Izzy (Little Fires Everywhere)

[personal profile] notwearingthekeds 2021-05-07 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Character
Name: Izzy
Canon: Little Fires Everywhere

Familiar
Name: Horizon
Species: Canary (it's specifically a Red Agate Canary)
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: So a major theme in LFE (book) is a canary cage, it gets looped into the TV series finale but not quite as prevalent as in the book. About if Elena is the bird, or the cage.

In any event, Izzy's item for Mia's art piece is a cardinal feather. I decided to not be as on the nose as a Cardinal, but close enough. (Izzy rescues a Cardinal as a child, and gets in trouble for it with her mother.)
Special features: It'll sing along to Izzy's violin, while it's around for Izzy playing.
How do they communicate?: Izzy gets senses of what Horizon is trying to tell her, but she can't be sure if that's projection or communication. It is fairly intelligent for a bird brain.
Personality: Diva. It wants attention, but often it'll aim for this by trying to be helpful.
Relationship with your character: Izzy gives Horizon its freedom, no tension but the two aren't really close.
Visuals: Clicky

Magic
Magic Types: Kinetic/Elemental (Fire)
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Elemental is due to Izzy setting things on fire as a coping mechanism for all the bullshit Canon gives her. Kinetic is because it felt right giving a teenager with issues poltergeist powers.
How does your character cast their magic? Izzy needs to focus by using music to access her magic, but she mostly controls it through hand gestures and movement (as it's kinetic). But she's still learning so she doesn't do a lot of controlling it yet.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Weird and Cool in equal measure. Having superpowers is always cool, but weird cause this sort of thing shouldn't happen to her.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Izzy would probably pick something illusion magic if she picked herself. And she'd prefer her familiar be huggable like a dog or a wolf. She's still too afraid she'll get a bird killed.

Character
Name: Claude von Riegan
Canon: Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Familiar
Name: Naira
Species: Wyvern
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: She's pretty much a pint-sized version of the wyvern Claude rides into battle in his final class promotion. Taming and learning to ride wyverns is a rite of passage in Claude's homeland, so he has a deep connection to them.
Special features: N/A
How do they communicate?: She can make trilling noises and cries, but she's not large enough to make any deeper noises full-grown wyverns are capable of. If she wants something, she'll nudge Claude with her snout, or fly over to whatever it is that she wants to draw his attention to. Claude's familiar with wyverns enough that, even though she can't talk, he understands her moods and generally what she's trying to communicate.
Personality: She has a sweet and chipper personality. She's very affectionate, likes to play, and is curious about the world around her.
Relationship with your character: Claude named her Naira, an Urdu east of Fodlan name which means "bright, shining star", because of her glittering white scales; most wyverns have dark bronze scales. He dotes on her because she looks so much like the steed he rides into battle. He's already bonded with his familiar and trusts her completely.
Visuals: one, two, three

Magic
Magic Types: Dark & Green
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Dark is his primary, because Claude has always relied on schemes, cunning and subterfuge to get the upper hand over brute strength, so a less powerful magic that requires more creative thinking and which has more indirect effects seems his speed. He also has a tendency for people to mistrust his intentions because of his scheming nature, so dark magic would add to that image. His secondary magic is green because he has a deep spiritual reverence for nature in canon. He likes to experiment with plants and mushrooms that he can convert to poisons, so being able to grow his own plants would also be helpful.
How does your character cast their magic? For both dark and green magic, he has to be touching his target or very close to it in order to channel his magic.
How does your character feel about their magic?: He's not very confident in magic in general, as it was never his strong suit back at the Officer's Academy or after. It's already saved his life in Avalon, however, so he intends to keep practising it, as he feels it could give him an edge over his enemies.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: He wouldn't change anything.
Anything else?: N/A

Character
Name: Ledo
Canon: Suisei no Gargantia

Familiar
Name: ???
Species: Hideauze

Why did you pick this familiar for your character?:
  • Hideauze are the creatures Ledo is always big mad about because it's what his super militarised space society is fighting a forever war to eradicate from the universe.
  • So naturally, I had to make one his familiar to make him deal with it, since in canon his hate and inability to let go of his mission is problematic.
Special features:
  • It's a giant floating disco ammonite?
  • Or a tiny floating disco ammonite!
  • It appears in different sizes all the time depending on the situation.
  • Also canonically it shimmers and glows and sparkles so despite being KINDA SCARY AF they're actually really pretty?
How do they communicate?:
  • So far it hasn't really communicated with others but it's unlikely that it will speak since Ledo already has a companion who talks in Chamber.
  • However, it will use gestures and has many tentacles to gesture with and can understand language just fine so if it had to communicate it could find a way!
Personality:
  • It's mostly inquisitive and protective.
  • It also likes to play around, like when it floats around just outside Ledo's view but where other people can see it.
  • Gets pretty creative about how it's protective too since on one occasion it outright just grabbed him and when he was in the forest it flew around and drew his fire towards things that were actually trying to eat him.
  • It's just about in every way not how they behave if you run into one out in space, but he don't care at this point.
Relationship with your character:
  • There is absolutely friction because an ingrained lifelong hatred and fear of something doesn't go away all at once!
  • He tries to shoot at it whenever he can given the chance, or at least threatens to since he's been told to you know... maybe don't shoot your connection to this world for your own good.
  • It frustrates him entirely that it seems to be playing around and messing with him but won't just fight.
  • He's struggling to figure out how to feel about the fact that he's been saved or helped a few times by the enemy.
Visuals: here!

Magic
Magic Types: Kinetic (Primary) & Technomancy (Secondary)

Why did you pick these types for your character?:
  • Ledo already has a lot of things going on and then adding magic to it is just craziness, so I chose types of magic that he would have an easier time grasping with his existing knowledge.
  • Kinetic magic actually has similarities to how piloting operates, in terms of "thinking" something and having it happen since piloting involves a neural link.
  • Once he figures out how to do it, making himself faster or stronger will probably feel really familiar.
  • It's a similar deal with technomancy and having it be pretty similar to something he understands with how interfacing with tech works in his world, so being able to control or exert will over technology is pretty normal! Doing it magically though it's just weird.
  • At least if he has a basic understanding he can, down the road, learn how to do more that requires more creativity (because right now he is not creative at all).
How does your character cast their magic?
  • He will probably be more flashy about it than he means to be.
  • I like the idea that his magic is pretty raw and unpolished and in particular sort of bypasses his mental and emotional control/conditioning.
  • When he gets very emotional in canon he tends to have big reactions (especially compared to how he normally is), so in my mind, his magic ties into that — for better or worse.
  • Better, because it'd probably be bursty and strong in a pinch but worse because he can't control it well!
How does your character feel about their magic?:
  • At this point he's still sort of confused and vaguely in denial about it because he hasn't really tried in a meaningful way.
  • He's beginning to realise that he's probably going to need a teacher but is also doing a Concern that they're gonna tell him to make nice with his familiar and he's not sure he can.
  • He'll probably change his mind once he realises he can do and will appreciate the potential combat benefits of getting gud.
What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?:
  • If different from what they got! Literally anything that isn't a Hideauze!
  • He's never really seen animals so he wouldn't have anything to refer to necessarily as a choice so it'd be difficult to specify but he'd probably be thrilled by anything that isn't a mortal enemy. Why can't he just be bonded to his robot like he always has been, he wonders.
  • Magically, he might also be curious about light magic just because he'd wonder if he could learn how to focus it to shoot beam lasers which is something else he already understands.
Anything else?:

notquitetamed: (Monstrum form 007)

