A ⦿ Soaking in Your Arrival
| |
If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. Those with animal magic may get their info from the mossatees, though may notice that they're really overly friendly and have zero concept of personal boundaries. Everyone may notice they have no concept of personal space, as they will happily run right into someone's belly for a snoot squishing. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, but if you do fall, be prepared for a mysterious sand hand to reach out of the side of the cliffs to catch you. The hand will pat you atop the head twice before retreating back into the wall. This is the Cliff Beast; despite the name, he is quite friendly.
B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot
|
Once everyone is wrangled up to the top of the White Cliffs, the handsome owner of the Rent-a-Ride, Archimedes, will distribute smart phones and a pair of ear buds and tell them to "Check the Shit Box." The "Shit Box" refers to wardrobe more formally known as the Wardrobe of Finding, a hammerspace-like wardrobe that opens to each person's items and pets when the person touches the handle. From there, Archimedes directs everyone to settle in groups into modernized carriages pulled by horses and gives them a basic explanation of why and how they've been brought to Avalon: The rest of the universe is frozen in time and your character has been brought here by a familiar that was able to bond with them. They'll have to learn magic to help save their own world from destruction, but first they've got to get them to Camelot. It is here that you have the first opportunity to decide who they will be in their new home. You'll have about an hour to wander around here, meet and greet, and pet the horses before it's time to go. |
These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console, with a special feature for warm winter drinks like hot apple toddy and butter beer. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, avalononline (AOL), to chat with other characters, watch dumb videos, learn about the world, contact Camelot Support (they'll answer any questions they can for you, from how to use a smart phone to where to find quests and resources to learn more about your magic). Be careful if you decide to use your phones while in the caravan-- if you don't use those earbuds and start forcing everyone to listen to your nonsense, Archimedes may make you walk.
C ⦿ The Red Spring | |
The journey from the White Cliffs to the City of Camelot is a long one, and the first evening you arrive you'll end up spending at the Red Spring, a booming resort town. Newcomers get free inn rooms for their one night stay on the way to Camelot, containing two twin beds, a bathroom, a mini-fridge and microwave, and a TV equipped with a couple of entertaining video games and movies. Don't want to relax in the room? Take a dip in the communal hot spring. The waters have restorative properties that help horses and travelers recover quickly. It is known to relieve stress, improve energy levels, and mildly accelerate healing. It may be a little chilly when you get out though, so make sure you don't slip rushing back indoors when you get out! |
|
|
When everyone arrives it seems like during the siege on Camelot the training grounds were absolutely trashed! |
A ⦿ gArBo HuNgErS | |
| With everyone focusing on recovering Camelot main and the bulk of the resort facilities at the Red Springs, the training grounds at the Red Springs have gone a little neglected.. at least enough to be taken over by a band of local decay sprites. |
What's more, they grow in size each time they eat something new, so some of them are already big enough to swallow an orc! Don't worry, the trash goes into a hammerspace to decay over a long period of time, so if you get swallowed, there's still a chance for someone to get you out... which they can do by fighting the decay sprite. Decay sprites can suck things up similarly to Kirby, though they do not gain your powers, so finding a way to keep your feet on the ground with magic should be your first step. Beware though, defeated sprites will spin in a circle and fall over, and everything they've eaten will spill out onto the ground... so you're going to have to clean it up yourself.
B ⦿ Slightly Shabby | |
The state of Camelot isn't exactly great when everyone arrives. It's been ravaged by siege. Things are broken, scattered, and though many of the buildings are still standing, most people are focused on things like taking care of kids, rebuilding, or rerouting the new arrivals since the inn is not available right now. The castle rooms are already pretty full of people whose homes got trampled during the siege, so new arrivals are going to have to find their own place to live. |
|
kinda clingy feelings toward anyone who lets you out. Though acting on it can be fought with strong enough willpower, it's certainly going to get you and a stranger much closer than you planned a lot faster. It looks like you may have gotten caught up in some kind of dark web experimental product... oops.
