I joined Prismatica alone last July/August, just like a month after watching the show for the very first time in my life (so I'm a newbie in the fandom!) and was a LCW for a while until Azula joined me at Prisma months later, along with an Iroh there (he won't be joining us here, too busy) after another ATP advert I put up back then. We met Sokka and Katara's players in that game cuz they played Asami and Korra (respectively) but didn't get to play together very closely there. So then when Prisma ended and Avalon opened, they brought the Water Tribe siblings and we brought the Fire Nation siblings (Azula and Zuko kept Prisma CRAU) — but the Toph and Suki were surprises to us, idk those players, they just appeared in the TDM as blessings! So really we're all a band of strangers bit by bit. If anything that's like... ~*~DeSTiNy~*~, right? Hahaha!
So lol yeah that's our cast's "story..." Pretty fresh, not all that intimidating in actuality. All that said: I r o h . . . OωO
I'd be honored to voicetest with you hehehe. These are tough characters, so I get it, Iroh's definitely like in his own tier haha — but don't be intimidated by us, as players we'd all be stoked to have an Iroh (even just to practice with on TDM!) — obviously most especially me hehe... Welcome to the fandom, it is a scary but fun place. :D I have seen the first series a few dozen times but made the mistake of telling my mother I would wait for her to catch up before I finish Korra, because she got really into ATLA. So I am in limbo there. My mom is... not good about finishing shows, I was in shock we finished ATLA, but she enjoyed it!
I have some ideas for usernames floating in my head, so will see about a journal. What helps me feel like I might be able to pull off Iroh is that i have a character from another series that is fairly similar in personality and reactions that I have played in Psls and have done well with the voice on. (An immortal Dragon im human form who is an advisor to the emperor, breathes fire even in human form and was supposed to be the magic teacher for the main character and became a sort of uncle type to her alomg the way (though if he ever admitted being fond of her, she would probably run for the hills, and he knows that.) So when in doubt, I can fall back on Sanabalis.
And I am babbling now. So going to try to get some sleep, and I will see about a journal and icons and such tomorrow. Thank you for being welcoming, and I am sorry in advance if I am not great with him. (Please please please feel free to be honest and let me know if I am not doing well. Thank you.)

i've just contributed one ;)that's adorable you and your mom watch together!!! and funny your other character has so much in common with Iroh hehe. No pressure, though, legit, like... I'm new at Zuko compared to, say, Miwako, whom I've played off and on for like 15 years rofl. A-And Zuko's also the complete opposite disposition to her, and to myself tbqh! I second-guess myself with Zuko still and it's been over half a year since he fucking took over my life rofl. I'm a strong believer in the "this is just a game we do for fun" mentality, yknow? Helps to remind oneself of this sometimes, the bar is not really as high as it often feels. I'm super chill~ ♥
Zuko's got, uh, a lot going on as usual lmao but iroh can be involved as deeply or independently as feels fit! zuko's been taking care of himself fine, for um better or worse. on the one hand, zuko's becoming a full-time student soon and plans to join the volley ball club. on the other hand, his best friends are either in a host club or in the mafia. he's... doing... fine? overall... balance, uncle. balance.

I probably won't ask for icons, just because I found a metric ton of Gifs and probably will spend way longer than I ought to making animated icons. Because I have decided that I love those. >.<
My mum and da used to watch shows together all the time, and I sued to watch on the phone with my bestie. But between the divorce and my bestie getting a new wonderful but exhausting job, mum and I have kind of wound up just watching together. Which in some ways is a lot of fun, but in some places our tastes are... VERY different. I honestly expected her to watch a few episodes to humour me then politely back out. Instead I got a lot of "It's your fault for getting me into this show" whenever I suggested something else and she was only interested in Avatar, lol.
She kept saying, all series, "I would enjoy this so much more if this was live action, I wish there was a live action version." I told her about the movie and that the only way I would put it on was if she finished the series first. She was SO SURE she was going to love the movie. I had been just as sure before it came out. (I even have the full huge movie banners from the theater that my boss saved for me. They have never been hung up in my room.) I warned her, then put it on for her. She couldn't even get halfway through it. She then admitted to me that the animated was way better and she now understood why I can rant for hours about the movie.

