In Rotterdam, he used to look through the windows of shops selling games to kids with families, and wonder what kind of life would allow for that sort of luxury free time. In Battle School, Bean quickly learned that the games in the arcade were not only the students' way of establishing a pecking order outside of classes and battles, but the teachers' way of analyzing students' mindsets and behaviors. It's why Bean had largely stayed away from the games. He still hasn't forgiven the teachers for tricking him into playing the Mind Game and showing him Achilles' face.