[personal profile] notquitetamed 2021-05-08 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Character
Name: Hawk
Canon: Ys IX: Monstrum Nox

Familiar
Name: That stupid bird (Hawk hasn't actually named it, this is just how he refers to it. The familiar is male though)
Species: Black feathered hawk spirit
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Because if Hawk had a fully animal form it would be just like his familiar. Seriously, Hawk's wings match his familiar's exactly.
Special features: He actually has some ability to influence Hawk, but usually in very subtle ways. Doesn't use this often but would if needed to prevent Hawk from getting too overly self-destructive but in the future it may do this to mess with him if he feels Hawk needs to actually talk about himself. He's also aware of Hawk's mental/emotional state because being bound to someone who is quite capable of going to really bad places mentally needs something to keep an eye on him. Otherwise he's just a normal bird with normal bird type abilities.
How do they communicate?: While he has yet to so far in any threads, he can communicate with Hawk and others via telepathy. About the only time he would communicate with words that way is if Hawk is being a reckless dumbass and actually needs help.
Personality: He's very solitary and tends to not be around Hawk all that much. The two of them are very similar in personality. When it is around, it's very fond of perching on Hawk's head because it pisses him off.
Relationship with your character: They don't get along very well at all, as evidenced by the lack of name and reference to his familiar being "That Stupid Bird"
Visuals: Here

Magic
Magic Types: Elemental and Kinetic
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Elemental because most of Hawk's skills in canon have wind associated with them. Kinetic because of flight to go with his wings.
How does your character cast their magic? Very subtle. He's the sort to just think of what he wants and it happens. The most that may indicate what he's doing is that when he uses flight his wings do come out and he also may use motions with his hands (or swords if he's holding them).
How does your character feel about their magic?: Hawk absolutely loves both his magic types and would never ever change them willingly.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Only change he'd make is a less annoying familiar. He loves his magic types.

Character
Name: Adelle Ein
Canon: Bravely Default II

Familiar
Name: Edea
Species: Wiki-Wiki
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: My first thought was a dragon, since Bravely Default II has a couple talking dragons, and one is tiny. However, that was full... and that ended up being a blessing, since it gave me the idea to do a Wiki-Wiki! This is a round, flightless bird with googly eyes.

It's the Metal Slime of BD2 -- loads of XP, money, and Job Points, but they're super hard to hurt and run away a lot.

The name, as it happens, is one Adelle picked "at random." OOCly, that's a Bravely Default I character that has a similar party role to Adelle, and it was basically just a funny little reference.
Special features: LOOK HOW STUPID IT LOOKS. I love it more than anything.
How do they communicate?: Poorly. Mostly in dreams and occasional empathic flashes of what it wants her to do and remember. Sometimes, Edea runs away from Adelle instead of doing other things.
Personality: Honestly, I go for "weird" and "inscrutable," and what sounds fun in the moment; I kind of don't know her personality, and that's part of the fun of writing the familiar.
Relationship with your character: There's some friction. Adelle doesn't understand them so well. Something to play with!

Visuals:

Worth sharing twice.

Magic
Magic Types: Kinetic and Light
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I wanted Adelle to be able to fly. Also, the Monk ability "Pressure Point" was my workhorse for like half the game; I had Adelle do a similar thing with firing kinetic blasts.

Light was on a whim, mostly; I liked the idea of Adelle eventually doing barriers and illusions. Also so she can sparkle in an oh-so-lovely way.
How does your character cast their magic? It's not terribly flashy; she does a lot of hand motions. Sometimes, feet motions for flying. She does tend to produce a lot of light.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Adelle loves it. Flying is fun for gher.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Adelle might have swapped Light for Elemental.
Anything else?: Not today!
mayoninofukucho: (Familiar Fusion)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2021-05-08 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Character
Name: Toshirou (or Toshiro or Toushiro or Toushirou) Hijikata (I went with Toshirou because the historical person's name is transcribed as Toshizō/Toshizou)
Canon: Gintama

Familiar
Name: Arashi
Species: Crow Tengu
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Gintama has a youkai merchandise line in which Hijikata is a crow tengu! This idea spawned a whole AU in the fandom; there's a lot of really nice fanart. I thought making his familiar fusion look like that would be a neat tie-in/reference.
Special features: Wind Magic
How do they communicate?: Arashi can talk just like a person (in Japanese, but I reckon it'll get magically translated into any other language like everyone else's speech).
Personality: He is serious, aloof, reserved, and easily flustered.
Relationship with your character: He only checked on Hijikata immediately after his arrival and during the flood last month, and Hijikata only calls for Arashi when he sincerely is in a pinch and needs air support. Arashi isn't impressed with humans as a whole; meanwhile Hijikata feels a little ditched/snubbed, all the more when he sees other off-worlders with cute, loyal, affectionate familiars. Their relationship recently worsened when Arashi enlisted the help of others to resolve the magic constipation wish-gone-wrong condition Hijikata was waffling to resolve on his own, but ultimately Hijikata understands that Arashi acted out of concern.
Visuals: This classic depiction honestly captures it pretty well! Arashi is quite tall too, about 180 cm (190 cm with his stilt-like wooden shoes).