|
The start of the month begins with the usual March rituals like the Lesser Banishing of Frost Fairies before flowers start to bloom throughout Avalon. Once things start to get cleaned up, some Camelot citizens think of ways to get Camelot back to its normal glory.
|
A ⦿ Running of the Moon Rabbits
Doing the Lesser Banishing of Frost Fairies often attracts Moon Rabbit kits. These friendly small rabbits do eat a lot though, and it's important right now that the youngin's are nourished without depleting Camelot's food stores. |
|
| |
B ⦿ Eggxacting | |
| With the streets clearer and Camelot finally starting to look more like its former self (albeit a little sparser) a culinary wizard has taken to trying his hand at a kind of magic that should help to quickly decorate the city and encourage floral growth. Using a wild combination of animal magic and green magic, the wizard created a special brand of eggs he's calling Oeufs de fleurs. He's selling them for a low price (hey, he does need to bring in some income to afford his expenses) for everyone and new arrivals get half a dozen OdF eggs for free! Just make sure that you follow the directions and there won't be a problem! 1. Blue eggs should only be thrown at night. More information is available on the chef's Instagram page, of course, but that's all that's included. The further information lets you know that blue eggs are |
photosensitive and will turn into bear firs if thrown during the day, but if used correctly will blossom into moonflowers at night. The white eggs react to the moon and will grow into 60 foot tall trees if you throw them at night... but if you're throwing them during the day, they will become beautiful morning glories that only blossom during the light.

Magnai Oronir FFXIV| Healing + elemental?
[Unlike most new arrivals, Magnai was completely fine not being granted room and board. In fact, he was hardly expecting such, so upon arriving he simply began gathering wood and cloth and went about setting up a small yurt. Simple, and not made exactly as he would like, but it would be easy enough to pick up and go when he decided to move on.
A brief hunt later had him roasting a deer carcass over a fire as he tended to the pelt. Night was approaching, and perhaps the temptation of sharing camp with the intimidating stranger seemed more welcoming that the odd balls being handed out. Besides, he couldn't possibly eat that entire deer himself, right?]
[Training]
[Magnai had listened somewhat to the apparent advent of powers he would have, but it concerned him little. He had his axe and did not feel compelled to take up the inelegant art of throwing fire and ice around like the leader of that Other Tribe which he will not so much as grant a passing thought.
He would, however, have his curiosity sated as to what skills warriors of other realms would have. Surely there must be at least some that would be worthy of respect. So he went to the training fields in search of a worthy opponent, and once there stood and called out to all present.]
Who among you can claim to be a warrior of some skill? Come, let us cross blades so that I may take measure of you and the realms from which you came!
[Quest]
[While he would consider himself above mercenary work, the relative peace left him quite bored, and cleaning and rebuilding were tasks that were beneath him. So he stood beside his tagalong surveying the undead infestation, his nose rankled in disgust from the smell alone.]
Weak, but plentiful. Offensive to the senses as they are, perhaps there shall be some sport in this.
Training!
[ She'd come here to train only to find the place infested by sprites and people at work clearing them out. It was to everyone's benefit to get that straightened up sooner than later, so Sakura jumped in to help. With some elbow grease they'd managed to get it to a functional state.
A normal person would have taken the time to recover after being downed by a nasty contender like the disease she'd had, but Sakura isn't exactly what you'd call a normal person. Besides, who would know their own limits better than a medic? More importantly, still, she needed a distraction and she needed to recondition herself.
Thankfully Sasuke had managed to act quickly enough that getting medical help hadn't been a problem. Now the rest is up to her.
That's how and why she happened to be there when Magnai issued his challenge. Sakura looked back over her shoulder, as did several others. Sakura's expression shifted from skeptical to interested, and turning away from her own task she stepped forward.
Now, she may not look like much at 5'4" and with her attire, but she's not worried about being underestimated if he really is a warrior. ]
If you're looking for a sparring partner, I'm game.

And proceed to do nothing to help.))[While he was remarkably tall, even for his own kind, at just over 7 feet, the Auri women were of a smaller stature than the Hyuran before him. And as one with many sisters, he spent his youth
getting bulliedlearning why one should not underestimate warriors regardless of height.]Good, draw your blade and hold naught back. I would not have it said my victory a fluke.
