Name: Rei sarcastically called her "Princess" too many times and now she responds to it for real
Species: Hou-ou

Why did you pick this familiar for your character?: Rei's imagery in canon includes a hou-ou! Hou-ou are used as signs of new eras, and the appearance of one signifies a new and virtuous ruler. Rei styles himself as a lordly monarch type in a time of extreme political unrest, so of course I had to give him his imperial bird to match.

Special features: Princess is all gold shades, unlike the standard rainbow hou ou!
Rei doesn't know it yet, but in a pinch she can use purifying fire to banish undead evil spirits, incoming curses, et cetera. Mostly her power is just being a Big Fucking Bird.

How do they communicate?: Princess does not speak, only squawk/chirp/other bird noises. Rei can sort of understand her cues, but she can't communicate anything complicated. She and Rei can't exactly communicate telepathically, but they're extremely on the same wavelength so Rei can nonverbally give her orders.

Personality: Princess is much friendlier than Rei, but she is vain and has an ego size that rivals his own. She loves being complimented on her beauty. On the downside, she greatly dislikes getting dirty, and so hasn't gone on many quests... LMFAO
Princess also tolerates other characters, and if they are sufficiently pathetic in front of her she will adopt them as well. However, that usually means this very large bird will try to land on you and preen your hair, which can be uh... alarming at best

Relationship with your character: Princess loves, loves, LOVES Rei. She considers him her precious ward and will mother him as necessary. Rei was initially wary of her, and had the typical "(dad voice) we don't need a pet" reaction, but now he also completely babies her. Just COMPLETELY babies her. Princess gets everything she wants.
Since they're both vain creatures, they also enjoy how cool they look together LKDSKLFJS *uses each other as pose props*

Magic
Magic Types: Dark & Technomancy
Why did you pick these types for your character?: Rei plays up the fact that he's a Super Evil Bad Guy, No Really He Is, in canon. so of course I gave him dark magic! It suits his indirect, manipulative approach to everything.
Technomancy is because Rei is a ~~nerd~~ programmer&engineer AND i wanted him to be able to use his magic combo to make his Hypnosis Mic a full-fledged weapon again. I am WAY too embarrassed to write raps much tho, i've only written one so far JKJSFSFLKFF

How does your character cast their magic? Rei's magic casting is extremely subtle! It doesn't look like much of anything-- but he can only cast touch-range spells so far (unless using his mic, but to use that he needs time to rap an entire verse, so like... tradeoffs LMFAO). When using technomancy he can make his devices show sci-fi like holo displays, or nothin at all if he needs to hide what he's doing.
Also Rei has styled his technomancy into a Siri-like smart assistant (he calls her Iris, partly bc of all the eye jokes it opens up, and partly because it's Siri backwards LMFAOOOO). So far only he (or others with technomancy) can understand what she says back to him, though.

How does your character feel about their magic?: Rei was initially ANNOYED about magic, because it's not sciencey enough to be completely understood, not fair that it's real in other people's worlds but not his, etc. He's gotten more used to it though, and generally appreciates what he's got. It recently saved his life from a doppelganger so like, better to have it than not KJSSFDSF

What magic and familiar would your character choose for themselves?: I gave Rei exactly what he would have picked for himself, because Rei doesn't deserve nice things and so of course he gets them. LMFAO
Anything else?: Rei named Phoenix Roost after his familiar!