Magic
Magic Types: Elemental (Fire) & Death
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Hijikata is a Prismatica CRAU. On Prismatica off-worlders were "blessed" by one of three moons (Sanguis, Cordis, and Iris) and accordingly given access to one type of elemental magic. As a Sanguis Hijikata received fire magic. I thought it would be nice to give him something he's already familiar with. Sadly he hasn't bothered to experiment with any other elements besides so far (the fire lights his cigarettes, what more does he need?). As for the death magic, I gave him that because he's terribly afraid of ghosts in his canon, which already made him lose his head a few times back on Prismatica, so now I want him to finally be forced to have some character development in that regard!
How does your character cast their magic? Hijikata just summons fire in his hands - a flick of the fingers for a small flame, typical firebender motions for bigger summons - and throws them like missiles. Since he hasn't mastered wind magic yet (despite Arashi's attempts to instruct him) he can neither change the course of his attacks nor extend their life span by fueling them. His death magic is completely passive at the moment; he's only just learning to interact with ghosts without having a near-heart-attack. Even if he learns possession spells down the line it's unlikely that he'll use them to personally possess someone; he's not comfortable with the idea of leaving his body.
How does your character feel about their magic?: He's content with his elemental magic, but loathes his death magic (though he's become a bit more humble about it after gaining some better insight into what a spirit's existence really entails and how lost and detached they can feel).
What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: He'd much rather have just about any other type than death magic, even blood magic!
Anything else?: If anyone would like to interact with Arashi I'll gladly bring him out, just hit me up!

Character
Name: Darin Altway
Canon: Original Character

Familiar
Name: 'Lyon'
Species: Giant Antlion
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: So, the Archfiends in Darin's lore have various traits shared with insects. More specifically beetles. As opposed to traditional demon wings, their wings are more like gossamer cloaks that fold around them, much like an insect. Since Darin is the reincarnation of one of these powerful monsters, his familiar was drawn to him. Antlions also grow to become large dragonfly looking bugs. Right now it's in its 'larval' stage and eventually might change as Darin's power grows.
Special features: Lyon's abdomen gets covered in more runes every time Darin masters a spell or some trait of his magic. What will happen when he masters both schools completely? Who knows?
How do they communicate?: Darin can 'sense' what Lyon is 'saying' but no words are ever directly exchanged. It's kinda like reading emotions.
Personality: Creepy. Lyon is always watching, even if you don't see him. He's rather obsessed with the nature of Darin's power, especially what he's technically a reincarnation of, and he was drawn to it. As such, he's highly protective of Darin but doesn't want to push him too far, lest Darin get suspicious.
Relationship with your character: For now, Lyon is watchful.
Visuals: Link!

Magic
Magic Types: Healing and Blood Magic
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I chose healing because I felt it would give Darin some growth potential to not be able to do the things he could back home with his unnatural strength and stamina. As for blood magic, I wanted something that would reflect the dark nature of who he is reincarnated from.
How does your character cast their magic? For healing, Darin's hands grow with a soothing, teal light. As he grows in power, that glow will change into crackles of energy. For blood magic, that 'glow' takes on a darker, almost black aura. Darin doesn't realize it, but his eyes glow when he uses blood magic and small markings appear on his face as well.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Darin likes being able to heal. He is severely off put by the blood magic, though.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Elemental and Technomancy, more than likely. He's a blacksmith, after all!
Anything else?:Nope!

Character
Name: Bean
Canon: Enderverse

Familiar
Name: (none yet)
Species: Formic Hive Queen
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: I was originally going to pick a pseudodragon because of Bean's small stature/association with Dragon Army, but then dragons were capped, so I had to think of something else. The Formics are the primary enemies of humanity in Ender's Game, as they have attempted to invade and conquer Earth on two separate occasions. The plot of the book culminates with the human fleet reaching the Formic homeworld, and Bean and his friends commanding the battle that would lead to the extinction of the Formic race. I chose a hive queen as Bean's familiar because it would cause a lot of complicated feelings for Bean, namely guilt, confusion, and anger.
Special features: She's a giant ant who communicates telepathically and has gossamer wings that she can use to fly.
How do they communicate?: Hive queens communicate to their drones through instantaneous telepathic communication, and Bean's familiar is no different. She communicates mostly with expressions of emotions, images, and sensations rather than with actual words.
Personality: She is highly intuitive, and can sense things that people might try to hide about themselves.
Relationship with your character: Bean was at first resentful and uneasy around his familiar, but they have developed a sort of working relationship/understanding of each other.
Visuals: cw: buglike alien

Magic
Magic Types: Light and Technomancy
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Technomancy I picked first because he's a sci-fi character so I wanted something to do with technology, and then light I picked honestly because it seemed convenient with the prompts on his TDM.
How does your character cast their magic? He casts magic through concentration, without showy incantations or hand gestures. He uses it intuitively, and thinks of it as nothing more than a tool for his convenience.
How does your character feel about their magic?: He tries to avoid using it whenever possible, as he is struggling to accept that magic even exists. He's convinced that there's got to be some kind of scientific explanation behind it.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: If given a choice, he wouldn't even be here to begin with... but if he absolutely had to be here, he would choose a dragon familiar. He'd probably stick with technomancy and be torn on the other one between healing, kinetic, and cognitive.

Character
Name: Momo Yaoyorozu
Canon: My Hero Academia

Familiar
Name: Choki-kun
Species: Kamikiri-mushi
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: I knew I wanted a yōkai familiar for Momo, so I went through a list of them on wikipedia and found kamikiri! Kamikiri are yōkai that are known for cutting the hair of unsuspecting people, either in their sleep, or in dark alleys and the like. I picked it for Momo because her trademark feature is her long ponytail. It's that simple, really. The name "Choki-kun" comes from the Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound scissors make, so he's basically named Snippy.
Special features: He
How do they communicate?: Choki expresses himself through facial expression/body language and small chittering noises. He doesn't speak.
Personality: He's very mischievous, always sneaking off to cut people's hair whenever Momo's busy doing something else.
Relationship with your character: There is some definite friction between Momo and Choki. She's embarrassed by his antics and feels ashamed that she can't keep him on a tighter leash.
Visuals: art by the lovely [plurk.com profile] middaygardens!