I will try to get Iroh onto the TDM by Monday if not sooner. (I have a voice char RP tonight and a virtual meeting Sunday, and possibly D&D via voice on Sunday)
For the kids I already have in game though, I'd love to see the disaster that would be Zuko and Kyoko meeting, if you are up for it. Kyoko is... Not sure if you are familiar with Skip Beat, but if you are not, I can sum her up y saying that she is emotional whiplash in painfully hot pink clothes. Also in pink, is Donovan, who is not quite like Iroh or Sanabalis, but is very much the adoptive father take care of everyone used to kids who are more powerful than he is type.
And Donovan could really use someone to help him with his elemental abilities, lol.

I recently joined in on a watch party on twitch that Dante Basco (Zuko's VA) hosted where he watched the movie for the first time. It was really funny cuz he, too, went into it very optimistically, his two friends in the watch party were roasting him like "Watch Dante end up loving this, fucking Dante would" lol and at first he did! But slowly it got worse and he kept trying to be very positive, but... he couldn't... they were playing a drinking game — like take a shot every time someone's name is mispronounced (just that one alone could get you drunk, christ, my buddy Öng got me fucked up lol) — and y'know you can only hide so much pain drunk lol... Dante finished by saying "I'm not gonna say the Last Airbender was terrible, but—..." And that's Zuko's official take on the Avatar LA movie LOL

Good news as in Studio Avatar? YES! So excited! Must finish Korra!
They're mostly fun kids. I will admit that Donovan is the biggest reason (Aside from not being sure I can do him justice) that I am hesitant about Iroh. Because they are very similar and I try for variety in a game. (for example, Kyoko is an emotional whiplash teenager of the modern age that is overly polite and deals with multiple personalities... sort of. Rhia is a winged girl of the forest with pointed ears who has never used any technology beyond a dagger unless you count magical artifacts. Xigbar is.... cruel, crafty, conniving, and just over all a not nice dood who is faking amnesia just to mess with people. And then... Donovan....)
Donovan. Like I said, there is a lot of Iroh in Donovan, or vice the verse. They're both older men old enough to be a grandfather to most of the kids in game with pale skin, and grey hair. They both have a very avuncular/paternal vibe who will take someone in under their wing and become a father to them. Both are musical and would stop in the middle of their own day out for an upset child. The both traveled a lot, in places that other from the kingdoms they called "home" for most of their adult lives find... less. Both are far more open minded than most of the people where they are from and willing to learn from other peoples/cultures. Both are marked by the shadow of loss in war. Both are in their own ways, fighters.
That said I think there is enough different that I am willing to try. But keeping their voices separate might be a bit of a trick at first. LOL.
That said, I think Zuko would like Donovan, if he could get past the puns that are the main difference between the men. Well the puns and the fashion sense.
I do not know Paradise kiss, but would love to play any/all of mine against either/both of yours.

I wanted to apply with my standard character, Miwako, so she could be friends with Zuko cuz they're total opposites, just assuming Zuko would be taken cuz every game I've ever played in the past when I used to rp always had a full ATLA cast... but instead, for the first time ever in my 15 years of rp, Miwako was taken already. So I was like welp. Guess that means I've gotta play Zuko myself, then. :| ~*~DeSTiNy~*~

