A ⦿ Soaking in Your Arrival
Regardless of what you were in the middle of, you and your familiar have been magically pulled into the world of Avalon just above the Bay's waters. After a brief plunge into the Bay, the rush of water filling your ears and soaking up into every creak and crevice of your body, you may need to cough to clear your airways when you rise above the surface. It's still chilly, but not enough that you can't manage on your own. The Lady of the Lake is swimming around under the water, helping to rescue any wayward travelers who look like they're struggling in the water. This month's helpers are giant pillow jellies, a species of jellyfish that is capable of ballooning itself at the surface to create bouncy pads for characters to hop across to the shore, should they choose or not be able to swim. They come in a variety of bioluminescent colors, but do not seem to be very talkative even to animal magic users. Those who try may find themselves being ignored, even if they hear the jellies talking amongst themselves about this and that. In the middle of the new arrivals, there is a small earthquake that shakes the island and makes the waters choppy. The jellyfish are startled and release a glow-in-the-dark slime that may dye your characters' hair and skin until they can get a proper bath. The Lady of the Lake seems disquieted by the earthquake, but there isn't much to be done about it where they are now besides make sure that everyone is outside of the water as quickly as possible. If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, as the earthquake has scared the cliff beast into hiding, meaning for July's arrivals, there is no safety net. They may need some serious help if a fall occurs! *Reminder: Your character's familiar may or may not be with your character in their initial plunge. If the familiar isn't partial to water, it may meet your character on the beach or sit atop their head while they swim. Or if they are, they might splash about and swim alongside your character. Familiars have different personalities and body specs and we leave those up to the players. B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot
These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console with nip bottles. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, C ⦿ The Red Spring
If you don't want to relax in the room, try taking a dip in the spring for another chance to meet your fellow travelers. The waters have restorative properties that help horses and travelers recover quickly when drunk. It is known to relieve stress, improve energy levels, and mildly accelerate healing. It may be a little chilly when you get out though, so make sure you don't slip rushing back indoors when you get out! The springs are also home to a large training grounds just outside town limits, where there are teachers who will teach basic magic safety and help you discover what kind of magic you have together with other new arrivals. Try target practice, obstacle courses, meditation circles, and other ways to try to figure out just what you can do... if you didn't already have an accidental discovery on the ride there. ![]()
Thankfully, not every minute of Avalon is adventure and trials and rituals. There are moments of respite, and moments to have fun. This July, for example, locals have decided to invite everyone to what they're calling the "Cool Down Carnival"!
Perhaps most notably is the Margaritaville Pair Challenge. If you and an acquaintance can down a giant schooner of frozen margarita in less than a minute together, you'll both get a free happy hour item once a day for the next month from the restaurant and they'll do you a solid and teach you (Recipe) Hangover Moveover, a recipe that instantly cures hangovers. The brain freeze caused by downing that much frozen drink is yours to deal with, unfortunately... B ⦿ Surf New Turf
However, they aren't exactly easy for anyone who isn't an animal mage and will require practice before anyone can set out. You'll need at least one person to steer and one person to act as a combatant, as the lake north of the arrival point is more than a little treacherous but that will be a journey for another day. (Maybe the 20th? Stuff seems to coincidentally always happen around then, huh... Weird.) For now, the fae who stayed behind from the Elphame Traders this month are sticking around to help you find a partner and an aquatic mount that gets along with the two of you. Most of the creatures who have agreed to be mounts are hanging out alongside he beach near the old docks, so you can go around and check out the different kinds of available mounts: Alpacapies: Cousin to the much more violent water horse fae the Kelpies, Alpacapies have been mistaken for baby loch ness monsters on more than one occasion given their penchant for sitting with just their hump and long neck above the waterline. They can be ridden in the water and tend to bond with people who are polite to them upon greeting. They will assist in combat by spitting water at their enemies or kicking with front legs, but they may shake you off if they need to deep dive to gain speed for an attack. They do not have back legs, only a dolphin-like fin. For some reason, they're really impossible to take photographs of.Once you've found a mount that seems right, try to practice balancing on its back. They don't much like saddles so that may be a challenge, but if you hold onto your partner it might be easier! Once you're settled, try racing against another pair or going through a Survivor-esque obstacle course with your mounts.