Magic
Magic Types: Elemental & Alchemy
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I picked Elemental just because I liked the mental image of Momo using a flaming sword. Again, there wasn't a lot of deeper thought put behind it. Alchemy I chose because it most closely resembles her canon abilities.
How does your character cast their magic? Momo writes spells and recipes and alchemical formulas and such in her Yaoyorictionary, an encyclopedia that contains the chemical structures of various types of inorganic material. She casts magic by reciting incantations from her spellbook Yaoyorictionary, and uses alchemy through the use of symbols and runes.
How does your character feel about their magic?: She's relieved to have Alchemy, and is approaching her Elemental magic systematically by training each element in turn, learning what she can from her classmates who have/had similar abilities.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: She would have chosen Alchemy first and foremost, and then probably healing. If she had to choose a familiar, she probably would have chosen something graceful like a crane spirit.
Anything else?: IF YOU WANT CHOKI TO CUT YOUR CHARACTER'S HAIR, YOU HAVE MY BLANKET PERMISSION!! :D

Character
Name: Corwin of Amber
Canon: The Chronicles of Amber

Familiar
Name: Aldreda
Species: Unicorn
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Unicorns are the heraldic animals of Corwin's family, and in his canon the Unicorn is the living symbol embodying Order in the universe. More literally than that, his father is said to be the son of the Unicorn, so like... his grandma is a unicorn. Sort of. The name Aldreda comes from a medieval English name meaning nobility and strength.
Special features: She radiates a sense of calm understanding, and just being near her can soothe anxiety and uncertainty.
How do they communicate?: She is capable of speaking telepathically, however she mostly chooses to communicate through meaningful looks/gestures.
Personality: Calm, graceful, strong. She has a firm sense of belief in people's worth, and is a good judge of character.
Relationship with your character: Corwin respects Aldreda immensely. She has once allowed him to ride on her back when he was gravely injured, and he is forever grateful. The last thing he wants to do is offend her.
Visuals: actual book cover from Corwin's series

Magic
Magic Types: Kinetic & Blood
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I chose Kinetic for the teleportation ability, mostly, as that was the type of magic which most closely resembled an item from Corwin's canon that he used rather frequently, which is a deck of cards that allows him to communicate with his siblings no matter where in the multiverse they are, and to instantly transport through space to their side. Blood I chose because of its potential offensive uses in battle.
How does your character cast their magic? He uses his Kinetic magic through gestures and concentration, and the Blood magic he uses by... injuring himself, basically.
How does your character feel about their magic?: He's fairly ambivalent about it. He's never been one to dabble in magic back home, leaving that to certain of his relatives, but he understands that here, one needs to use and train their magic in order to get by in this world, so that's the way he approaches it. Like any other skill to use when the time is right.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: He's pretty happy with what he's got, actually.

Character
Name: Yuber
Canon: Suikoden

Familiar
Name: ???
Species: "Bone Dragon" (Dracolich)
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Yuber has an ongoing connection with the dead/undead in canon and specifically summons the boss "Bone Dragon" in Suikoden II. His familiar in Avalon is obviously not said boss but is a homage to it.
Special features: The size of a large wolf but can grow to the size of a small building when Yuber is threatened. Can collapse into bones and separate her skull from the rest of her body.
How do they communicate?: She (usually considered "it" by Yuber) communicates in a dry, rustling, hissing voice but only to Yuber.
Personality: Tired, overworked wine mom
Relationship with your character: She is very rarely far from Yuber's side. She stays with him at the inn, sleeps with him at night and when he's out and about she's usually flying around nearby. She would love to spend some time away from him but every time she looks away he's picking fights, wandering off or trying to eat plastic.
Visuals: Bone Dragon Boss Fight

Magic
Magic Types: Healing, Death
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Healing is the magic type he'd want the least and imagining him as a healer is very funny. Death is actually one he has in canon. Not only can he summon and command the dead he mentions at one point he can speak to the dead as well.
How does your character cast their magic? Healing magic he mostly uses to augment his own strength. For Death magic he uses one hand, usually balling it into a fist, holding it near the ground and using it as his focus to call nearby bones to him. He's not experienced enough at Avalon's death magic to have the same control he did in canon. Yet. His conjured skeletons typically collapse after .5 seconds.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Death he is comfortable with and healing he hates except for the strength augmentation aspect.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Kinetic/Death for magic. ANY familiar is one he'd have a complicated relationship with.

Of course really he'd prefer not to have Avalon magic at all, he'd prefer his canon powers. Being human is driving him nuts.
Anything else?: nah

Character
Name: The Luminary (Eleven)
Canon: Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Familiar
Name: Tickety-Boo
Species: Tockle
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: The Spirits of Lost Time, or Tockles, are a species of spectral beings that have a special connection to the Luminary in canon.
Special features: She glows, can turn invisible and can extend her noodly limbs out very far. When visible she is visible to everyone, unlike canon Tockles that are visible only to the Luminary. Since Eleven lost his Luminary powers coming to Avalon she needed to be in a state where he could see her.
How do they communicate?: She speaks! Often, openly and to anyone who will listen. Also sometimes she will speak to people who won't listen. She enjoys time puns.
Personality: Very friendly and outgoing but prone to nervousness.
Relationship with your character: Eleven and Tickety-Boo are very close friends and they live together but do part ways most of the day.
Visuals:

Magic
Magic Types: Light/Cognitive
Why did you pick these types for your character?: They represent the sort of magic the Luminary uses in canon: Light blades, barriers, seeing the past
How does your character cast their magic? Mostly by using his sword as a focus.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Good! Since they resemble his magic from home, Eleven is comfortable. He's still far from being a master at either light or cognitive but he is always eagerly training.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Light/Cognitive and a horse he could ride would be he is original answer. These days he enjoys Tickety-Boo too much to imagine ever having someone else as a familiar.
Anything else?: Fly-By-Knight is a move in which Hendrik dives at an enemy then Jade rides on his back before hammer throwing him so he goes faster and Eleven then turns him into metal for maximum damage.

[personal profile] cameprepared 2021-05-08 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Character
Name: Claire Redfield
Canon: Resident Evil

Familiar
Name: The Dog
Species: Barghest
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: I picked a Barghest because there are numerous black zombie dogs in Resident Evil, and while I wanted something relatively close to canon, I didn't want to bring a canon creature. They're all riddled with a deadly virus, and are kind of body-horrorish and I figured nobody'd want to deal with that. A Barghest fit the bill!
Special features: A Barghest is one of the myriad Black Dogs/Hellhounds from English folklore. Because of this, The Dog can turn into a spectral, ghostly form and run extremely fast and he can breathe fire.
How do they communicate?: The Dog speaks. But not too much, he isn't a chatty person.
Personality: He's a bit opinionated and doesn't hesitate to speak his mind. He's not snarky, exactly, but he is prone to criticism, and he's good with kids. He's actually quite friendly with strangers overall, and is a pretty chill dog. He has refused all attempts to name him, though, so he's simply The Dog.
Relationship with your character: Claire and The Dog get along well enough. They work well together!
Visuals: Here!

Magic
Magic Types: Dark and Green
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I picked Dark because Claire isn't really a brute force kind of person, and her method of survival and combat in her canon is actually pretty ruthless but has a subtle touch to it rather than anything flashy. It fit with that! Green Magic I went with because of similar reasons. Using her magic to disable and such.
How does your character cast their magic? Claire's magic comes from moving her hands and from focus. It generally manifests in the form of ink or shadow swirling around her fingers, for Dark magic. For Green magic, it mostly comes in the form of green light. Nothing fancy.
How does your character feel about their magic?: She likes it. She loves the opportunity to learn something new!

