[ When her hand slips into his, his fingers do not curl over hers to secure a grasp. Instead, his palm remains beneath, calloused and rough, but the touch feather-soft, lifting-- as if it is not his to touch. ]

...Ohhh, you're calling me graceful.

[Once again, Aerith can't help laughing, because boy, she's had some pretty clumsy moments. She's almost immediately thinking of early on in meeting Cloud, wearing a grand smile.]

Don't be fooled. I've gotten myself into some pretty ungraceful situations.

I have seen not one. [ His hand drops from hers. It moves back to beneath the edge of his dark cloak.

Perhaps, he is no good at this. ]

[Aerith does not, at all, seem displeased by the exchange. On the contrary, she's smiling so hard that it almost hurts.]

Maybe I just don't want you to see me being clumsy. I kind of like that you think of me as graceful. Although, I wonder. Would you like me less if I did accidentally trip over something in front of you? Maybe you'd lose some respect for me...

[luciing]

[ In the same serious tone and the same serious look, albeit, there's something questioningly incredulous about it at the same time: ]

Humans are fallible. A stumble is no great transgression.

[inemeraldfaith]

[She is amused by his response. It turns out that she was probably never worried about him losing respect for her in the first place.]

I wonder, do you feel that way about your own stumbles? I've kind of gotten this impression that you're sort of a perfectionist. Like you have to be better. Am I off?

[luciing]

[ He remains unyielding beneath both her question and gaze. ]

Perfection is that reserved for the gods.

That is not an answer.

[She inches over to him so she can give him an inappropriate bump of her hip. (Not that there's such a thing as an appropriate one, most likely.)]

Do you hold yourself to higher standards than you hold others?

[luciing]

[ He doesn't move from her proximity, but he does seem to steel himself, looking down at her. His tone hardens. ]

I knew it. I knew it! That explains so much about you. I guess you'd know a princess from someone who wasn't one, that. Kind of makes all of your praise of me a little more weighted now.

You make it sound like I didn't believe you to begin with.

[She shakes her head at him slowly.] I only meant that if one of us knows about grace and elegance, it's going to be you and not me. That being said, I'm definitely not graceful all the time.

[luciing]

[ They’ve reached an impasse. ]

[He gives in. She doubts he believes her, but he at least, gives in for the time being.]

Soooooo... a king.

[She's grinning. That's surreal.]

I've only read about kings and princes and things like that, but I have to say that you match up somewhat. Depends on the story, of course. Some of the kings are tyrants. Some of them genuinely love their people. But they all seem to have that... [What's a nice word for 'dated'? Aerith can't think of one.] ...unique way of viewing life and traditions. [There. That's diplomatic.]

[luciing]

[ Pointedly, ] My views are not unique of my era or my station.

[inemeraldfaith]

Well... They're unique to my world, though. And to the other people I know. Consider the following—I've never met a king or a prince, obviously. At least, if I have, I haven't known it.

[She grins as she gives him a look over from head to toe.] What I'm saying is that I'm still curious about you.

That's more like an added bonus, honestly. I've always been curious about you. Mostly because every time I ask you about yourself, you almost never answer. Or you answer in a way that isn't actually an answer at all. It just makes me want to know more.

[luciing]

[ His look can only be described as skeptical. Compared to his usual severe mien, it probably may make him appear younger. ]

You do not readily share things of yourself.

[inemeraldfaith]

You don't ask. I assumed you weren't interested. And I'm actually very open when I talk with you.

[She's laughing all over again because there's irony in him saying such a thing.]

Haven't you ever noticed that I'm usually the one talking and you're usually the one just nodding along, spacing out?

[ He seems unconcerned. And, quite flatly: ]

Neither of us share details of our past, as it is neither of our concerns.

To be fair, you barely talk about anything except when you seem to be berating me for something. I don't think that counts. But you just go on thinking the way you want to.

[She knows she can't push him anymore. She's long since known that. Somnus has made that explicitly clear. So as she really thinks about it, she talks about a lot of nothing with him.]