your characters all sound so fun!!! Zuko would play well off most of them!! Kyoko and Rhia stand out, Rhia cuz lol what's technology. I'd def love to have Zuko meet Donovan, he needs an Adult in his life again lol. He was taken underwing in Prisma by a FF character (I think) named Yvelon (their private chef I mentioned rofl), as well as by Asami and Korra, and Rin from Ao no Exorcist was his boss who fed him for free every shift he worked too (Zuko was a busboy at a teppanyaki restaurant rofl, working hard on the grind lil prince), so he had caretakers looking out for him... Now in Avalon, no one. I honestly haven't figured out how he and Azula are feeding themselves yet lol. I'd say he's subsiding off frozen/microwave food except that Zuko's afraid of microwaves now rofl, because he accidentally burned down his flat with the hosts the very last night of Prisma, that's his final memory there lmao..... cuz he put something metal in the microwave and it caught fire, then the hosts tried to help tame the fire by throwing flour on it, which... made it worse... so it spread rapidly through the house and they all just. ran to their rooms and packed their bags and abandoned the house still on fire, called the fire department on their way out the door like "wow we just were walking down the street and saw a building on fire, y'all should check that out, we're innocent passerby btw" and all reluctantly rented a cheap motel room together. then Zuko woke up in Avalon lol. so like... ...Zuko needs an Adult. clearly. he doesn't even have a job yet because he didn't know you have to interview to get jobs... :| he needs a helping hand, donovan. and uncle lol. uncle heLP
I can definitely see how it'd be conflicting to play two similar characters. But it sounds like they're dissimilar enough too that once Iroh's voice sets in more comfortably you can differentiate easily when writing, I hope!
I also like variety in my roster. If I ever have enough time and creative energy, I had been planning to app possibly Nandor from What We Do in the Shadows, Wirt from Over the Garden Wall, Ranka from Ouran High School Host Club (only if we get a Haruhi) and/or Shishiwakamaru from Yu Yu Hakusho. Although I've thought about some wildcard characters too like Dorothy Zbornak from Golden Girls or Dale Gribble from King of the Hill. So like... clearly variety matters to me rofl. But this is all only if I ever get the time cuz right now I can barely handle two characters I love and already have lots of icons for. I'd have to make my own icons for any of these other options so it'd be a pain. these are pipe dreams. but myriad ones lol.
Miwako would probably play well off Donovan, too. And Iroh hehe. She's a spunky fashion design student at an arts school in Tokyo, she's an oddball with a wild imagination, rather childish and innocent but at the same time flippantly delinquent lowkey, but despite her bubbliness secretly struggles with anxiety and has a major inferiority complex compared to her much older sister Mikako who's a hugely successful designer with her own clothing brand and boutiques. But now in Avalon, Miwako feels empowered by the lack of competition, and seeks to start her own brand here, so she's working hard at multiple jobs and quests to save up money to rent a studio space. She's also fiercely hunting models cuz she wants to market her brand online on AOL. So if she likes the way one of your characters physically looks, that's enough for her LOL... she terrified poor Gokudera chasing him down on the street calling him sexy and guessing at his measurements out of nowhere lol just because she liked his bitchy punky look. But she wants a variety of different looking people in her modeling crew. If Donovan is handsome and stylish from the sounds of it (you said pink, too?! she's also pink lol) she'd totally dote on him and possibly beg him to model, too. Otherwise she'd do well with a punny tender grandpa in her life too hehe

I've been RPing in one form or another since I was a bitty. My folks met because of RP so it has always been part of my life. Glad to know Zuko brought you back into the life. :D
Happy to lend Donovan to Zuko. Even if I app Iroh next cycle it isn't like I can play him in game now. So we can set that up for this week if you want! Donovan can usually be found at any given inn or tavern singing for his supper. He doesn't have a job job, just an agreement with the proprietors to provide entertainment in exchange for being allowed to put down a tip bowl. So he's easy to find. And given he is a famous bard back home, he's got an amazing voice. (He's in a thread where he is explaining how music saved a town. >.<)
Rhia would be happy to meet more people who don't know from tech. Just be prepared for her to land on him. And needle him. She 's the bratty sister type and tends to see all teen guys around here like her brother. Her brother, who by the way, happens to be Merlin. Though she usually calls him Young Hawk or Emrys. Because of course he couldn't possibly have just one name.
And yes, we were talking Kyoko on plurk. (I blame you for that Kyoko appreciation plurk, but I knew it was coming at some point.) We can plot there for a threads.
Ranka or Dorothy would be amazing. I know Donovan at least would get along with both, and Kyoko... responds well to father figures. (I don't know the other characters, sorry!) I might be able to help with Dorothy icons. I haven't watched that in ages though. Grandma and I were watching it together near the end. Mum hates it for some reason, but Grandma and I had fun after everyone else went to bed. We watched that and the episodes of Frasier that I could handle, and some of Nanny and a few others.
As for Miwako..... Kyoko has had some lessons from a professional model. It was more how to walk and stand naturally like a model than how to pose, and she hasn't ever had to do a long photoshoot, but she has potential. And she is easily transformable with makeup, clothes, and wig work. And here she even has magic to change her hair colour. Donovan would also be happy to model if it made her happy. He likes making people happy.