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Claire would probably have picked Kinetic and Elemental Magic for herself. And if she could pick anything for a familiar, probably an angel.
Anything else?: Nope!

Tsuyu Asui | My Hero Academia

[personal profile] frogiveness 2021-05-08 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Character
Name: Tsuyu Asui
Canon: My Hero Academia

Familiar
Name: Kappa-kun
Species: Kappa
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Kappa are water-related creatures from Japan, Tsuyu's home. Tsu talks about them a little in canon, and they're basically weird turtle-duck-frog hybrids so I figured it worked!
Special features: Kappa-kun is inhumanly strong! And he loves cucumbers. His strength comes from a shallow indentation full of water on his head, and if he tips it over, he temporarily becomes weak until he can refill it.
How do they communicate?: Kappa-kun speaks only through mime so far. He can talk, he just chooses not to.
Personality: He's actually quite friendly! A little cheeky, but friendly! He's a bit of a prankster too, but nothing dangerous or serious.
Relationship with your character: They get along pretty well!
Visuals: Here!

Magic
Magic Types: Light and Bargaining
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I picked Light because it would be a real challenge for Tsu to learn to use. She doesn't have any powers like magic at home, but she has a strong protective instinct, and so I thought it'd fit! I picked Bargaining because she's a friendly person who likes making new ones, and that works well!
How does your character cast their magic? All of her magic comes from wrist motions, and includes a little light show!
How does your character feel about their magic?: She likes it alright, but she'd be happier to have her Quirk back.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Animal Magic and Bargain Magic. She wouldn't trade the Kappa for any other familiar though.

Character
Name: Kadoc Zemlupus
Canon: Fate/Grand Order

Familiar
Name: Kovalyov
Species: D'yavol Tron (ice hydra)
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Of all the creatures that show up as enemies in Fate/, I wanted one that was native to Kadoc's Russian Lostbelt to represent him, and something that was in no way humanish. At first I was worried about picking something Too Badass (which Kadoc does not deserve, lol) but then I decided it was even funnier to have this incredibly huge badass creature have to be nerfed down to a much smaller animal size. The hydras in canon are absolutely massive, idk an exact size but at least like 50+ feet long, and Kadoc's in Avalon is about the size of a large ball python (most of the time), which he feels is his fault and is a bit guilty for.
Special features: D'yavol Tron has extremely powerful ice breath attacks, and also, its body produces a fermented wine-like liquor. I actually have no idea how that happens (canon doesn't explain) and whether it's possible to harvest the wine without killing the hydra, but either way Kadoc is not exactly eager to try.
How do they communicate?: Only through actions and Significant Looks really, and of course a snake doesn't have much facial expression, lol. So he's pretty opaque. Kadoc feels like they have some understanding anyway, but can't be sure how much that's projection/anthropomorphizing.
Personality: It actually has a very similar personality to Kadoc except with much more confidence. Long-suffering, dry, darkly humorous, protective, caring, but practical.
Relationship with your character: Kadoc feels awkward about his familiar in that he feels responsible for tying a creature to this world that doesn't belong here and forcing it to maintain a human bond and a smaller, weaker form. (He actually doesn't know yet that it can grow back to its usual size in a pinch, like during battle.) So he goes out of his way to try not to call on it or bother it too much, feeling like he's a burden, while his familiar in turn thinks Kadoc is kind of a loser, but in a charming way that needs looking after. It will suddenly show up in his place after some time away, like an outdoor cat or something, and do passive-aggressive snake things to get his attention and drag him away from whatever he's doing to eat or sleep or get the fuck outside. They like each other in a low-key way.
Visuals: The wiki! Warning if you don't like snakes.

Magic
Magic Types: Light(/Light. Lightx2)
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Light is ironic in the sense that Kadoc, who is a pretty dark person, would never peg himself for having "Light Magic," but it's also very suited to him in terms of how it actually works; in canon he is big on subterfuge and maintaining illusions, and he's also very protective, at one point leaping in front of his own Servant to take a magical hit with a shielding spell. So having something he can use to trick people, become invisible (kind of a fraught subject for him lol), and also build hard light constructs for protection was very well suited!

He does not get a secondary magic because part of Kadoc's whole deal in canon is that he's worse at magic than everyone around him, and it's a huge sore point that has informed his entire life. He comes from a weak magical bloodline and is extremely mediocre as a mage, while the rest of his team is full of prodigies with some very godmode powers. In Avalon, where everyone loses their canon powers and starts out on the exact same level, his whole magical experience in comparison to others is totally different, but then when secondary magic types were introduced I thought it'd be funny to make him worse off than everyone else in the game again. I might let him gain one later, I'm undecided.

How does your character cast their magic? Pretty much like in canon; he's not especially flashy and doesn't use any sort of object along with it.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Of course he's bitter that he only gets one type, lol. He's honestly not as pressed about it as he could be, and he finds it darkly funny along with being infuriating; it's not even really a surprise. The fact is that the gap between a person in Avalon with one magic type and a person with two magic types is still MUCH narrower than the gap Kadoc is used to between e.g. himself and the leader of his team, when it comes to magical prowess. For now it just makes him more determined to get REALLY good at Light magic so he can at least kind of keep up. He's not happy about it but he can deal with this for now. As for the type itself, Light is fine by him. He knows it suits him for the same reasons I mentioned.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: The idea of having to pick just one or two kinds at all is frustrating to him, because that's not how it works in canon, and he has no real envy of any specific magic type rather than just wishing he weren't stuck with only one. Light would be high on his list if he had to rank the types, though, and if he got a secondary one, he'd probably pick something like Healing that would let him go back to mistreating his body or Kinetic that he could use to augment his strength and speed and senses. Technomancy would also be a good fit.

As far as his familiar goes, there's nothing in particular he'd really feel more comfortable with. Maybe just a wolf?

Character
Name: Shinjiro Aragaki
Canon: Persona 3 Portable

Familiar
Name: ...Mothman
Species: Mothman
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Because he's a heckin' cute Persona, and it is always a pleasure to meet Mothman. (Also because Syn!FemC had a Mothman buddy, and while I don't play purely for angst I am not above occasionally twisting the knife.)
Special features: Will probably eat your flowers. Shinji's really only guessing there based on the other Mothman of his acquaintance.
How do they communicate?: He chirp. Honestly I'm not sure how much sense it makes to Shinji, yet.
Personality: A bit spacy.
Relationship with your character: Still feeling each other out.
Visuals: It Is A pLeAsUrE tO mEeT yOu

Magic
Magic Types: Kinetic/Siphon
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Precisely because it'd take him a long while to figure out he has either, let alone how best to use them. Kinetic has a lot of overlap with Liminal Space survival skills, so he assumed nothing like it was possible until he saw Izzy floating some things. Siphon, he's probably going to have to discover when he first uses it.
How does your character cast their magic? He has yet to really test it.
How does your character feel about their magic?: ...well, at least he's a little less likely to lose control of this than his Persona??? Also a healthy side of 'yeah right, very funny, I'm not good enough to get anything that useful.' (Shinji has self-worth problems, you may have noticed.)

