of the air was...confusing.
The last one with the monster advancing on a city was alarming, not funny. The laguz glanced to the window--but the roars and sound of fire and shattering buildings only came from the TV. And there were no alarming tremors underfoot. Nothing of great concern. Just more strange beorc plays.]
Curious depiction of a dragon.

[ It's an old show, but familiar enough that he can suspend his disbelief and just settle back on the bed for two hours of brain melting. ]
You're not gonna want to watch it from so close, though, or it'll fry your eyes out quicker than it can melt your brain.