Wow, that's amazing your folks met cuz of rp!! My friend met her husband through an rp forum, too. I've been role-playing off and on since I was like 13 (I'm 29 now), I was pretty steady from that age until like 20... Then I fell out of it for eight years. I had a BRIEF stint in 2017 where I tried to get back into it with another random muse that surprised me out of nowhere after years away, Ickis from Aah!! Real Monsters lmao (
although my coworker pointed out to me the other day that i too have been role-playing in some form since i was bitty when i revealed to him me and my cousin used to center our Barbie games around the '80s Boston pub sitcom Cheers...... like normal kids, you know.
we ran out of Kens so Norm turned into Norma lol.We stayed IC and replicated plots that might happen in the show, so I mean... it was technically rp in hindsight lmao.Looking forward to Zuko and Donovan!! Sounds like Zuko could find Donovan super easily cuz Zuko hangs out at teashops and such. If we get a Haruhi, 100% apping Ranka the next app round after her. She can have a month of freedom without Daddy lol. Maybe two. But that's a for certain character that will be revived. I still have access to old icons from when I played Ranka in high school so I'm already set. Just waiting on fate lol.

My gran and I also watch it together. When I was a kid my late mother and I watched it, too, she was a nurse in nursing homes so she had a special fondness for the elderly, so it was one of her fav shows, too. Just a classic all around. Touches people in all walks of life. I don't understand people who don't like it. What's not to like?! Also yeah lol Frasier is... not great. The Nanny is fantastic. I could probs play Fran. Or Yetti LMAO. I'm Jewish so honestly those characters would be a blast. Break out all my Yiddish IC ehehe~
Highly recommend What We Do in the Shadows (a hilarious LA Hulu series about mundane vampires who live in Staten Island) and Over the Garden Wall (a stunning Nickelodeon miniseries, 90 min long total, beautiful beautiful piece of art, and very cute) tho btw.
I've got Miwako on an extended hiatus now while I get caught up with Zuko, but once she's back on the scene, I'll lyk and we'll see what happens~! ☆

I love RP and realized once I was diagnosed that I had been subconsciously using RP as a tool to fight my Aspergers. It forced me to accept on a daily basis that other people think differently than I do. Since I discovered that I've been actively seeking out as many different "types" of characters as I could to learn all sorts of different view points. Somethings I may never understand, like why someone would ever choose to be racist and stay racist against all logic, but at least I know how to think about what it would be like to breathe fire but be on a clothing budget? LOL.
I love lots of forms of RP and writing. I am a serial novelist who seems to only get published for short stories, sadly. But I think at least half of my published stories were in worlds that came out of writing with my co-author, through Roleplay. (You should seriously see the chest I use for notes and manuscripts. Turned on its end it is my current TV stand.) There are fun live versions that can be enjoyable, but you'll like them or you wont. One of the things RP constantly reminds me is that if we all liked and disliked the same things and agreed all the time, the world would be a very boring place.
That said RP is a wonderful method of escapism, as is reading. I fall into both as often as I can. Always have. I can't worry about too much escapism, myself, but that's mostly been because it has been my main coping mechanism for basically ever.
I love stuff like that! One of my two best friends and I became friends when she said "We're going to play Pirates of Dark Water".
I could specifically have Donovan playing one of his softer, more sentimental songs, if that would help? Blue Angel is a good one for sad sentiment and could echo leaves from the vine?
I would love a Hahuri, Kyoko and she could bond over ugh, rich people, if nothing else. LOL.
I will have to check those out. I didn't have cable until I was in college and then the only Nick that was put on was mum watching stupid Spongebob, so it took me aaages to get into Nickelodeon. Catching up has been a more recent development, lol. Finished Victorious, started Sam and Cat, but then Icarly came on so watching that. I can look for those two also!