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: He's a dog person, so... cuddly version of Koromaru's Cerberus, maybe? (I have to specify because SMT Cerberi on the whole don't have the proper head count. It's really annoying.) As for magic, he'd probably keep Kinetic but swap to Green, since Makoto told him part of that is 'change flavor/spice levels while cooking.'

Character
Name: Amaguni Hitoya
Canon: Hypnosis Mic

Familiar
Name: Not much of one yet. Hitoya refers to it with some of the same epithets reserved for his obnoxious team leader though.
Species: Lesser Tengu
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: His MC name is Heaven and Hell and he's got this whole black and white theme going on (you absolutely cannot miss it). According to Buddhist lore, tengu are said to be born of spirits that were too heretical to end up in heaven, but not wicked enough to land a place in hell.
Special features: Shapeshifting!
How do they communicate?: It probably could speak if it really wants to particularly due to the shapeshifting but it spends most of its time as a regular crow making a frustrating ruckus.
Personality: Leaning hard into the mischievous, trickster personality. It's kind of an asshole but would step up if Hitoya is in danger.
Relationship with your character: Begrudging coexistence. Sometimes like a parent scolding a child because fingers aren't food.
Visuals: As mentioned, it's just a regular ass crow with the distinguishing feature of a tokin cap.

Magic
Magic Types: Cognitive and Death
Why did you pick these types for your character?: He's a lawyer so cognitive just fit the natural alignment.
Short answer for death is I flipped a coin. Long answer is Hitoya's team in canon is heavily stylized by Buddhist aesthetics and furthermore, all the members grapple with the theme of life and death in their stories. Jyushi's player and I thought it would make sense for them to share Death magic as way to tie them together.
How does your character cast their magic? Cognitive can be subtle but he's also figured out how to amplify it through the use of his Hypnosis Mic. Which means RIP to me who has to write way more bad rapping than any of ya'll deserve to read. I'M SO SORRY.
He's still figuring out Death magic since there's some drama to work through there.
How does your character feel about their magic?: It became apparent pretty quickly his life has basically been turned upside down so he's pretty enthusiastic to improve his magic abilities as a way to get ahead. Plus the cognitive stuff could be especially useful if he ever picks up practicing law again.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Just a familiar that is not a dick! Also maybe swap the death magic for light or dark or just something easier to manage.

Character
Name: Zidane Tribal
Canon: Final Fantasy IX

Familiar
Name: Moguo
Species: Moogle
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Moogles are common fairy creatures in Final Fantasy IX that manage the post and serve as rest/save points. Spirited and helpful, they still have their own personalities. Also, if anyone's going to help Zidane manage magic, it'd be a moogle.
Special features: Somewhere on that fluffy body, he has a knife and knows how to sharpen it. Also, while he mainly will fly, Moguo is ridiculously fast.
How do they communicate?: While Moguo can actually talk, he more often says 'kupo!' which is a common phrase for all moogles (aside from one).
Personality: Though patient and helpful, Moguo is like his actual counterpart where - if bothered enough - proves to have a temper. He tends to think before acting more often than Zidane does unless ticked over the edge.
Relationship with your character: Like siblings that often butt heads, but they still care about each other at the end of the day.
Visuals: Fun reminder that Moogles in FFIX are about the size of small children (Zidane himself being 173 cm)

Magic
Magic Types: Kinetic and Bargaining
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Kinetic is probably actually the closest to what would be Zidane's 'magic' in-universe since it's more about pure energy than any element. As well, his speedier nature in both action and thought lends better to manipulating the space around him. As for Bargaining, he's a talker that somehow regularly allies himself to many types of people, social standing or species notwithstanding.
How does your character cast their magic? Zidane's actually subtle when it comes to casting his magic unless it's levitating/stalling something obviously. Part of his nature; he'll even use distraction tactics for his advantage.
How does your character feel about their magic?: He likes it! A pleasure to have it, but he makes sure not to be overly reliant on it. He's only really lost the abilities to use his skills from home, but he's naturally got a stupid high endurance due to his weird nature and still befriends people/creatures without making contracts, and honestly, isn't that better?

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: He'd probably prefer a chocobo, but it's fine. He'd also be cool having Healing or Elemental Magic, but is fine with what he has again.
Anything else?: I would find it hilarious if Zidane never actually develops his Bargaining magic beyond the basics and just has creatures at his call through the power of friendship. Like geez...

Chris Lightfellow | Suikoden III

[personal profile] ofsilverflame 2021-05-08 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Character
Name: Chris Lightfellow
Canon: Suikoden III

Familiar
Name: Holly
Species: Holly Elf
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Originally, I had planned for Chris' familiar to be the similarly-themed Holly Boy, who has been a recurring enemy type through many Suikoden games. But then I saw the close-up artwork for the Holly Boy and...eeeeeeeeeehhhhhh. So I instead decided to go with the Holly Elf/Fairy because that way she could be an actual secondary character I could control, and so far she's proven to be a delight. So it worked out better!
Special features: She's a shit-stirrer but also has some good advice for Chris about learning how to use magic and with the spider quest thread she did with Claire, there is a connection there. She's mostly just funny for me to write.
How do they communicate?: The usual way; try to get Holly to shut up, really. No doubt Rinea's gotten her fair share of Holly thanks to being Chris' roommate.
Personality: A bit abrasive, and not shy about making herself heard because Holly has a lot of Big Ideas on a variety of subjects and no filter. Also a bit of a lovable coward-type.
Relationship with your character: That said, she does show concern for people she cares about and that does include Chris, despite the ribbing, and it is mutual (she tackled a giant spider that was trying to eat Holly).
Visuals: I was about to say there were no good pictures of Suikoden III Holy Elves, but lo and behold!

