Character Name: Toshirou Hijikata
Canon: Gintama

Info: Hijikata is the vice-commander of the Shinsengumi, the shogunate's special police force in Edo. Gintama is set in 19th century Japan, but aliens (collectively called Amanto) conquered Earth, so there's advanced technology and space travel. Genre-wise it's a mix of comedy and action (there are many silly episodes that parody other Shounen Jump series and such, but also serious arcs that can get very tense and dramatic). For more details on Hijikata I have my Prismatica application here. I always feel like I need to mention his mayonnaise addiction because it's so outrageous that it can really blindside people!

Since my Hijikata spent the better part of last year in

prismatica he comes with some minor changes that mostly relate to how well he handles getting chucked into

isleofavalon. His recollections of Prismatica may well come up in his threads (though chances are he'll keep it to his thoughts, because who would want to spring their odd experiences on an overly sex-friendly neon crystal planet on others?), but by all means feel free to opt out of that (or anything else) in his permissions post!

Oh, also he comes in anime and live-action variants! I generally default to the live-action icons for interactions with live-action characters and use the anime icons for all others, but if you have a different preference don't hesitate to let me know.

Magic & Familiar: Elemental Magic (Fire) & Crow Tengu

Desired CR: I'm up for anything!! Hijikata already made some great connections here that I'm enjoying a lot, and I'm open for any kind of relationships, be it friends or rivals or enemies or lovers or whatever else. What he misses the most is his commander (though he's kind of turned to King Arthur as a stand-in... he certainly is less of a headache to keep in like than Kondou-san) and his men (he doesn't have anyone to order around!!). He also misses the people he really connected with on Prismatica (some of them are here, but were taken from different timelines and don't know anything about all that), so he may get a little nostalgic over that ever so often.

Known Plans: I want to do so many things again this month! Regarding the TDM prompts Hijikata will participate in the Lesser Banishing of the Frost Fairies! He'll have no chill regarding the moon rabbit kits trying to invade his home, so if a stranger wants to help him throw them out and/or perform the ritual with him, please be my guest! I don't know what sort of duel to propose to the fairies yet, but Hijikata likes them (they even gave him a disco ball last month), so he wouldn't want to harm them. Due to questionable events involving dragons back on Prismatica he'll initially want to avoid the Language of Flowers prompt, but it's a dangerous route to the Ash Mountains, so he'll ultimately be willing to accompany someone (and help them attain the flowers beforehand)! Does anyone want to see this chain smoker in a garland? As for the Spiritual Cleansing, he'll avoid the yoga parties like the plague, but I'd love him to drink one of those magical smoothies! Sadly he'll rather volunteer for any kind of danger than for a fruity treat, so it'll take a bit of convincing (or maybe it can be a dare, assuming they figured out the side effects). This also goes for the No Work All Play prompts... this man needs to be forced to have fun, pretty much.

As far as this month's quests go Hijikata will take on the more dangerous ones (and yes, despite being a policeman he's totally going on the dark web): Run Snagglefoot Run to catch the jewel thief, Don't Lose Your Head to smuggle the mystery package into Celliwig (and he may well run the quest haywire because he always wants to get to the bottom of things...), and Greg Gonna Get Ganked to beat the snot out of a goblin.

If you'd like to do any of the above with him let me know and I'll make it a closed prompt for you! If you want to do any other TDM prompt, quest, or whatever else with Hijikata I'll be happy to tag out.

I'm enjoying it too!! I GOT ALL EMOTIONAL... your storytelling is so immersive! But I always care way too much about the NPCs, haha.

Do you already know which sketchy quest you'd like best for these two? I guess catching a thief is pretty ethical, so it'll come down to smuggling a dullahan head (I just know these two would check the package out and pay the price for it) or delivering a beatdown in the name of an unknown quest-giver, which is also shadier than Hijikata can accept!

I haven't given too much thought about the quests yet but I'm leaning towards the dullahan head, because of course they would immediately receive the package and open it and go "hM"

Yeah, that does sound like it'll be a disaster with these nosy bastards... I'll reserve that prompt for Karma (and shoot our kindly mods a few questions along the lines of "What happens if..?" on the quest page).