Whatever the source is, the only solution is to either destroy or scare the cleaning supplies off to the woods before they take over the whole town! A little magic should help, so why not test out the magic you've been working on since arriving in Avalon? ![]()
The earthquake on arrival day was a little frightening, but ultimately didn't seem to cause too much trouble around New Camelot. That is, until a few days later when the farmlands seem to be under attack.. by the undead!? It seems like the wards surrounding the Lands of Rot were disrupted by the earthquake near Camelot's northeast farmland. '
Once the zombies are cleared out, farmworkers will bring out gifts of fresh lemonade and some extra mixed herb seeds they gathered throughout the year. They're still good, please take them as a thanks for helping save the farm! B ⦿ Of Wards and Worms
Hopefully you find your way out (or.. if you don't, you find someone to resurrect you, but that would really suck if you just arrived!) C ⦿ Wake Me Up Before You're Go-Gone
What happens next? Who knows. She screams and both you and whoever you're with pass out and wake up snuggling in an inn room. You were definitely in that marsh though, because your pants are still sopping from trudging through it... Well, enjoy the panic, maybe interrogate your neighbors, and try to find out where in the Land of Rot you were! It sure doesn't seem to be on the map... What a mystery! Eiko Carol | Final Fantasy IX | Animal Magic + Light Magic | Undecided familiar
Plunging abruptly into water is probably the last thing Eiko could have expected, and yet... here she is. She fights, coughing and spluttering, to the surface and manages to board one of the oversized jellyfish she's spotted nearby. It's a little odd that they're just floating in place, but who is she to question such a gift?
After the initial shock wears off, and a couple of false starts, the small purple-haired girl even manages to turn the task of hopping from jelly to jelly into a game. Perhaps not the wisest thing, considering her size and lack of skill in the water, but who's going to tell her that?
Eventually, she makes her way over to join the other new arrivals. Scaling the cliffside stairwell seems a little daunting at first, if only because this world is entirely unknown to her. To make up for that, she decides to just stick close to the others and hope for the best.
Surf New Turf
To say she's a bit skeptical after being told she'll need to partner up and pick out a water creature to ride is an understatement. In fact, Eiko is incredibly skeptical of the entire idea. The thought of just cozying up to someone for this seems ridiculous.
On the other hand, the selection is interesting, to say the least. She's hardly impressive, standing there a bit off to the side of the crocodile. The fact that she'd made a beeline for this one in particular probably says something about her. The fact that she also appears to be attempting to coax a goat closer definitely says something- and it's not that she has a well-developed sense of self-preservation.
"C'mon goaty. Go make friends~"
That's... definitely how that's going to work.
Choose Your Own
[If neither of the above strike your fancy, feel free to drop a starter for any of the other age-appropriate prompts. Eiko's a nosy little thing and can probably be spotted poking around just about anywhere she's allowed. Alternately, feel free to hit me up at

Still... still, he has to double take when he sees purple and yellow.
... and sees a horn.
"... Eiko!"
Maybe he shouldn't yell while she's in the middle of her game, but he's also kind of making sure he's not hallucinating.
no subject
Stumbling a little, the former summoner turns abruptly to face the one calling her name, eyes a little wide.
"Zidane! Why are you here?" It's a little more accusatory than she's aiming for, but that can't be helped right now.
no subject
He chuckles a bit at the joke, but then shakes his head. "No, some other world crap again, but I'll explain once you're over here."
Because she's still got a few jellies between herself and actually being on the beach and all. He almost made her all in too which, whoops.
no subject
She sees the joke and chooses to take it entirely literally because she's trying to figure out what's going on. Silliness can probably wait! He does continue, though, 'come over here' isn't much of an answer.
Still, if there's info to be had, she's determined to have it, so she makes her way over to the beach without any further incidents.
"Okay!"
no subject
But this is fine; really, he's been getting by fine, but this world and its weird magic rules.
Once she lands on the beach, he grins and then kind of... bows. "Well, Lady Eiko Carol of Lindblum, welcome to Avalon, a world that survived after some idiots decided to apparently unleash magic onto multiple universes and almost destroyed other worlds, but they ended up frozen in time instead. And now the only way to fix it is through recharging that magic again to reverse everything..." He pauses, thinking about it while making a face. "Yeah, there's a better way to explain it, but that's about the long and short."
no subject
She was honestly just curious about what sort of answer he'd give her. From what she's seen so far of this place, it's pretty odd, so the fact that he might not have figured it out yet makes sense.
The bow makes her giggle, so she decides to follow it up with her estimation of a curtsy. The information isn't exactly comforting, but it's still good to know. "Thanks! And why would they want to unleash magic on multiple universes?" It sounds kind of dangerous, particularly to the universes that didn't already have magic. "Don't worry- I don't need a long, boring lecture." His explanation is probably fine.
no subject
Which - come on - was the most important.
"Anyway, other thing that's important... magic's weird here. I don't think you'll be able to summon your Eidolons." Which they'd be a really big help right now... well, maybe. Anyway, this part was probably best Eiko heard from him than someone else.

SURF NEW TURF
Looking between the mounts though...he was starting to have second guesses. But then he watches as what appears to be a child marching their way over to that enormous, scaly monstrosity...
And then appears to be trying to coax the goat into the thing's mouth?