[He drew his axe and had his coil of chains at the ready, but held his ground to have her go to him instead. His weight was both his best weapon and greatest weakness, outside of brief bursts he could not move very quickly.]
no subject
[ He didn't disappoint in that respect, and Sakura rewarded him by not wasting any time in turn.
At his invitation to draw her weapon, however, she simply took up a ready stance and raised her gloved fists. She'd only arrived with three kunai and lost one shortly after arriving in a flight from that horseman in the woods, and another in the battle with the knights of the Wild Hunt. More were in the works, but seeing as they were a finite resource...
She answered with a quiet smile. ]
I won't be using any blades, and let's see if you can win, first.
[ The pause following her response was only long enough to be certain that he was ready (she didn't want to have her potential win called a fluke either), and then she was closing the distance with rapid speed. A boost from a kinetic spell offering a simulacrum of the speed she could achieve back home, albeit only some of it.
He'd told her not to hold back but she would still go with
a test of his reflexes!a probing strike to start, reinforcing her fists as she struck out with a one-two combo, ready to try to adjust should that axe sing in retaliation. ]no subject
[While movement over long distances were not his forte, his reflexes were sharp, but he also knew when to bait his opponent into close combat. He saw her incoming attack, and aside from moving enough to prevent a hit to anything vital, he allowed her attacks to land. His stamina and fortitude were also points of pride to him, and he gave he could take a few punches for the right opening.
The payoff was that she was in range to become entangled in his chains, so as she landed her hits, he swung not his axe, but the coil of chains. If he could ensnare her, then he could not only keep her within range, but impede her movements making landing a blow a simple matter.]
Come now, surely you can do better!
no subject
So, real fast before I reply: for the sparring match do you have a preference how we play this out? I sometimes do dice rolls (if you want the result to be randomized and then we can just script out the choreography based on the rolls), but I'm also down for just rolling with whatever. I also wanted to run her magic use by you before she gets more serious with it. With her current magic level her fighting style is a little bit like a mix of Lyse's and Yugiri's, is the best way I can put it right now without examples.)
no subject
ANYWAY, I’m honestly cool with whatever. Since it’s just a spar, and Sakura hasn’t called him “little sun” and made him mad enough to go ham, he’ll be willing to back off after a time without a clear winner, especially if things don’t seem to be making much headway on either side. It’s more of a test of “are you worthy of respect” to him.
So feel free to get hot or not hit by whatever. I imagine they’ll both score some blows, but moreso her getting hits on him. He’s a tanky boy, so he’s probably got it in him to handle whatever she throws his way. I imagine given his size and bulk, he’ll have a much more difficult time actually landing hits, but he’s more about wearing her out then going in for his win. Which is also the biggest reason I’m game for just having them decide they’ve had enough and move on. He’s crazy enough to fight Sadu for three days straight, and nobody wants a repeat of that. He can just be her punching bag until she gets tired.))

Re: Sparring: COOL that sounds excellent. I agree with that assessment, just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to be making it feel one sided in any regard. I'll go ahead and hit you up with a reply now!)
no subject
In the meantime, game fucking ON.
The rattle of chains was warning enough, distinctive and hard to miss, but Sakura had no intention of shying away. She had to get close to land a hit, no matter what, and disarming him was unlikely- improbable at the very beginning of this match. She took her chances and scored what victory she could.
She was admittedly surprised by how sturdy he was, as if he'd just... absorbed/i> those two hits. She was very sure they landed, after all.
A quick reaction saw one of Sakura's hands raise to try to catch the chain around one arm rather than her entire body as she moved to leap back a bit, making sure to keep her other arm free if she could. ]
Oh, don't you worry, I'm just getting started! SHANNARO!
[ The exclamation is accompanied by her free fist aiming for the ground at their feet, rather than at Magnai. When her fist connected the ground fractured beneath their feet, broke into chunks with enough force to hopefully push a tactical retreat but not small enough to cause any rolled ankles or broken bones. ]
no subject
That was more or less the point with a large axe though. He’d hit something eventually, he just had to bite his time and conserve energy.]
