TEST DRIVE MEME ⚔️️ 4
![]() Premise ⚔️️ Rules ⚔️️ FAQ ⚔️️ Taken ⚔️️ Reserves ⚔️️ Apply ⚔️️ Locations ⚔️️ Bestiary ⚔️️ Top-Levels Only ⚔️️ ![]() A ⦿ Soaking in Your Arrival
Regardless of what you were in the middle of, you and your familiar have been magically pulled into the world of Avalon just above the Bay's chilly waters. After a brief plunge into the Bay, the rush of water filling your ears and soaking up into every creak and crevice of your body, you may need to cough to clear your airways when you rise above the surface. It's paralyzingly cold for a few seconds before you're approached by the Lady of the Lake beneath the water's surface. She puts a vial of a vibrant, glowing red Everwarm* potion to your character's lips. The icy water doesn't feel so icy once consumed and you'll be able to move your limbs enough to swim to shore on your own. She can't stick around to explain, she's got to get this to all the new arrivals! Many of which you'll see plopping in around you. If you can't swim, a handful of helpful ice turtles will scoop you up from beneath and drop you off at the shore. It's a fast process, as they no longer have to collect possessions and pets from drowning in the waters, so they're only needing to go around hitting the ice that keeps forming on the surface with their shells to keep the surface open for the falling arrivals. If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. If anyone with Animal Magic asks the turtles, they will give the full spiel, but very slowly, and they like to get off topic and gossip about other turtles you've never heard of. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, but if you do fall, be prepared for a mysterious sand hand to reach out of the side of the cliffs to catch you. The hand will pat you atop the head twice before retreating back into the wall. This is the Cliff Beast; despite the name, he is quite friendly. B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot
These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console with nip bottles. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, C ⦿ The Red Spring
If you don't want to relax in the room, try taking a dip in the spring for another chance to meet your fellow travelers. The waters have restorative properties that help horses and travelers recover quickly when drunk. It is known to relieve stress, improve energy levels, and mildly accelerate healing. It may be a little chilly when you get out though, so make sure you don't slip rushing back indoors when you get out! The springs are also home to a large training grounds just outside town limits, where there are teachers who will teach basic magic safety and help you discover what kind of magic you have together with other new arrivals. Try target practice, obstacle courses, meditation circles, and other ways to try to figure out just what you can do... if you didn't already have an accidental discovery on the ride there. ![]() As the snows give way to rain and the cold persists across Avalon, it may seem as if some of the local businesses are suddenly short-staffed. A favorite spot might have shorter hours, longer wait times. Whatever it is, it seems that there are fewer Avalonians as the days go on. It is not long before there are signs posted outside local businesses and every clinic, there is an illness striking the populace and adventurers seem to be immune. While the healers can cure this malady, they are short on supplies and some of them are not easy to obtain. All are urged to take up a task and gather these ingredients. Anyone who does obtain one or more of the required ingredients will be given a Fairy-blessed Tincture of Wellbeing from one of the faeries who stayed behind after the tournament. It is said to bring healing no matter where you are when you sprinkle it on the ground in front of you. (Note: The tincture will teleport the nearest healing mage to your location. This information is not included with the tincture... surprise!) A ⦿ Ingredient One: A Can of Sprite
B ⦿ Ingredient Two: Deez Nuts
C ⦿ Ingredient Three: Wait, isn't that a Pokémon?
Make sure to complete all your tasks, though, try not to be too angry when once their yard and home are spotless the Hill Troll produces a satchel of poliwag grass straight from their cupboard. They didn’t say you had to go on the trip with them and they will need to replenish their supply after, so they're not apologizing for anything. ![]() A video is sent to everyone's devices, a strong magic spell making certain that it opens. Morganna's face appears. Morganna, after all, is to be listened to when she speaks. She seems to be looking at her nails as the recording starts, not looking at her captive audience. |
| ”"As infamous as Arthur and Merlin are, there are many magics they are unfamiliar with. They live in the realm of basic magics, the ones you all have touched and trifled with. But there are skills you will need in the future that require something a little stronger. Now if you came to me seeking spells, I would ask a fair price, dears... but it is my universe you are all saving too, so I will offer you a taste." She finally looks directly into the screen. Despite that it's just a recording, it looks as if she's looking directly into your soul. She sees you even without you responding. Her lips curl up in a little smile, friendly and yet mischievious. "Magic is stronger when more than one person performs it. Where you would be able to toss fire, you could create a fire tornado or rip the earth until it spits the fires of hell up as lava. To perform this kind of magic, you must be entirely in sync with your partners. Of one mind, of one movement. Open the attachment and it will place a memory of how to perform Synchronic Magic with a partner into your mind. It will still take practice, of course. Baby steps." |
| Magic-infused technology is a hell of a thing-- those who listen after the video ends and open up the attachment will find themselves rapidly flooded with what amounts to an instructional video and a visual sample of witches moving exactly in sync. After a little finger painting on each other's face and collar bones and some deep meditation while performing the spell, the caster of the spell will have complete control over the movements of the person the spell is cast upon. For the duration of the spell, the person who the spell was cast upon will mentally reside in the caster's head outside of their body. Their body will do anything the caster's does. For this particular version of the spell to work, it requires the consent of the person it's being cast upon, though there are other forms of the spell that do not that are not. With that knowledge, get practicing. A ⦿ We Succeed Together
B ⦿ We Fail Apart
C ⦿ Loss and Gain
After the magic is done, at the center of the tented area, everyone is invited to gather around a huge, prismatic bonfire taking place in the center of the park that the tents had been set up in. The bonfire is filled with flames of all colors, like a prism reflecting light and warmth, and acts as a beacon for casters' shadows to find their owners and reconnect with them. It also is enchanted to encourage affectionate feelings. This may inspire people to be more... touch-friendly than normal, wanting to hug and hold onto or simple be shoulder-to-shoulder with the people around them. These feelings can easily be fought even if they're present, but fulfilling them will help to eliminate the sense of loss from the synchronic spell ending. At the end of the night, little rainbow fireflies will begin to fly away from the flames, having been hatched within them, and fly off into the night as the flames turn to embers, and then to charcoal. It is said that if you catch a rainbow firefly, you can make a wish on it, and when let go they will take those wishes to the heavens with them. Some wishes may actually be granted, so if your character has a wish, submit it here. MOD NOTES: • All test drive prompts are open to anyone in the game at any time to create your own logs with, but this post should have top-levels by potential new characters only. Current characters may reply to any threads, but should not top-level comment on this post. • If your application is accepted, you may accept TDM threads as game canon as long as both players consent. Characters may begin threading as soon as their journal is accepted to the communities. • If nothing here tickles your fancy, try one of this month's Quests for your TDM prompt. • The first "Arrival" prompts are present on every TDM, but contain seasonal tweaks for flavor. All other prompts will change monthly. (This month, please check updated method of inventory collection at the Rent-a-Ride and the "February Special" rooms at the Red Spring.) • The Shadow Dance Ritual is a form of advanced dark magic; this means that yes, after significant practice, a dark magic user may be able to do this on their own with only their own shadow. Even if your character isn't a dark mage, they can do a ritual to perform out-of-discipline magic. More information on rituals and how to unlock them will come in the future! • Please comment with wishes regardless of new/current member status if you want to participate! :) • Questions about this TDM's content? Comment here! If you have a question about the game at-large, please head over to the FAQ. *This Everwarm does not count toward your potion collection for those who wish to take up potion brewing. You must obtain Everwarm from the Elphame Trader's to count. **Jackets come in a variety of neutral colors, enchanted with a fit-adjustment spell that will adjust to your character's size. |

