TEST DRIVE MEME ⚔️️ 3
![]() Premise ⚔️️ Rules ⚔️️ FAQ ⚔️️ Taken ⚔️️ Reserves ⚔️️ Apply ⚔️️ Locations ⚔️️ Bestiary ⚔️️ Top-Levels Only ⚔️️ ![]() A ⦿ Soaking in Your Arrival
Regardless of what you were in the middle of, you and your familiar have been magically pulled into the world of Avalon just above the Bay's chilly waters. After a brief plunge into the Bay, the rush of water filling your ears and soaking up into every creak and crevice of your body, you may need to cough to clear your airways when you rise above the surface. It's paralyzingly cold for a few seconds before you're approached by the Lady of the Lake beneath the water's surface. She puts a vial of a vibrant, glowing red Everwarm* potion to your character's lips. The icy water doesn't feel so icy once consumed and you'll be able to move your limbs enough to swim to shore on your own. She can't stick around to explain, she's got to get this to all the new arrivals! Many of which you'll see plopping in around you. If you can't swim, a handful of helpful ice turtles will scoop you up from beneath and drop you off at the shore. When not helping people, the turtles are going around and hitting the ice that keeps forming on the surface with their shells to keep the surface open for the falling arrivals or pushing personal items to the beach near the new arrivals they smell like (belong to). If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. If anyone with Animal Magic asks the turtles, they will give the full spiel, but very slowly, and they like to get off topic and gossip about other turtles you've never heard of. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, but if you do fall, be prepared for a mysterious sand hand to reach out of the side of the cliffs to catch you. The hand will pat you atop the head twice before retreating back into the wall. This is the Cliff Beast; despite the name, he is quite friendly. B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot
These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console with nip bottles. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, C ⦿ The Red Spring
If you don't want to relax in the room, try taking a dip in the spring for another chance to meet your fellow travelers. The waters have restorative properties that help horses and travelers recover quickly when drunk. It is known to relieve stress, improve energy levels, and mildly accelerate healing. It may be a little chilly when you get out though, so make sure you don't slip rushing back indoors when you get out! The springs are also home to a large training grounds just outside town limits, where there are teachers who will teach basic magic safety and help you discover what kind of magic you have together with other new arrivals. Try target practice, obstacle courses, meditation circles, and other ways to try to figure out just what you can do... if you didn't already have an accidental discovery on the ride there. ![]() Everyone needs a little fun from time to time; the locals have put together the annual Snow Games. As with all things Avalonians plan, magic plays a part in the competition. There will be three separate tiers for characters to enter. Each Tier will have its predetermined track or ring, set up and ready to go. A ⦿ Foot Races
Along the route, racers can expect to run into minor obstacles such as snow bunnies, puddles that can’t be jumped, a flock of snowbirds giving hassle, trees that upend their own roots and move to confuse the pathway. Whatever the interruption, it will come in the form of either a small creature made of magical snow or some minor hindrance to the path. Competitors will have to use magic to overcome these obstacles. Whatever your magic class, find a way. B ⦿ Sled Races
On the path, obstacles will come in the form of wholly washed out portions of the track that need to be reformed using magic to pass. Use elemental magic to flatten rocky areas or wash away debris. Larger creatures such as snow deer and moose congregate in large groups blocking the path, so an animal magic user could be useful for asking them to move... someone with cognitive magic could try their hand at a little hypnotizing a fellow newcomer with big muscles to move fallen logs for them. Healing mages could easily use buffers to support their fellow magicians with temporarily increased speed or strength. Use light magic to sneak past living obstacles, or dark users can cast a love enchantment and make a love match between two moose even though it's far from spring. There are tons more creative uses of magic to help you get through the obstacles on the sled's pathway. Find a creative way to use magic and get through the obstacle; make sure you are faster than the other guy. C ⦿ Snow Chicken
Just... be wary, these friendly yeti are surprisingly big on hugging as a form of congratulations. It's much more challenging to escape from a yeti's embrace than it is to knock one over. ![]() Trumpets hail an announcement by the town crier in front of the castle. More than a few people pull out their phones to record it and post it to the AOL network for all to see. "Hear ye, hear ye! Our noblest of lords, King Arthur of Camelot, will host a tournament on this January the 20th on castle grounds. All are welcome to participate in competitions to determine those most skilled in both the physical and magical arts. In preparation for the upcoming tournament, we are sending envoys to Celliwig. In Celliwig lies the Magic Mirror of the South, gifted to Camelot by the Fae, and a means to communicate with their royal court at will. It is a vastly important task in your journey to become magicians and to show your good will toward the fairies. Parts of the mirror's frame have been damaged. We will need those brave of soul and pure of heart to retrieve the crystals needed to repair the mirror. Those interested, the party leaves at dawn." A ⦿ Brave of Soul
B ⦿ Pure of Heart
"The pure of heart will form the bridge with a leap of faith." Since everyone has gone as a group, it will be possible to see others walking over the water once one person figures it out. Though the clue may seem challenging, it is quite straight-forward. Characters who are pure of heart will find that if they believe in themselves, they will be able to step off the bridge and hardlight will form beneath their feet to allow them to step over the water. Those with ill intentions or those who are willing to harm others to get their way will slip into the rapid waters and may need to be saved by other characters. At least you're off the bridge, so magic will work to that end. C ⦿ Celliwig, the Splendored Court
The party is led to a hall at the center of the city-- the hall of mirrors. Those who have succeeded in obtaining crystals need to bring them and set them on a table placed before a mirror at the end of the hall, which appears to have a number of empty settings. It's unclear what happened to the mirror previously, but now it's necessary to restore it to garner the favor of the fae. Once crystals have been delivered, people will be free to explore the quiet city, but it seems most of the city is closing shop while the visitors are around. There is a restaurant that will serve visitors food, though all of the dishes are of the molecular gastronomy variety. Alcoholic drinks seem to come in vapor form and flashes of light if ordered, but seem effective nonetheless. The local general store seems to be willing to sell supplies to weary travelers as well, but that's about it. ...That said the inn doesn't seem particularly keen on allowing visitors in strangely, so you're either going to be sleeping on the iridescent streets or camping just outside the city if you prefer the soft grass and the darkness of night. Just be aware, if you leave, you won't be able to get back into this mysterious city so easily. MOD NOTES: • All test drive prompts are open to anyone in the game at any time to create your own logs with, but this post should have top-levels by potential new characters only. Current characters may reply to any threads, but should not top-level comment on this post. • If your application is accepted, you may accept TDM threads as game canon as long as both players consent. Characters may begin threading as soon as their journal is accepted to the communities. • If nothing here tickles your fancy, try one of this month's Quests for your TDM prompt. • Note that the third prompt in this TDM will have consequences on the game's progression. After the application round, a poll will be put up to see how many characters who are in the game, both new and old, are able to obtain the crystals from the Brave of Soul and Pure of Heart prompts. • The first "Arrival" prompts are present on every TDM, but may contain seasonal tweaks for flavor. All other prompts will change monthly. • Questions about this TDM's content? Comment here! If you have a question about the game at-large, please head over to the FAQ. *This Everwarm does not count toward your potion collection for those who wish to take up potion brewing. You must obtain Everwarm from the Elphame Trader's to count. **Jackets come in a variety of neutral colors, enchanted with a fit-adjustment spell that will adjust to your character's size. |