Sorry for the delay!
She manages to turn at the last moment, change the angle of the point of contact so the blade doesn't cut through anything important. She blames herself for not mastering her skills better. She's still not close to where she was back home with chakra.
The red of her blouse parts in a thin line and darkens where the blade made contact, but if she's in pain it doesn't show on her face as she seeks to shake the chain loose and claim a bit of distance after those first two exchanges.
At least he doesn't appear to use poison. Still, time to reconsider. Maybe she could turn the chains against him and draw him into her? No, that would be giving him a free opening, if she could even actually budge him by force. Her best bet was probably speed.
Sakura smirks a little and straightens, invitingly. ]
eh it's a TDM, it's for funsies I'm not exactly fast with it either
You shall have to work harder than that to best me. Hold back at your own risk, for I shall not insult you with naught less than my best.
[He rolls his shoulders a bit to remain loose, but then takes up a more combat ready stance. Once more waiting for her to come to him.]
lmao Oh it happens to me all the time. It's a rather embarrassing problem.
[ She won't give excuses, that she's reliant on a source that no longer exists in any tangible way, or that her own newfound magical limits have put severe limitations on what she can do. What would be the point? It would just be whining. No, but holding back is the last thing on her mind and it's all she can do to keep her frustration over her dampened strength and speed.
Frustration will only trip her up, though, so. Speed it is. She should at LEAST be able to manage enough, even at a fraction of her speed at home, to keep even with him.
After deliberating for a bit she makes her move again, this time charging in and navigating the terrain for a series of quick blows, aiming for strategic points- vital points if she can. No deadly force, but enough to incapacitate. ]
Training/Wildcard
It's during one of the dances where she supplements her performance with the aid of her familiars and the magic around them that she hears the man's call, and she blinks and pauses, bowing to those watching her demonstration, before turning to address him. ]
... but which realm do you come from, my Lord?
[ Why is he taking measure of them, when there are so many places they all have been brought here from? ]
no subject
I am Magnai the Elder, Khan or the Oronir, and I hail from the Azim Steppes. As blessed children of my homelands namesake I would test my blade against those of your warriors!
[Since surely that is how it works here. He must gauge how worthy those of other worlds are of his respect.]
no subject
[ She gives him a small bow, and the fox beside her sneezes, while the phoenix simply settles on her shoulder, watching him curiously. ]
Did you arrive alone, my Lord? Is there some way you'd preferred to be addressed?
no subject
You are a leader then, are you not? Draw your steel and fight me yourself.
Then we shall see who shall address who as what.
no subject
I fear you'll be terribly disappointed then. I cannot fight at all. At least, not in a way that would be fitting for a warrior of your stature.
[ She doesn't look like she could lift anything heavy, for that matter. ]
... unless you can match me in dance. That, I imagine, may prove to be a challenge.
[ She can say that with a bit of pride. ]
no subject
or was looking at the hideous effigy of those malformed little fishmen. This woman's logic did not sit well with him at all, it simply made no sense! Would that there was a leader so weak within his reach, he would slay them and claim their land and warrior without a second thought.]What use is a leader that cannot fight? Has no one issued a challenge to your rule?
no subject
[ She doesn't look bothered at all- what a curious scaled man he is. ]
Do you not have those among you who look after those who protect your home, my Lord? Those who look after family and home, and ensure they have warmth to return to?
Slightly Shabby
He's about to keep moving when the smell of cooking meat slams into him, and...damn it. With a quick glance down at the single fish he caught, Sasuke weighs his options.
Hunger wins out in the end, so with a frustrated sigh, he drops down from the trees and approaches the camp. ]
Hey you.
no subject
Aye.
[Stunning conversationalists, the two of them.]
no subject
Do you need any traps?
[ Sasuke has made sure the woods surrounding his own campsite is full of them, and it's the only thing he can think to offer for a trade. ]
no subject
So, just as to-the-point he responds, with his own perpetual scowl.]
I would see to their quality before making a decision.