Xiao | Genshin Impact
[ It's not necessarily the explanation that has Xiao narrowing his gaze somewhat. Hearing about magical bonds with familiars and being pulled into a new land with new rules isn't the best news that he could hear, but magic is magic. There are plenty of things that Xiao doesn't know about his own world. All one has to do is take a look inside a Temple or Domain and realize that there is more to the world than what people will ever be able to discover. It's the fact that every other world is frozen in time that makes him pause. It would take a considerable amount of power to be able to accomplish such a feat.
In the end, however, those are merely details. It only explains how they have gotten to this point. There is little reason to be upset, at least to the Yaksha, since it isn't as though they can change it. They can, however, do something about it. Haven't they already been told how they can return? All they need to do is save this world. So that is direct enough for Xiao to simply accept what must be done.
So what is really bothering him? That would be the smartphone and earbuds. Such things do not exist in Liyue! So Xiao is holding the items this way and that. Looking and poking at them. It's pretty clear that he doesn't know what they are for nor how to use them. ]
( Pokemon? )
[ Xiao is hardly what one would call an errand boy. He tends to avoid contact with people if possible. For the moment, he is only "along for the ride," as it were. The Adeptus is not going to engage with the Trolls and doesn't talk to them unless spoken to first. If anything he tries to stay on the fringes of the group tasked to bring back the grass, as if waiting for something to go wrong and to rush in if needed.
But it's when he notices that people are simply doing chores while the Trolls seem to do nothing at all that he becomes suspicious. Perhaps these people simply don't realize they are being used? ]
You do realize that you are being taken advantage of in this situation, correct?
[ At least this is how he is going to approach the person closed to where he had been standing and watching. He doesn't really like the idea of these Trolls getting people to do their dirty work - literally - for them. ]
( Sync or Swim )
[ It's an odd thing to not be "blessed" with the power of Anemo. Xiao has had his powers and abilities for ages. So upon hearing that there is a way to be able to do more than basic magics, Xiao does linger around the tents to overhear and even try to see what is being done. At least until he learns what all is required. Allowing someone into his head? Hmm. No. He'll pass on that thank you. Xiao most certainly doesn't have it in him to allow anyone direct control of his actions.
Never again. Thus he will have to pass on this little activity and make an attempt to duck out and get away.Unless... Someone wants to try to stop him? Or convince him... ]
(ooc note: this can lead to either a failure or a success! doesn't matter to me either way! )
( Fireflies )
[ Normally Xiao does not really act on the longing in his person to actually engage in any bonding activities or lingering where people are. He knows what he is and has made peace with that in his own way. However, even the Yaksha is drawn to the mesmerizing flames that seem to change color every couple of moments. Now he isn't actually sitting with people. Oh no. He can be found leaning against one of the poles holding the tent upright. This is about as close as he'll allow for himself.
Then the fireflies scatter and begin to fly around. Xiao can see many people excitedly jumping up and trying to catch one. Others seem to want to run around and chase the little glowing bugs. He doesn't do any of these things of course. Rather he extends his hand and one lone little firefly seems to settle there. For the time being. ]
Even here there are those who do not value patience.
( Wildcard )
[ You know what to do. Hit me with anything and I'll roll with it. Or poke me at jardaan @ plurk ]
Fireflies
[Perhaps it's thanks to the extra magic here, but he can feel some of that longing himself. To be with his friends. To be back in Cosmo Canyon. To be with his grandfather. It's enough to make him lay down on the outskirts of the bonfire crowd, watching from a distance.]
[He does notice Xiao, but hasn't commented yet. But when the fireflies start flying around, and the people begin chasing them, he can't help but be intrigued. He heard talk of making wishes upon caught fireflies as well. How curious... His ears flick, and his tail twitches as an eagerness to chase them settles in his own bones. But he holds out for now; he wants to remain composed, after all.]
[He does notice when Xiao speaks up, and he watches the firefly settle on the other's hand. Red tilts his head for a moment.]
Is it so bad to want to chase wishes?
no subject
[ A speaking giant cat isn't really a concern for Xiao. Most of the Adepti of Liyue have decided to shed human form and take on that of various wildlife.
The question is a legitimate one. For the answer to this one determines the other one. ]

