ok there are a lot of shitposts i can ask but

how did having the Sight affect him/would he have been a different person if he didn't have it!

I think that being as strong in the Sight as he was meant he developed some fixed ideas about what life looks like or ought to look like, because he could see details that few others could. Only Hyth could really claim to notice more than him and I think that this fact was also always in the back of his mind - that his friend could have been superior to him in every way if they just applied themselves to using their gift instead of merely watching. So there is a slight inferiority complex there but BACK IN THE DAYS OF YORE this didn't matter so much because there were many ways to contribute to their society. And besides, it wasn't a matter of competition.

I personally think this feeds into how he doesn't feel like the most appropriate person to take on the title of Emet-Selch. Barring the obvious "he wasn't the first choice", I think he may have worked even harder to compensate what he may have felt was lacking between himself and Hythlodaeus. Like he had to prove he was worthy of the honour. That said, he didn't become a hard worker so much as someone who became really nitpicky about imperfections, which is reflected in some of the citizens' comments about the new Emet-Selch being a lot more discriminating about what concepts the Bureau of the Architect accepted.

If he didn't have the keen sight that he does, he would never have even been considered for the role and would have remained one of many other anonymous citizens. I think he would have liked that, actually. It would give him more leisure to nap when he pleased and he would not have been burdened with responsibility. When the Final Days came, I'm not sure if he would have stayed in Amaurot with Hythlodaeus or followed their other friend but I'm sure the choice would have torn him apart either way.

But otherwise, I believe he would have been a completely average person living a completely average, if indolent, life, and happy about it. He may have ended up at the Bureau of the Secretariat instead due to his attention to detail and found Hyth to be one of the most infuriating Convocation members he ever had to work with. Assuming Hyth still somehow befriended him. I don't know if the third member of their band would notice him if he was that unremarkable though.