Magic
Magic Types: Elemental/Siphon
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I tend to choose magic that best replicated their abilities/home world's magic. In Chris' case, Elemental lets her mimic the Elemental Runes that are so common in the Suikoden world, and more importantly, the True Fire Rune she bears. Siphon I picked for a more "crunch" reason since I like the idea of being able to make Chris an anti-magic tank (and being able to cure curses makes her more than a little Paladin-y, which is fun).
How does your character cast their magic? Chris learned to use her gear as a channeling focus for her magic, so she often channels it through that. Rather than cast a fireball or summon an icestorm, she enchants her sword, usually with fire to make it a good old fashioned blazing sword. She uses ice to create temporary summoned shields. Wind magic she channels around her boots to help her jump or move more quickly. It helps her not to think of "herself" as the source of her magic, but rather her gear, though this would have the side-effect of making it harder for her to cast spells without it.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Chris struggled a bit at first, but with Holly and Claire's help she's figured out a method that works for her, and that she needed to stop trying to emulate her own world's magic, which she was never very good at. She's not a wizard, she's a warrior who uses magic to supplement her combat abilities. Once she had that realization, it became easier for her to wield her magic and use it more effectively. I kind of used Ezra from Fairy Tail (which I've never seen but have absorbed some information about), since her magic type is to summon and equip various weapons and incredibly fanservice-y armours to fight with. That influenced the direction I decided to take Chris' magic in, minus the fanservice (sorry Hawk).

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: I don't really think Chris has any arguments with what she got. Though sometimes she does think a familiar that doesn't talk might have been nice. XD
Anything else?: "Holly" isn't her real name, but one she chooses to go by because most non-Holly Elves can't pronounce the sound a single drop of dew makes as it falls from a blade of grass in the light of the rising sun. I was hoping this might come up in RP but since it hasn't so far I'm just putting it out there. XD

Character
Name: Eustace
Canon: Granblue Fantasy

Familiar
Name: Eria
Species: Snow wolf
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: His familiar was always going to be a wolf, and after the recent backstory reveal my idea was cemented. When he was a child he used to take care of and semi-raise a wolf cub, but it sacrificed its life to save his. It was tempting to make his familiar an exact copy but I opted to make it just a similar resemblance and an adult female instead so that angst wouldn't be too terrible ah ha ha ha.

Special features: Mostly just ice and snow related magic, like creating frost, snow, ice shields. She leaves a light trail of snow and frost behind her.

How do they communicate?: She uses telepathy with Eustace but otherwise doesn't really talk to anyone, but she might in the future. For now she just "communicates" through her actions and a lot of staring and she usually gets her message across.

Personality: Unlike her partner, Eria is a very mischievous, playful wolf and is probably more like a fox, lmao. Aware that Eustace has the social abilities of a cardboard box and needs to quit his lone wolf shtick, she tends to be the reason for unfortunate mishaps and creating situations to help him interact more. Also a tsun. Very tsun. With a maiden's heart

Relationship with your character: Despite Eustace giving her glares that she fully ignores, they actually get along very well. They both know each other is capable and also very protective of the other. She does cuddle up with Eustace and enjoys head scratches (also very much a bed stealer despite having her own). Eustace in turn pampers her a fair bit, but that's usually when they're home or alone somewhere. He doesn't treat her like a pet and more like a partner or companion, so he kind of treats public spaces like out on business/mission, similar to how owners treat service dogs where outside is work but home and breaks is playtime. Unfortunately for Eustace, playtime is anytime for Eria so he should just give that up.

Visuals: Just a normal white wolf

Magic
Magic Types: Animal and Elemental
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Animal was a no brainer because it would allow Eustace to communicate with his beloved doggos as well as be able to transform into one. It's something I had also done in another game he was in and it was quite fun so I wanted to explore it more here. Elemental was another top contender for his access to lightning. With his weapon nerfed, letting him cast lightning would be the second best thing, and his entire motif is revolved around lightning. Ice is another element I'd like for him to explore due to his personal background and how frosty he can be lmao.

How does your character cast their magic? Nothing really special for Animal. For Elemental it just gathers around his hand and fires off that way. Eventually he'll be able to use Flamek and fire off magic through his gun but his primary way is just silently concentrating and releasing it through his hands.

How does your character feel about their magic?: He won't admit it, but he really does appreciate and like Animal magic because it gives him that access to dogs lmao. The transformation thing is still weird for him, but he's getting used to it. As for Elemental, he's kind of ambivalent but he is appreciative of it since it gives him some more offensive options until he can use Flamek again.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Hmmm I don't think he would have chosen any differently. Animal he might not have been so keen (until he realizes he could speak with dogs lol) but Elemental he likely would have leaned towards because of ability to use lightning and is what he's used to dealing with. Kinetic is another he might have considered. Familiar would still definitely be a wolf or some kind of dog!

Character
Name: Harry Potter
Canon: Harry Potter

Familiar
Name: Rose
Species: Pygmy Puff
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: His ex has a Pygmy Puff and Fred and George once sold Pygmy Puffs for their business, a nice way to think about his friends.
Special features: Her charm points are beyond 9,000!
How do they communicate?: She can’t talk, but she is sentient and knows how to emote her feelings, emotions, and thoughts through body language and squeaks.
Personality: Cheerful, outgoing and playful little bundle of joy who likes befriending and cuddling people and getting pet, eats her veggies and berries, and sometimes gets nervous when things go scary. She is also very brave even when things get tough, though it might take a while for her to get over her nerves. Very affectionate and loyal towards her master like an adorable little puppy or kitty.
Relationship with your character: She and Harry get along well swimmingly since day 1. Who wouldn’t say no to a cutie like her?
Visuals: Fan art by Naomi_Lord on Instagram (found via Tumblr)

Magic
Magic Types: Kinetic/Elemental (Fire)
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I first picked Kinetic magic because I have this headcanon of wandless magic being similar to telekinesis. And elemental is chosen because I have this funny mental image of Harry accidentally setting things on fire and him mastering elemental magic sounds cool. Also they are a representation of his growth in canon: from a child in awe of magic to a emo teen to a headstrong confidant adult.
How does your character cast their magic? Harry needs to think hard to conjure up elements and make things move, teleport, etc. He needs to watch out for over-thinking and losing his s**t though.
How does your character feel about their magic?: So far, he’s getting more confident in his kinetic magic, but he is currently down on his luck with elemental magic, especially with him accidentally setting things on FIRE!!!

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: He could have wanted to switch elemental for light magic instead. As for familiars, he is perfectly happy with Rose though.
Anything else?: Nope! But sure to have a bucket of water, a fire extinguisher, or water magic on hand just to be safe.