Oh gods there's so much wrong here and Darin really can't help but intervene.
"I uh...I don't think you're going to convince the goat to just hop into that monster's mouth. That's not how...anything...works."
no subject
No amount of coaxing from Eiko seems to be helping, either.
Fortunately, she's saved from having to continue by the arrival of someone new. Turning slightly, she tilts her head.
"I was afraid of that." It was worth a try, even if it hadn't worked out the way she'd been hoping. "What should I do now? I want this one."
no subject
Look, Darin's not trying to judge. Maybe if she has a good enough reason, Darin might just help her!
no subject
"Which one would you choose?"
no subject
Darin looks between the mounts and finally points to the Alpacapies.
"Why not that one?"
Surf New Turf
So, when she sees the girl calling the goat over... she does a double-take, as if she's searching for some other explanation for what's going on here.
And, coming up with none, she asks the girl directly: "Hold on — you aren't actually planning on sacrificing that creature, are you?"
no subject
There are monsters back home as well, and Eiko has never shied away from confronting them if necessary for whatever reason. This entire situation is avoidable, however, there are two other mounts just waiting around to make friends with the child summoner.
Deinosuchus seems like the coolest one out of the bunch, though, so of course that's the one Eiko wants. Being called out in the middle of her failed attempt to sway the great beast to her side doesn't thrill her, but maybe this woman can help!
"Uh! I was told that bringing him a goat would make him more cooperative." It's about as direct an admission as Allura is bound to get. "Unless you know of another way to do it."
no subject
Well, this girl hadn't struck her as the type.
"I may, but... does it necessarily need to be that one that cooperates? There's quite a few here that are ready to listen. Or that might just want a pat on the head, rather than..." She gives a grim look at the bleating animal. "... blood sacrifices."
no subject
Today, though, she's too caught up in how cool the deinosuchus looks to properly consider the implications of what she's doing. The goat is, understandably, not being very cooperative, and Allura's sensible approach to questioning her motives is enough to give Eiko pause long enough to second guess her actions.
"I guess it doesn't have to be that one. I just think it looks really cool!"
Surf New Turf
So it's kind of surprising to see a little girl just. Trying to lure a goat into the aquatic creature's mouth. She gets the idea, she really does. It just seems the goat's survival instinct may conflict with the goal here. That and she may end up having nightmare all the way to adulthood upon seeing the result.
"Hmm..."
What to do? Try to discourage her? It's a little girl, that'll only fire her up. Scare her? She doesn't want to come off as mean... Maybe just with the truth.
"Why don't you try one of the other creatures? This one doesn't seem like it wants to play along."
no subject
She clearly... hasn't thought this entirely through. The plan seems straightforward enough. Hand over the goat. Giant new croc friend. Logically, she's aware of the goat's role in all of this. She's just actively trying not to think too much about that part of it.
Monika's arrival is both timely and fortunate. The question is enough to have her turning to face the older girl with a frown.
"This one's the coolest! Have you seen the other ones?"
no subject
"That's true, it's really the coolest. Everyone else I've seen is picking it. We're probably gonna have an army of them soon, ahaha!"
She marks a pause. When something is common, it's really not special at all. Well, if your purpose is to blend in though, then that's fine. But is that what this little girl really wants? To just blend in and be an unremarkable rider?
"I'd rather stand out though... It's not as cool when everyone got the same stuff than you." She rose a finger. "So I think I'll go for one of the most unique-looking one."
no subject
Hearing the news that everyone else is going after the same one doesn't make her all that happy, though. Some might say the fact that it's so popular is a good thing. Popularity is supposed to be a good thing, right?
"Is he really that popular?" She hadn't notice anyone else trying to approach the croc, but she also hadn't really been paying that much attention. Wrangling the goat is taking a bit more effort than she'd assumed it would.
Doing what everyone else is doing doesn't seem all that appealing, though.
"Yea... which one were you looking at?"
no subject
"I was thinking about the Mossatees." She refrains from calling the creature adorable. She can tell it's probably not what Eiko is after. "With that sort of garden on their back, it must feel really unique to travel on them."
She gives her a somewhat sad smile.
"But I haven't seen anyone go for them... They probably think flowers are uncool, ahaha."
Arrival
Might as well show up every once and a while, right?
So he sees this brat just jumping along the jellyfish and that shit is dangerous? Like hello? Since he's going to be such a nice and upstanding guy here... Bakugou will create a bridge of ice over the water. ]
Stop your hopping and just use that!
no subject
And then... at loud boy again.]
What's the magic word?
[He doesn't strike her as the type of person to say please after shouting at someone, but stranger things have happened.]
no subject
[ Yeah no. He doesn't even use "please" with his parents or teachers. Or...
His manners aren't quite the best, but his intentions are at least solid here. ]