Pokemons
[Normally when sent on a ~mystical quest~ to retrieve some ~mystical shit~, Zelgadis ends up facing horrible monsters or dealing with an angry sorcerous with an itchy Fireball finger. Cleaning some troll's dusty-ass house is far from the most dangerous or even most annoying thing he's ever had to do to complete a job. So, he's here beating the dust out of a rug with a broom, not being stabbed by demons or blown up by his companions.]
no subject
Then why bother? Chances are you could obtain the grass faster simply going out and searching for it.
no subject
Maybe so, but I've already started, and I don't like to leave a job half finished. Besides, I haven't been blown up yet, and I'm kind of okay with that.

caravan
Imagine the surprise on his face when he sees the Yaksha boy from Liyue instead. Venti stares for a brief moment before he simply marches right up behind Xiao and pokes him three times in the shoulder.]
Don't tell me whatever force that brought me here is also pilfering people from Liyue?
no subject
Only to pause for a moment. Of course he'd recognize those features. How could he not? ]
Oh.
[ Very eloquent. Yet Xiao does take the moment to lower his spear. ]
Apparently it would be so.
no subject
[Wow, that is one pointy stick up in his face. Venti barely even moves and lets the sharp tip get awfully close to his nose. Not even a single flinch, here.]
Oh, indeed!
[Put your pointy stick away, Xiao.]

