TEST DRIVE MEME ⚔️️ 2
![]() Premise ⚔️️ Rules ⚔️️ FAQ ⚔️️ Taken ⚔️️ Reserves ⚔️️ Apply ⚔️️ Locations ⚔️️ Bestiary ![]() A ⦿ Soaking in Your Arrival
Regardless of what you were in the middle of, you and your familiar have been magically pulled into the world of Avalon just above the Bay's chilly waters. After a brief plunge into the Bay, the rush of water filling your ears and soaking up into every creak and crevice of your body, you may need to cough to clear your airways when you rise above the surface. It's paralyzingly cold for a few seconds before you're approached by the Lady of the Lake beneath the water's surface. She puts a vial of a vibrant, glowing red Everwarm* potion to your character's lips. The icy water doesn't feel so icy once consumed and you'll be able to move your limbs enough to swim to shore on your own. She can't stick around to explain, she's got to get this to all the new arrivals! Many of which you'll see plopping in around you. If you can't swim, a handful of helpful ice turtles will scoop you up from beneath and drop you off at the shore. When not helping people, the turtles are going around and hitting the ice that keeps forming on the surface with their shells to keep the surface open for the falling arrivals or pushing personal items to the beach near the new arrivals they smell like (belong to). If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. If anyone with Animal Magic asks the turtles, they will give the full spiel, but very slowly, and they like to get off topic and gossip about other turtles you've never heard of. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, but if you do fall, be prepared for a mysterious sand hand to reach out of the side of the cliffs to catch you. The hand will pat you atop the head twice before retreating back into the wall. This is the Cliff Beast; despite the name, he is quite friendly. B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot
These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console with nip bottles. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, C ⦿ The Red Spring
If you don't want to relax in the room, try taking a dip in the spring for another chance to meet your fellow travelers. The waters have restorative properties that help horses and travelers recover quickly when drunk. It is known to relieve stress, improve energy levels, and mildly accelerate healing. It may be a little chilly when you get out though, so make sure you don't slip rushing back indoors when you get out! The springs are also home to a large training grounds just outside town limits, where there are teachers who will teach basic magic safety and help you discover what kind of magic you have together with other new arrivals. Try target practice, obstacle courses, meditation circles, and other ways to try to figure out just what you can do... if you didn't already have an accidental discovery on the ride there. ![]() A ⦿ Trial and Icy Errors Winter has arrived in Avalon, and with it has come to a change in the weather. Puffs of breath precede sentences when outside, small fires fill braziers to allow people to stop and get warm for a moment between where they come from and where they are going. Snow has begun to fall; at first, it is the same, fluffy, white flakes many adventurers will have seen. However, as the day progresses, the snow begins to shimmer; it’s like a prismatic effect, a magical light catching against every little crystal and illuminating sparkling flakes, so vibrant it’s clear someone has enchanted the snow. Shortly after the change, there will be a text alert to all devices: Tired of the same old routine with your magic? Ready for a little something new? Come on out and have an old fashioned snowball fight with a magical twist. Be sure to practice your new powers and have fun! 😉 -MerlinThose who come outside to find the rainbow snow already being packed into neat balls by Camelot's citizens; go ahead and grab a basket full but remember, don’t just toss them. Let’s get magic with it! Different types of magic will have different effects on the enchanted snow: In the end, it seems while adventurers will be able to get plenty of practice in, some of that practice is going to come from trying to stop the side effects of mixing their powers with the magic snow; welcome to your first lesson in control. If one is going to use magic in conjunction with already magically imbued things, they ought to know the right amount, seems Merlin wants you all to learn in a trial by snowball error. Those who practice their magic and participate in the snowball fight will be given hot chocolate, warm soup, fresh baked goods, or other treats to warm them up after their training is done. But don’t slack off! You’re like to find your hot chocolate spiced with pickle flavor, that warm treat suddenly turns to ice cream in your mouth. Avalonians want that practice to happen, and are willing to add some incentive... whether that means the carrot or the icicle. ![]() All throughout the City of Camelot is a buzz of excitement about the oncoming winter solstice on the 21st. Citizens will tell you of the winter solstice's importance in cleansing the flow of Avalon's magic each year and absorbing sunlight to increase its potency. In other words, the winter solstice generates a significant amount of magic if the proper ritual is followed, so the visitors from other worlds really should head on over to Albion's White Cliffs. A ⦿ The Darkness in the White Cliffs
Once you gain entrance, you will find there is no light within the caves and the door seems to close behind you. Non-magical lights won't illuminate anything within these caves, so you will need to either navigate through the darkness or find a magical means to light your path. Be wary-- traveling in the dark will be a much safer journey if you can find your way through the caves and keep track of your companions. The reason there is no light are the bat-like creatures that eat energy like fire and electricity. With the magical light attracting them and nothing to consume, they'll be very aggressive and swarm anything emitting heat.. like an unsuspecting traveler. Make too much noise, and the Cliff Beast will spit you out back onto the sand and you'll have to start over. B ⦿ "For a greedy man, even his tomb is too small."