Character
Name: Rosho Tsutsujimori
Canon: Hypnosis Mic

Familiar
Name: Archimedes (sometimes called Eureka by certain idiots)
Species: Kuda-gitsune aka a pipe fox
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Rosho's leader Sasara has a bit of a fox theme (kitsune-me specifically) and so I figured I could give Rosho something like a fox, and pipe foxes are weird as fuck but also very cute so it became my choice
Special features: Can multiply into many tiny pipe foxes! Also disappears in a poof of smoke when escaping punishment for being a little shit.
How do they communicate?: Can't verbally communicate but is very noisy regardless. Its noises vary between a weasel/ferret's chittering and chirping to a fox's screeching and barking.
Personality: It is... the tiny fox equivalent of Sasara basically. Very noisy, clingy, a bit over protective, super playful. Tends to be wary around people it first meets but if it comes to realize people are friends with Rosho then it warms up to them pretty quickly.
Relationship with your character: It loves Rosho very very much (and considering Rosho had a near death experience it is SUPER more attached than it used to be), and because of this, it hates Rosho's boyfriend. 😔
Visuals:

It is he! Art by Mare 💕

Magic
Magic Types: Alchemy and Death
Why did you pick these types for your character?: I chose alchemy because of its use of symbols and relation to science. Seeing as Rosho is a math teacher, I figured it'd be the type of thing he could pick up well and actually enjoy learning. As for death, I chose it because I'm an asshole, since Rosho canonly hates ghosts and scary things.
How does your character cast their magic? Rosho always carries around a notebook and little disposable knick-knacks (things he picks up in the forest, rocks, sticks, etc) which is how he uses his alchemy on the go otherwise he can easily implement most things when creating an item.

He doesn't use his death magic. He refuses to. You can't make him.
How does your character feel about their magic?: Alchemy is great. Death magic sucks please make it go away.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: Rosho would prob def choose alchemy still along with healing magic, since he's the sort of person that strives to help others however he can. As for a familiar, he'd prefer something not as.... loud and a hassle as his pipe fox. Something SILENT. But really he'd choose anything as long as it wasn't scary. One of my initial ideas was a moon rabbit because his personal theme is the moon, so he'd like something like that.
Anything else?: I headcanon Rosho hasn't gotten the swing of using alchemy for things like food yet, but when he does.......... endless pudding supply.

Character
Name: Zhongli (aka Morax aka Rex Lapis aka Vago Mundo aka a lot of other names)
Canon: Genshin Impact

Familiar
Name: Hǔpò (Chinese name for amber resin)
Species: Seelie!
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: They're cute as fuck that's it. Also Genshin Impact had an event where you could get seelie pets for your character, including different colored seelie, so I figured a yellow seelie would be perfect for Zhongli.
Special features: It has no real powers to speak of other than its good at finding people and leading them back to Zhongli hgkjdfs. Canonly they're known to lead people to treasure so I figured I could implement that somehow.
How do they communicate?: It can't speak but it makes really cute noises!!
Personality: Zhongli's seelie is very curious, bubbly and sociable. It's very playful with people and will nudge them and sit on them casually. If it were an animal it'd pretty much be like a little puppy lol.
Relationship with your character: Zhongli calls his seelie his "companion" so like, they're friends but not quite?? He believes himself responsible for the little guy so instead of his seelie protecting him it's more like Zhongli wants to protect it instead.
Visuals:

A friend. 🥺 Full version here!

Magic
Magic Types: Kinetic and Bargaining
Why did you pick these types for your character?: One of Zhongli's primary powers is literally throwing a goddamn meteor from the sky at his enemies so that's... why I chose kinetic magic LMAO. As for bargaining, he's known as the God of contracts, so... forming contracts, contract magic, it just works for him.
How does your character cast their magic? All he really does with his kinetic magic is float around for easy travel and throw things at Venti. He's been steadily getting used to his bargaining magic and forming contracts with various creatures here and there.
How does your character feel about their magic?: He's used to magic and it's all really similar to his old canon powers so it's no big difference to him.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: He doesn't particularly care? But considering he's a geo user elemental magic would be more closely related to what he's used to, and bargaining magic would still stick with him. As for familiar I honestly have nooo idea since Zhongli would be the sort who would rather just be on his own.
Anything else?: When I say Zhongli throws things at Venti I mean he throws things at Venti and is perfectly used to it. This is a 6,000 year old man... 🤦‍♀️

Name: Colette Brunel
Canon: Tales of Symphonia

Familiar
Name: Emerald
Species: Protozoan - wiki here but in this particular stage they basically look like oversized white and green dogs.
Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Colette loves dogs. So I figured something along those lines would be appropriate for her but not actually being Noishe himself (since Noishe belongs to Lloyd). I figured something like this could work because Colette knows Noishe and about dogs in general to get to have her own, sort of, if a Protozoan really counts lol. Since back home she has never had a pet that we know of and that's probably in part - mostly, because she wasn't expected to live past sixteen and all. So any pet she had others would have had to possibly care for after she went on her Journey. I think something like a Phoenix may also have worked for her because /gestures at the whole being expected to sacrifice herself thing. Yeah.
Special features: The loooooong life span? The ability to transform into another form depending on which stage of life it is at/how old it is?
How do they communicate?: Whining, with the movement of her tail and ears. There's some barking too. Like a normal dog.
Personality: Friendly, will lick your face and approach for all the pets. Generally happy and outgoing, will approach most anyone. Very trusting. Very protective of Colette and will jump to defend her if she senses a threat. A curious not!doggo.
Relationship with your character: Very close, yes. Colette loves having Emerald around, even if it might be odd for her to have a Protozoan that isn't Noishe because Noishe was the only one she knew back home and all. But Colette does her best in looking after Emerald, constantly petting and walking her and such but also chatting to her a lot that Emerald isn't really treated as a pet but more as a friend in the same way she loved having Noishe around back home? I would say. She's very affectionate and playful with Emerald.

Magic
Magic Types: Light and Green Magic
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Light magic just seemed appropriate for Colette given her whole becoming an Angel and all. Also given the Chosen's duty in restoring Mana supply to the declining world to save the crops etc it made sense to go with Green magic for her here too! That and Colette is like a light herself, in all her positivity generally and her whole light colour scheme she has going and all.
How does your character cast their magic? a video of her Artes in Symphonia. I guess her magic here is probably kinda similar in her concentrating and casting the light or sending her Green magic from her hands to grow the plants, or having them spread from her hand initially at least. Damage Guard is probably similar to how her barrier with Light Magic would be?
How does your character feel about their magic?: I think Light Magic is similar enough that Colette's used to that sort of thing back home to some extent at least. She's definitely keen to keep practicing with her Green Magic though! She loves the idea of helping things grow, after growing up in the declining world of Sylvarant.

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: lbr Animal Magic because she could Talk To Dogs, guys!!