That's... all super insightful and kind of mind-blowing what you say?? I can really relate to this and had never quite framed it like that? It's definitely a lesson in empathy and something that requires one to be psychologically analytical. I developed it as a coping mechanism in times when I was isolated, so it provided social avenues that weren't available in my real life, and that taught me social skills in a practicable, erasable way, which was very useful to me growing up, I think. Escapism has always been my main coping mechanism too, one way or another. Playing a character like Miwako consistently for years was impactful on my personality for sure, too, I think in a very healthy way. It's interesting what draws us to each character we're drawn to, but like you, I think it's a good practice to have a variety of personalities in our repertoire as writers, shows we can relate to many experiences unlike our own, even if we... made them up lol...

I have had a lot of bleed between RL and RP. I try to keep that separate most of the time, but sometimes I specifically channel a character IRL when I am in a tight spot. One time at my first job, one of my coworkers, a bartender who loved to harass anyone smaller than him (and I was smaller than everyone there) Decided that because I'm Wiccan I clearly do all sorts of stuff I should CW for if I was going to say it, that just... turned my stomach. And he never let up. He used to call me Ray because I was "such a ray of sunshine" on morning parties. (I very much was not. If I am working a wedding till 2 am and am back at 7 am for a bat mitzvah And you had the whole week off, yes, you are going to be more cheerful and I am going to growl at anyone who tells me to smile because it is a beautiful day. Just. No.) But one week her just ramped it up. He brought in a giant rubber rat and started waving it in my face and making all these horrible suggestions. And I should have just reported him, I should have. But I kind of just... picked a character who was the sort bullies were afraid to harass even though she wasn't herself violent and asked what would she do and just... let her take over. It was kind of like I was Kyoko years before I ever heard of Skip Beat. Everything changed. Posture, demeanor, confidence, bearing. I stood tall, shoulders back, chin lifted, and in another (fictional) language, told him off in a clear and strong voice. Quiet but not soft. He went pale, made one more half hearted attempt. I continued. (I tapped the goblin tongue from Ashes Of The Sun by Hanovi Braddokk. So while what I said sounded like nonsense to him, I not only had the confidence of knowing what I was saying, but also of having a consistency of sound that made it clear I wasn't just spouting gibberish. It was wonderful.) Unfortunately I couldn't get her back out of my head and was crying silently at the father daughter dance at the wedding that night, because while I have a father who loves me, the character I picked... did not. I also channeled an LJS vampire once when I was going on a roller coaster (hate those things) and apparently freaked my grandfather out because I went dead pale, my eyes were weird, and my whole demeanor changed. I also used to bowl IC.
And I was babbling. Sorry >.< TL;DNR - I fully support RP as a coping mechanism.
Donovan probably could, but his primary instrument is the guitar. Electric or otherwise. Of course as he is also from a low tech world, electric guitars are regular guitars hit with lightning magic.... >.>
And the song he'll play, Blue Angel, is about a blue skinned man from another world who gave his own life to save the life of Donovan's son. So a very sentimental and touching tribute. The audience in canon was filled with torches swaying gently as he sang.
Kyoko, stealing info from my mind says that he wore the same clothes enough times and had to have an actual job, so yes, he can join their club. So long as he doesn't call her a plain and boring woman with no appeal. Because if he does that she might just have to kill him.
Oh! That art looks familiar! I think I rped with someone from that show! And I have Hulu so no worries there. I split costs, so I have access to Hulu, D+, Netflix, Crunchy Roll (Or I will again soon), and Amazon Prime. Add a VPN to that mix and I have more to watch than I have time or spoons to watch new stuff.