(But he is. He is effected by the cold. He's just not used to having a flesh-and-blood body.)
Somnus angles his head towards her as she posits a question, blinking slowly as water falls from matted bangs over his vision. When he opens his eyes again, the woman still stands before him, soaked through just as he, and looking up at him as if he could give the answers she seeks.
So. This isn't some sort of fever-dream? He realizes, then, that he feels not a sliver of the Crystal's power. That is all he needs to know. ]
Maiden, [ he addresses her thus, then turns his head towards the white cliffs before them. ] attend to your surroundings; we stand not within our realms.
no subject
Wait, did he just call her 'maiden'? She's been called a lot of things, but she's pretty sure that one's a new one to her.
She doesn't have much time to really think on it because the mere motion of his head causes her attention to move in the same direction. Yes. She supposes it's... not. Well. It's not home, that's for certain. Where exactly is she?
And this guy, this... man who's as dampened as she is, obviously isn't a citizen. Unless he enjoys going for icy swims. Somehow she doubts that.]
Aerith. [She corrects him in a very gentle, offhanded manner before she continues.] I guess you're right. Looks like you and I are in the same boat. [Aerith gestures between the two of them thoughtfully.] Does everyone come here the same way or were we just lucky enough to be thrown in the water?
[It's cold. She suppresses a shudder.]
no subject
Not knowing the answer to her question, he refrains from answering it. Instead, he focuses on what is needed in the moment. Angling his head upward, Somnus spots a few structures atop the clips. ]
Yonder caravan. Let us ascend. [ He motions to her, as if doing so would make her follow. ]
no subject
He's old fashioned. Royalty, maybe? Aerith can't really think anyone she's met who was like royalty, really. But he sounds like he comes right out of a book.]
Right!
[Better to sound more optimistic than she feels. But she suspects that'll all turn around when she's a bit warmer. Until then, she'll just occasionally shiver as they make their way up toward the structures.]
Thanks for coming with me. I would have made my way eventually, but everything's always better with company.