There is no clear warning about what will happen if you take anything besides your one cup. However, characters who disobey this instruction and take any of the riches within the cave will initially experience severe symptoms such as magical blockage, an endless common cold, and food turning to ash in their mouth. They will experience dreams in which they are urged to return the treasure and a day later, advanced symptoms if it goes on for too long have been known to result in vomiting frogs and snakes, insomnia, speaking in tongues despite the translation spell, bleeding from the ears, and eventually death. C ⦿ Drink Up
Upon arriving at the Red Springs, a party of people there to guide those who have made the ritual's journey to a particular pool within the vicinity of the springs. Characters will be directed to take a sip, then pour the rest into the Spring alongside your peers, finally throwing the clay cup itself into the spring. Throughout the day, you will begin to feel strangely giddy, but it will pass. Nothing much will seem like it happens otherwise, but the guides assure you that you will understand on the night of the winter solstice when the ritual is complete and your body becomes a conduit to purify and rejuvenate Avalon's magic. For now, as thanks, the guides offer you one of the celebratory gifts they have to offer-- free drinks (this time of the age-appropriate alcoholic or sugary variety), a free night's stay at the Red Springs, a yule log, an escort, a Recipe: Snow Dance. (Effect: Snow Dance will cause small flurries to pick up where the spell is cast, resulting in decreased visibility. Only works if snow is already present, as it cannot generate elements.) The choice is yours. Pick one. Maurice Hutch | OC | +healing magic
There, there, you'll be right as rain in no time.
[A beautiful white and gold unicorn stands guard over a disheveled and rotund human man as the surf gently washes in and out around their feet. She lips at his limp hair and puffs warm breaths against his cheek. This is all well and good and honestly quite adorable, but Maurice is not in the headspace to think about that right now.]
[Maurice Hutch, up until just a few moments ago, was a vampire on the run from his problems. He'd only recently learned about the world of the supernatural after getting dumped head-first into it. Getting turned behind a gas station can really put a damper on your year--especially when you find out that the other resident vampires that you also didn't now about are not thrilled with your sudden appearance. But all that's a confusing blur for him now. He just stands, his arms wrapped around himself, and shivers as a real actual unicorn presses her muzzle against his face.]
Y-y-you keep saying that but s-some how I don't believe you. N-no offence.
[He hasn't felt the cold in months. Even if that beautiful mermaid (???) lady helped him not freeze to death in the bay, the breeze off the water and his wet clothes are still making him shake. He takes a little solace in noticing others in the same boat. Where was this? The last time his life got weird at least he got to go home to his own bed at night. But at least...here, he had a heartbeat. He could feel it rushing in his ears.]
[Movement catches his attention and he looks up to see one of his fellow castaways passing by. He opens his mouth to speak but swiftly shuts it. He's too shy to say anything.]
[Thankfully, his familiar is there. The unicorn calls out in a bell-like voice.]