Just sliding back in here to say that I checked up on the dullahan mythology, and apparently the horse is generally presented as demonic too, so I thought it could have a little supernatural regeneration magic, as a treat (mainly so the horseman can actually ditch the lads and go after his head if he wants to)!

Or Karma and Hijikata can just beat him up and leave him there (yeah, okay, it probably won't be that easy... but who knows, they're in good form!!).

I love a good demon horse, let's take this treat!!

I'd like more CR with Hijikata since I'm really enjoying their current thread! They are bound to bump heads again, but I feel Hijikata could be someone Crow can rely on for advice or talk him out of stupidity ~~At least, try to~~. Crow is more than happy to set Hijikata's soul on fire with more songs!

Plus Crow also has a crow familiar (yatagarasu), so his merge will look similar to Hijikata's.

Yes, they have a cute dynamic!! I'm having fun with them too. Hijikata will certainly try to be a good influence on Crow, but let's face it, he is a short-fused bastard man with some really weird hobbies, so it's doubtful if he'll actually succeed at that. Also I saw you tag Okita up there, and oh man, if Crow gets in the crossfire between these cops it'll be hilariously chaotic.

CROW PALS... the people with crow familiars should open a club, haha. There's got to be at least a handful!

Do you have anything in particular you'd like to do with these two, like a quest (any, not just the dangerous ones) or something from the TDM? Hijikata is pretty much set for the two dark web quests above, but anything else is fair game!

Well, Crow is used to dealing with people with a short fuse ~~He's one of them~~. Although, he's normally yelling and escalating the situation rather than being a mediator. And Crow likes chaos, so this is right up his alley. Although, he has yet to know the magnitude of how you Shinsengumi get down!

Crow would be so ready to start a club! Or rather they would be a murder in Avalon!

I do see that Hijikata has a log up, and I'm eying the Language of flowers prompt! So I'll probably tag into that later tonight. Sadly, I'm not sure if Crow will be helpful or detrimental to Hijikata's cause, but there will certainly be hijinks!

Oh, escalating situations is the Shinsengumi's specialty... well, sometimes they can be badass. It all depends on whether it's a comedic arc or a serious one.

Hello! I'm really enjoying Hijikata and Klaudia in the elevator thread. If you'd like to have them meet up on a real quest, I'd be down! Considering the nature of their first thread, I thought either the Catch a Thief or goblin one might be interesting.

I'm having so much fun with these two as well!! They get hung up on such minor things in a life-or-death situation ("This is a private library!", "You're being indecent, put your clothes back on!"), it cracks me up. I'd love to do the thief quest with Klaudia, I feel like that'll provide plenty of opportunity for them to bicker more but maybe also have some good teamwork! I'll happily make that a closed prompt for her.

This has nothing to do with Avalon, but I also used to play D&D (in person with a local group) before the pandemic. I played a paladin who was a total white knight archetype, but not very bright. It's been good fun!

Klaudia is a poster child for ADHD, so focus on the *correct* topics is not always her strong suit, haha. It doesn't help when someone else is also yelling and being tangential, too.

I'd be down for the catch a thief prompt! Obviously, they're not going to sign up to do it together, but hey. Maybe they'll run into each other and get along long enough to get something accomplished!

And your paladin sounds delightful! I have a elf paladin in another campaign who follows a nature god, so she's basically just a Better Ranger.

Yeah, they really sidetrack and incense each other, it's hilarious! Currently my idea for the prompt is that they both went to the Red Springs on the fastest way (separately) and are now both lurking around in the dark hotel front yard trying to intercept Snagglefoot, and Hijikata will move in on Klaudia because he's not sure who it is, does that work for you? Or would you rather have that the other way around, or have them start out still in Camelot?

Oh swell, that's a neat combination!! It's really such a fun game; it offers so many unique character options beyond the standard archetypes nowadays.

Edit: I posted already because I might not have gotten around to it later when I change devices for work, but I'll happily adjust Klaudia's prompt if you'd prefer something different!