but. well. that's whatever. what's actually interesting is the young man who's been staring at him the entire time. whatever his deal is... felix is a little irritated.
just a little. )
Yeah, but if it means we get what we came here for, then I don't see the problem.
( except for the problem of SOMEONE not helping!!! )
no subject
At this rate, wouldn't it be just as fast to go searching on your own?
[ How hard could it be to find a patch of grass that is different from others? ]
no subject
Even with a description, it'd be hard to find if it's well hidden. Or if it's in a place that only they know.
( felix lowers his sword, taking a moment to wipe some of the dust and debris off of it. )
There could be a ton of varieties of grasses here, and have you even spoken to those trolls? They're all incredibly moody.

fireflies
Don't you know what they say? Good things come to those who don't wait around. I don't blame them for wanting to chase their dreams.
no subject
[ Though there are others that claim the opposite is true, yes. ]
Now I don't recall stating that they shouldn't. However there is also value in patience.
[ As he opens up his other hand to reveal yet another bug! ]
They may allow for a wish to come to fruition, but they are still a creature driven by instinct. Running and chasing only encourages them to try to get away.
no subject
Bennett stands there, watching the fireflies illuminate the sky. It was definitely a sight to behold, one he didn't mind waiting to appreciate for just a moment longer.]
You might be right about that, but... If it gets away from you? That just means you get to enjoy chasing it just a little bit longer.
[Bennett tries now to reach out and grab a firefly. But a pebble underneath his boot causes him to slide and miss his mark. Oops. But he doesn't seem bothered. That's just a teensy bit of bad luck, after all.]

I mean, sure it's definitely likely. But I mean, come on. This is easy compared to what we could be doing. I'll take chores over something way more dangerous any day.
no subject
[ Once more Xiao supposes that there are some that find these chores relaxing. He's seen many throughout the countryside of Liyue enjoy their day to day tasks. Singing and carrying on while they are at it to boot. ]
Even if, in the end, they are simply using you?

Firefiles
[Diluc's voice cuts through the quiet air around Xiao. He's been watching things at a distance before deciding to get a closer look or just move along. Xiao just happens to be along the way. He's been also keeping an eye the Yaksha for a little while now. Unlike back home, he doesn't have a network of information at his finger tips but he knows a bit of heresay about Xiao from his travels. Xiao's clothing is a good give away that he's from Liyue too.
Diluc comes to a stop a few feet from Xiao, his burning eyes seeming to linger on the firefly on Xiao's hand rather than Xiao himself.]
There are people like that every where...even across worlds. I take it you have not been here long either?
[Its a guess really]
no subject
[ Just like Diluc can notice the attire of someone from Liyue, Xiao knows what the clothing of the country of wind is like as well. That and this man's Vision is rather out in the open for all to see, isn't it? It hasn't escaped him that this redhead has been watching him either. He has been curious as to why, considering Xiao isn't all that eye-catching in his opinion. Perhaps it has to do with the simple fact that they both hail from the same world? ]
I am familiar enough with mortals to see it wherever I am.
[ Mondstadt. Liyue. Here. What does it matter? The nature of men itself doesn't change that much from place to place. There are some similarities no matter where one travels to. ]
Your assumption, on the other hand, is correct.
[ Are all of them new? ]
Wildcard

When he saw Koromaru walking up and sniffing this new stranger, Ken couldn’t help but smile at him.]

caravan!
Zhongli's a man that prefers to observe nowadays, and while the chill upon the cliff is a bit unpleasant, he knows he'll live through it. The earthen brown cloak will do well enough until he's satisfied all arrivals upon the cliff reach the transportation given before he finally steps into one of the caravans. Zhongli watches another group ascend the cliff, watches them make their way to a caravan, and it's then that a figure catches his eye, fiddling with something or other in their hands.
His figure is familiar, yet strange in this land, surrounded by strangers.
This land takes Gods, so of course even the Yaksha would not be safe. Zhongli is quiet as he approaches before speaking up. ]
Are you having difficulty, Xiao?
no subject
That is what is somewhat uncomfortable for Xiao.
It is impossible for him not to notice every shift of movement in the area, even if Xiao appears to not be paying attention. That's why his head jerks up at the sound of a voice that is quite familiar to him. Then again, it is not really a voice that he'd soon forget now is it? That's why when he looks up, there is a look of surprise on his features. ]