Ahoy there! Excuse me, dear! I believe my charge was about to ask you som--MMPH!
[Maurice suddenly overcomes his nerves and claps both hands over the unicorn's mouth.]
NO I WASN'T NEVERMIND!
The Red Spring
[After a night's rest and getting his feet back under him, Maurice's nerves have turned to jittery excitement. He was going to save this world! He was going to learn magic! He never had to bite anyone ever again.]
[But what if he was bad at magic? Oh, God.]
[Maurice's familiar followed him patiently from workshop to workshop as he tried to discover his gift. At first he thinks maybe it's Animal Magic but quickly realizes that everyone else can understand his unicorn partner as plainly as he does. He spends an hour trying to light a candle by snapping his fingers and gives himself a headache trying to move a stone with his mind.]
[It is as he sits on a bench near the obstacle coarse and tries to nurse his headache that he discovers it. Maurice rubs his temples and sighs, sorely wishing his headache would go away so he could focus. Suddenly, he feels something. The sensation reminds him of planting his hands (and tongue) against the staticky screen of an old television as a kid. The tingling feeling spreads across his temples and though he cannot see it yet, the area is glowing softly. Then, the light travels from the aching sides of his face and up through his hands, dissipating along with the pain.]
Wuh--wh. Woah. Oh. Oh, man! Oh my God! Aha-ha! Yes!
[He lets out a whoop, startling his familiar who has dozed off in the grass nearby. When the unicorn looks up she sees her charge darting off across the training grounds. Maurice has been watching the others try and discover their powers with no shortage of mishaps.]
[This time, he's going to be there. This time, he's going to do good. He makes a b-line for the nearest magic-user who has suffered any kind of injury.]
H-hey! Hey, you okay?
Soaking in your Arrival
The grey-white dragon-headed, lion-bodied, winged pixiu following at his side stopped when he did.
It took him less than a fraction of a second to realize what was probably happening. So, to hopefully save them any awkwardness, he approached with a smile as if he hadn't noticed anything amiss.
His smile, like his voice and...well, general demeanour really, is calm and mild-mannered.]
Ah, I apologize for troubling you, but have you seen a young man in a suit of Eagle Armour?
[He takes a look at this person's clothes though and elaborate a little further because you certainly don't look like you're from Da Liang!] It's a suit of black armour with wings at the back.
no subject
[Maurice quickly whirls away from the unicorn to face the other man, hands struggling to fit into his soaked jean pockets.]
HI--hey, haha sorry. Um...no? I haven't seen anybody like that, I'm sorry. Is he from your...world?
[He was a whole world away now, wasn't he? Maurice takes a little time to look at the way Chang Geng is dressed. It's familiar but not at the same time. He's too afraid to assume anything. As though he's only just noticed, his eyes move to the other man's familiar and grow wide as dinner plates. A unicorn--he knows what that is. But a pixiu? Not so much.]
no subject
Chang Geng had kept an eye out when he was in the water so he's fairly certain the man wasn't here. Still, it didn't hurt to make sure because that soldier was from the Black Iron Camp and anything that had ties to Gu Yun he wanted to help protect if he were able.
So besides a small sigh there isn't much surprise in his expression.]
Yes. He was a companion that was keeping an eye on me.
[How funny. The one time he wasn't trying to lose one of the people Gu Yun sent to find him and they ended up seperated anyway.
It would be funny. Except nothing about this situation is actually funny.
Despite everything his demeanour remains calm, his mouth returns to a gentle smile quickly as he sees the way this person's eyes widen. He placed a hand on the pixiu's head and she pushes into the touch.]
It's interesting, isn't it? There are so many different creatures here...some of whom I've never thought were real.
no subject
[Maurice somehow hasn't even considered anyone from home arriving with him. What would he do if his mom showed up? Or worse--his sister!]
Maybe he'll turn up!
[He has to stay positive! So far, this was the best supernatural thing that has happened to him. Maurice pulls his attention back to his fellow castaway.]