Nevertheless, her smile is a bit strained, eyes cautiously glued downwards as she steps with one foot after another. ]
Don't worry, I'll catch up if you want to run ahead!
[ But the encouragements do help even if she's tempted to jump the last few feet and be done with it. What's the worse that could happen? She's sure she can swim if things go wrong, so here goes-
A sprint, a leap, and then she's awkwardly trying to stop herself from crashing straight into Aerith, stumbling into her landing. ]
S-...see, nothing to it!
no subject
No, no. I'm going to wait right here for you.
[And maybe that's for the best because Tifa collides right with her and though Aerith instinctively opens her arms to catch her, it definitely doesn't work out that way. It's a tangle of limbs, a crash down, and altogether laughable.
If she's hurt, she can't feel it. At least not yet. Probably because it's just too comedic.]
Hey, you did it! [Maybe focus on the more important thing at hand, though.] You okay?
no subject
She'll probably be nursing some bruises later, but Tifa manages a small, relieved smile as she brushes the dirt off herself and tries to stand. ]
Parts of me are, though I had a little help nailing the landing.
[ She has one human-sized cushion to thank for that, one she really hopes she didn't crush. ]
How about you? Wait, there's a-
[ Her hands close around a wayward twig, pulling it free from Aerith's hair before tossing it away. ]
There. Do you think you can walk like this?
no subject
When Tifa reaches for her hair, she pauses for just a breath as to not disrupt her and then she finds herself smiling.
In the back of her mind, there's a subtle ache. They'll both probably hurt for a day or so after all of that.]
Thanks. [She tests out her feet before she nods.] Nothing broken here. I think you'll have to collide with me much harder if that's what you were going for. [Aerith is teasing, of course.] What's an adventure without a little danger, right? Really, though, no harm done.

03 (hello, flowerlady!)
This waiting isn't like him. But... without his favored Quirk, and only fairytale words to lean on, wasn't it stranger going on faith? They do say "pure of heart", after all... and it wasn't all that long ago, since he's felt the most rotten. Here and now, a little clouded, he wonders at water's edge or at travelers further along, and this one—cheering him onward—who's crossing as if it's still, says he can, and so he should. Because heroes don't shy from danger.
He pauses, shouts across,]
Just keep moving!
[No need to press her luck!]
♥!
Not necessarily fearless, but with a resolve that is almost something like steel. Objectively, it might be a little impressive. There's almost always something more to someone who seems unfazed by situations like the current.
Invisible bridges don't happen every day.]
Oh, I'm fine!
[But she won't cause him any undue duress and Aerith continues right along across, making an unseeable navigation across the remainder until she comes back to a visible, solid ground. And once she's there, she lifts her right hand and waves it back and forth enthusiastically.]
You're almost there. Don't hesitate. Just keep going! Have faith.
no subject
After several moment's pause, and little in way of other options, he sprints the length forward. He does have faith, but not as much. Warm encouragement counts for something, and it's easier having watched her; fairy magic-ing paths for others. Probably. Him, too, who's pushed from start, still assumes it's all her doing, or invisible stardust blessing.
That bridge of light's beneath him now.
Once he's reached the shore opposite, he's glancing back startled.] I owe you one. [Then, hopeful,] You're a fairy, right?
[Could she lead him to the others?]
no subject
For all she knows, maybe that does happen to someone with doubt as opposed to certainty.
When he successfully crosses, she clasps her hands together, transparently pleased.]
Fairy? [She can't help but laugh.] That's a funny thing to call someone. [Aerith shakes her head. She's been called a lot of things, but that's probably one of the nicer ones since she was young. She's always been different and sometimes, usually, different hasn't necessarily been a good thing.] No, no. I'm nothing like that. Just a person like you and anyone else who's been crossing over.
[Aerith points to her back. Don't fairies usually have wings?] See? Nothing here!

