Name: Kadoc Zemlupus
Canon: Fate/Grand Order
Familiar
Name: Kovalyov
Species: D'yavol Tron (ice hydra)
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Of all the creatures that show up as enemies in Fate/, I wanted one that was native to Kadoc's Russian Lostbelt to represent him, and something that was in no way humanish. At first I was worried about picking something Too Badass (which Kadoc does not deserve, lol) but then I decided it was even funnier to have this incredibly huge badass creature have to be nerfed down to a much smaller animal size. The hydras in canon are absolutely massive, idk an exact size but at least like 50+ feet long, and Kadoc's in Avalon is about the size of a large ball python (most of the time), which he feels is his fault and is a bit guilty for.
Special features: D'yavol Tron has extremely powerful ice breath attacks, and also, its body produces a fermented wine-like liquor. I actually have no idea how that happens (canon doesn't explain) and whether it's possible to harvest the wine without killing the hydra, but either way Kadoc is not exactly eager to try.
How do they communicate?: Only through actions and Significant Looks really, and of course a snake doesn't have much facial expression, lol. So he's pretty opaque. Kadoc feels like they have some understanding anyway, but can't be sure how much that's projection/anthropomorphizing.
Personality: It actually has a very similar personality to Kadoc except with much more confidence. Long-suffering, dry, darkly humorous, protective, caring, but practical.
Relationship with your character: Kadoc feels awkward about his familiar in that he feels responsible for tying a creature to this world that doesn't belong here and forcing it to maintain a human bond and a smaller, weaker form. (He actually doesn't know yet that it can grow back to its usual size in a pinch, like during battle.) So he goes out of his way to try not to call on it or bother it too much, feeling like he's a burden, while his familiar in turn thinks Kadoc is kind of a loser, but in a charming way that needs looking after. It will suddenly show up in his place after some time away, like an outdoor cat or something, and do passive-aggressive snake things to get his attention and drag him away from whatever he's doing to eat or sleep or get the fuck outside. They like each other in a low-key way.
Visuals: The wiki! Warning if you don't like snakes.
Magic
Magic Types: Light(/Light. Lightx2)
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Light is ironic in the sense that Kadoc, who is a pretty dark person, would never peg himself for having "Light Magic," but it's also very suited to him in terms of how it actually works; in canon he is big on subterfuge and maintaining illusions, and he's also very protective, at one point leaping in front of his own Servant to take a magical hit with a shielding spell. So having something he can use to trick people, become invisible (kind of a fraught subject for him lol), and also build hard light constructs for protection was very well suited!
He does not get a secondary magic because part of Kadoc's whole deal in canon is that he's worse at magic than everyone around him, and it's a huge sore point that has informed his entire life. He comes from a weak magical bloodline and is extremely mediocre as a mage, while the rest of his team is full of prodigies with some very godmode powers. In Avalon, where everyone loses their canon powers and starts out on the exact same level, his whole magical experience in comparison to others is totally different, but then when secondary magic types were introduced I thought it'd be funny to make him worse off than everyone else in the game again. I might let him gain one later, I'm undecided.
How does your character cast their magic? Pretty much like in canon; he's not especially flashy and doesn't use any sort of object along with it.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Of course he's bitter that he only gets one type, lol. He's honestly not as pressed about it as he could be, and he finds it darkly funny along with being infuriating; it's not even really a surprise. The fact is that the gap between a person in Avalon with one magic type and a person with two magic types is still MUCH narrower than the gap Kadoc is used to between e.g. himself and the leader of his team, when it comes to magical prowess. For now it just makes him more determined to get REALLY good at Light magic so he can at least kind of keep up. He's not happy about it but he can deal with this for now. As for the type itself, Light is fine by him. He knows it suits him for the same reasons I mentioned.
What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: The idea of having to pick just one or two kinds at all is frustrating to him, because that's not how it works in canon, and he has no real envy of any specific magic type rather than just wishing he weren't stuck with only one. Light would be high on his list if he had to rank the types, though, and if he got a secondary one, he'd probably pick something like Healing that would let him go back to mistreating his body or Kinetic that he could use to augment his strength and speed and senses. Technomancy would also be a good fit.
As far as his familiar goes, there's nothing in particular he'd really feel more comfortable with. Maybe just a wolf?