I relate to that!! it can really help channeling a distinct sort of feeling and personality like that when we embody these mental spaces. I do this with Miwako's muse when I need to force myself to be upbeat, social, positive, inspired creatively, something like this. I can't always grab it or I'm not always drawn to it but it definitely helps to change the lens like that sometimes in a moment of stress needing another pilot so to speak. I can understand this. There are traits in all my characters I deeply respect and would want to emulate and apply to my own life. I want to challenge myself with like a "Zuko week" of being dumbass diligent cuz it's something I personally struggle with, meantime he's so structured and self-disciplined, which is an area in my life I desperately need to develop. This freak is waking up at like 4 or 5am and probs goes to bed by 11 at the latest lol so uh idk if I'm gonna hop on board with him there lol but exercising, meditating, determination through each moment of the day and keeping focus... lol yes if that's the criteria then he can join the commoner club now just by virtue of having zero interest in his fashion sense lol, yay! Zuko wears the same clothes til he can't anymore. Zuko had like a tiny wardrobe by choice in Prisma until two different friends on two separate occasions were like "Zuko, this is a fashion intervention, okay. You own three whole shirts and there's holes in the soles of your only boots, stop this." Titus Alexius (idr/idk his series but maybe you recognize the name) insisted on buying Zuko a whole new wardrobe cuz he was rich with Chroma from being a super friendly affectionate person, meantime Zuko was a waif of a pauper withering away alone in his room lol... Titus bought him pullovers and dress shirts and slacks and oxfords, somewhat by Zuko's instruction or else he'd have been in neons lol, feeding off how formal Zuko acted (he was so cold to Titus at first lol). Then months later when Hikaru from Ouran demanded to cut Zuko's hair cuz he looked like a hippie sheepdog lol, he took him shopping (lol also rich in Chroma from just hanging all over Kaoru constantly) and added in fun colors and designs and layers to help Zuko be a bit more stylish and bold, and Zuko just. let him take the wheel cuz he trusts him. Can't coordinate shit on his own or make his own clothing investments, needs a helping hand to choose his outfits for him lol. He's slowly gaining a sense of style even if he doesn't like modern clothes so much still. He was this close to falling deep into a sales rack of Hot Topic in 2003 rofl cuz Gokudera from KHR wears all this punky jewelry and skulls and skater shirts and shit, tacky lol. Zuko's never seen a man wear so much jewelry. But he like idolized him, y'know, first best friend ever plus a crush, and Zuko tends to emulate people close to him and mimic those he admires, easily influenced... He's still not out of the line of fire of Gokudera's style influence, just took him off the pedestal a little... He'll eventually get his wardrobe back up to snuff here and probably just replace what he remembers having in Prisma because it's easier than trying to get all creative again. He's so much better off left in the aesthetic care of others lol. Even when Iroh did his hair. Better off lol.
I get into this deep level of background detail and visuals in rp (I play Miwako from Paradise Kiss, I can't not Fashion, even with Zuko lol) and if you like imagining that illustrative stuff too, I do also have many examples of Zuko's clothes in-game under his appearance section, since this is how he'll dress in Avalon most the time, too, for future reference.
and lol I know the feeling of more stuff to watch than spoons or time, soml, yet somehow I have time to just watch Bob's Burgers and Golden Girls on repeat, lol oops

Kyoko never used to be a clothes horse, but has become one recently just because she needs costumes for her roles. As herself she usually just wears her hot pink work uniform with a plain tee shirt under it, a bag she made herself, and beat up old sneakers. But... as Natsu, for example... CLOTHES. I swear Natsu and Mio spend more of Kyoko's money than Kyoko does. And Mio only buys books. LOL.
Well mum and I just caught up on Mandolorian and Wandavision which does free up some new stuff spoons for me after next week's overly social anxiety mess. (RP today, rp and meeting Sunday, mum has an appointment Tues, I have a LARP class Wednesday, I have a new doctor Thursday, then gaming Friday again. All virtual, but social in any form takes a LOT of spoons for me >.< Online in text is easiest. But yeah, after next week, can start working on my to watch backlog.