When the woman started lecturing the dragon Pidge felt a smile tug at her lips and she decided to move forward after her own familiar had floated down to perch on her shoulder. ]
Hi, I'm Pidge. Are you new too?
no subject
When Pidge addresses her, she turns, harbouring a smile that often seems to be attached to Aerith in one way or another. She looks between Pidge and her familiar and points to the latter indicatively.]
Aerith— [She means herself.] And yes! Sounds like you are too. And this one here... your little friend. Looks a bit like a pastry. Kind of!
[The friendliest pastry Aerith's ever seen.]
no subject
She reached a hand up to scratch under what she assumed was it's chin, watching the glowing marks under its eyes glow brighter in apparent happiness.
"Nice to meet you Aerith, and yeah, just found myself suddenly taking a bath in an ocean when I wasn't anywhere near one just seconds before. Interesting day to say the least."
no subject
Friendly, so it wouldn't likely bite.
"It's nice to meet you too," she greeted it with a smile before her blue-green gaze found Pidge once more. Nodding in agreement, she continued, "I experienced that too not long ago, but there was a guy who helped me find my way here. It's been a little disorienting, admittedly, but it's nothing we can't figure out. Two heads are better than one, after all. Or four in this case."

It's more than a little surreal.]
At least one of us is confident.
[It isn't the 'pure of heart' part that's giving him trouble - he may not be some storybook hero, but he knows he's a good person. Not flawless, by any means, but he tries his damndest to do right by people, and leave the world a better place than he found it.
No, it's the faith part that's kept him standing on the broken edge of the bridge. It's possible to cross, clearly, she's living proof of that, but every instinct he has tells him that gravity is still in force, that once he steps off, he'll be plunged into icy water for the second time in a handful of days, and this time there aren't any magic rescuers with warming potions or helpful turtles in sight.]
no subject
She watches him curiously, a shift in her weight as she patiently sways. He doesn't sound particularly convinced. There are some who want to do things on their own. There are some who want help and don't want to ask for it. There are some who want help and don't know how to ask for it. Leon can easily fall into any one of these categories and from observation alone, she can't yet determine which it might be.]
Sometimes you just have to have faith.
[After consideration, she decides to approach where he's left himself, back across what appears an empty strip of... nothing transcending the water below. Once she gets within arm's length, she offers to him her right hand.]
Do you want some help? I can help you.
no subject
[He gives her a quick smile, a little frayed around the edges, but holding genuine humour.
He draws a deep breath, and rolls his shoulders as though he can physically discard his doubts, then reaches out to take her hand. It pricks at his ego a little, but this is lightyears outside his wheelhouse, and his stubborn streak hasn't run towards refusing help.]
Thanks. Here goes nothing.
[He takes the first step off the broken edge of the bridge and - doesn't fall. The second step is a little more confident, and the third. He keeps his gaze fixed on Aerith, focusing on the person in front of him to the exclusion of the rapids below. This isn't a Saturday morning cartoon. He's probably not going to make like Wile E. Coyote and drop like a stone if he looks down. But why chance it?]

[ He snapped his head up when he heard the woman from before shouting encouragement, and he managed a bit of a sheepish smile. Well, it could be done, and he knew he had enough confidence to manage it. How bad could it be. ]
[ With a deep breath, he took a step forward, trying very hard not to flinch when he knew his foot was over what was supposed to be air. He forced himself to keep walking as he traversed the air, though it didn't keep his legs from feeling like jelly when he finally got to the other side. ]
Ah... well. I never want to do that again.

A little adventure is good for the heart. At least if you come across another invisible bridge, you'll know how to handle it. Once you've done it, you can always do it again.
[Looking him over, she assessed his condition. Aside from what seemed to be a post-bridge-crossing adrenaline, he seemed all right.]
Everything good? Nothing hurt?

Either way, when she calls out to him, he brightens up almost instantly, picking up the pace as he trots toward her with a smile.]
To be guided by the radiance of such a dazzling star... I'm truly fortunate indeed. To what do I owe this blessing?
[Baldr no.]
no subject
His response, however, flattering as it is makes her laugh.]
I'm just helping those along who might seem as if they need it. [She gestures over to him before she continues.] But to be fair, you don't seem like you fall into that. Even so, everyone needs to feel like they have someone in their corner at some point. Whether they think they do or not.
[It's never easy asking for help or support. Fortunately, Aerith is simply the type of person to offer it unconditionally. For most people, anyway.]