Yeah, it is! I mean--I'm still gettin' my head around this whole other world thing too. You okay? Did yall end up in the water too?
no subject
Though he felt, if that soldier were here it's likely he will be the one to find Chang Geng before long...after all, he had been ordered by the Marquis of Order himself to do so.
Still, that was a thought for another time.]
It's rather a lot, isn't it? [He sounded like he was commiserating but he still sounds calm, as if his wet hair and clothes was a result of maybe being caught in the rain rather than being dropped into an icy ocean in another world.] I'm a little cold, but it's not as bad after I got that medicine earlier. [Also he grew up near the northern border so it's not like he's not used to the cold.] How about you?
no subject
The mermaid! You saw her too?
[On one hand, he's glad he didn't hallucinate her! On the other, he feels just a little less special.]
no subject
[He brushed a wet strand of hair that shifted out of his face, tucking it behind one ear.]
Did she also mention an Archimedes to you?
no subject
[He nods enthusiastically. Without her, he surely would have drowned! He hadn't even known he was alive when she helped him.]
Oh...maybe? I was kind of out of it. I thought she said something about my knees...
no subject
It was pretty overwhelming and I could be wrong of course, but it seemed like a name...though not one I recognize.
[He had been remarkably calm about the whole thing despite the weirdness of the situation. It's just how he is.]
no subject
[His familiar bobs her head this time, proud of Maurice's willingness to actually ask another human something on his own.]
no subject
But first, we should get out of these wet clothes. The medicine is helping but who knows when it will wear off and then we'll catch a cold. And leaving wet hair like this is likely to give us headaches when we're older.
[This young man nags like an old Chinese grandmother.]
no subject
Man, yeah. There's a building up that way, we can ask the folks there.
[Maurice gestures to the Rent-a-Ride at the cliffs before peeling off his soaked shirt. He wrings it out as best he can while he walks and tries to shake out his hair for good measure. It isn't nearly as long as his new friend's. Maurice's chest is peppered in ugly pale scars and his right arm bears a classic "Mom" heart tattoo.]
Oh, uh, shoot! What's your name? I forgot to ask.
no subject
I think we were all a little too caught up with everything to remember our manners.
[He says despite acting with perfect manners minus the 'asking for a name' bit.]
My name is Li Min.
Red Spring
I just need to catch my breath, Cid! It's harder than it looks.
[ He brings his hands close together and concentrates on the space between them, and he's soon rewarded with a floating ball of light no more than a finger's width in diameter. Another moment of concentration, and the little light takes on the silhouette of a butterfly.
He's about to let it go when his familiar can no longer contain his excitement, and launches itself straight at Jophrey, teeth bared and claws out. The light disappears with a pop as the mage loses his concentration, leaving the feline to latch on to the next thing that happened to be in his path. ]
YOUCH!
[ And that would be Jophrey's hand. Fortunate, then, that help would be so close at hand. ]
O-oh! I'm fine but...Ah!...would you be so kind as to help me with my familiar? He's--OW!--gotten a little overexcited.
[ By which he means that "Cid" is currently clinging to Jophrey's with his claws and chewing with gusto on the mage's hand. ]
no subject
[This little cat baby in the batman hoodie is SO. CUTE. Since arriving to the training grounds, Maurice hasn't run out of new things to see yet! He quickly shakes himself and turns his attention back to the issue at hand. Jophrye's hand to be precise.]
Yeah, dude, okay! Uh...
[He drops to a knee and gently reaches out to try and take hold of Cid by his armpits.]
Good kitty--nice kitty. Le'go! C'mon now, drop it!
no subject
Cid lets out another loud protest, wriggling and growling until he's able to squirm free and fly out of sight. The man stares after his delinquent familiar and sighs. ]
He'll be back. He just needs to have a good sulk.
[ He smiles and shakes his head. ]
Cats, eh? Temperamental little buggers. Got me good, too.
[ He examines the damage to find fresh claw marks on his forearm, shallow and harmless, but no doubt painful. ]
