A ⦿ Soaking in Your Arrival
    KERPLUNK, SPLASH!

Regardless of what you were in the middle of, you and your familiar have been magically pulled into the world of Avalon just above the Bay's waters. After a brief plunge into the Bay, the rush of water filling your ears and soaking up into every creak and crevice of your body, you may need to cough to clear your airways when you rise above the surface. It's still chilly, but not enough that you can't manage on your own. The Lady of the Lake is swimming around under the water, but seems to be focusing on coordinating a band of mossatees to help rescue any wayward new arrivals. Mossatees are a special Avalonian manatee that is green in color and has what appears to be a patches of grass or other short plant life growing on its back. While some are fully green, many sport blooming flowers or fairy circles of mushrooms.

If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. Those with animal magic may get their info from the manatees, though may notice that they're really overly friendly and have zero concept of personal boundaries. Everyone may notice they have no concept of personal space, as they will happily run right into someone's belly for a snoot squishing. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, but if you do fall, be prepared for a mysterious sand hand to reach out of the side of the cliffs to catch you. The hand will pat you atop the head twice before retreating back into the wall. This is the Cliff Beast; despite the name, he is quite friendly.

*Reminder: Your character's familiar may or may not be with your character in their initial plunge. If the familiar isn't partial to water, it may meet your character on the beach or sit atop their head while they swim. Or if they are, they might splash about and swim alongside your character. Familiars have different personalities and body specs and we leave those up to the players.

B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot
Once everyone is wrangled up to the top of the White Cliffs, the handsome owner of the Rent-a-Ride, Archimedes, will distribute smart phones, a pair of earbuds, and animal-themed ponchos and tell them to "Check the Shit Box." The "Shit Box" refers to wardrobe more formally known as the Wardrobe of Finding, a hammerspace-like wardrobe that opens to each person's items and pets when the person touches the handle. It was recently enchanted by Merlin to prevent people from having to fish their waterlogged possessions and pets out of the water with them. From there, Archimedes directs everyone to settle in groups into modernized carriages pulled by horses and gives them a basic explanation of why and how they've been brought to Avalon: The rest of the universe is frozen in time and your character has been brought here by a familiar that was able to bond with them. They'll have to learn magic to help save their own world from destruction, but first they've got to get them to Camelot. It is here that you have the first opportunity to decide who they will be in their new home. You'll have about an hour to wander around here, meet and greet, and pet the horses before it's time to go.

These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console with nip bottles. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, [community profile] avalononline (AOL), to chat with other characters, watch dumb videos, learn about the world, contact Camelot Support (they'll answer any questions they can for you, from how to use a smart phone to where to find quests and resources to learn more about your magic). Be careful if you decide to use your phones while in the caravan-- if you don't use those earbuds and start forcing everyone to listen to your nonsense, Archimedes may make you walk. Which given the fact that it's pouring down rain in April? Not ideal. You were only given ponchos, not rain boots.

C ⦿ The Red Spring
The journey from the White Cliffs to the City of Camelot is a long one, and the first evening you arrive you'll end up spending at the Red Spring, a booming resort town. Because of the volume of new arrivals and vacationers, inn rooms are assigned two-to-a-room. The rooms have two twin beds, a bathroom, a mini-fridge and microwave, and a TV equipped with a couple of entertaining video games and a few free movies.

Unfortunately, due to a bee infestation and massive amounts of rain, the hot springs of the Red Springs are not available this month! Instead, an underground salt cave is offered as a way to relax and unwind. Gather around in the rejuvenating, dimly lit caves and breathe in the relaxing effects of salt crystals. Feel the sand between your toes, or if you don't like sand, try one of the many pools with tiny garra rufa for a fish pedicure. Or, lie down in a recliner and stare up at the "stars"-- magic sparkles in the ceiling that move to spell out single-word concepts you may be experiencing. (Maybe you're relaxed? You might get something like "Chill." Find your relaxation buddy hot? Just be careful to look away before the stars spell "Thirsty" to the whole room.)

The springs are also home to a large training grounds just outside town limits, where there are teachers who will teach basic magic safety and help you discover what kind of magic you have together with other new arrivals. Try target practice, obstacle courses, meditation circles, and other ways to try to figure out just what you can do... if you didn't already have an accidental discovery on the ride there.

As it turns out, a mythical land that's been around for a few centuries has a few things in common with many modern worlds. It's got the internet, and games have evolved a little bit past hoop trundling and draughts. April, being the traditional month of mirth and games and lots of rain making it hard to have fun outdoors, is the time for Camelot City Gaming Convention, affectionately shortened to CameCon. Come into the large convention center located in the south part of town, get dry, and check out some of the awesome things to do.

A ⦿ Couchless Co-Op
Without the massive audiences required to really run MMORPGs, Avalon is much more a fan of couch co-op style gaming. Though most games are available on mobile devices throughout Avalon when they are released, there's nothing quite like coming to CameCon to utilize the gaming stages for everyone's favorite fighting games. Multiple players at a time can plug in their phones and connect their accounts to a light magic-based illusion stage (powered by multiple light mages at a time, once a year only!) roughly the size of a basketball court. Fighting games can be played tournament-style on the phone next to your opponent for some awesome trash talk during your battle. Race through space with this year's popular NASTAR Racing Game (National Association for Space Travel Auto Racing) game and fight off space pirates in an epic Mario Kart-esque racing and item battle adventure with your choice of star ship.

Or plug your phone into the stage podium and get away from the humdrum fantasy life by joining in a live-movement game that combines synchronous kinetic and light magic. Move your body in the vortex illusion of your favorite rhythm dance game with a buddy! Or maybe you're more into the free-style gaming of Grand Theft Automation with both friends and strangers-- step onto the illusionary stage itself to explore crawling cityscapes and live the life of crime you always dreamed of... at least the cops won't really arrest you if you do it here. Just make sure if you use magic you remember you're on a stage and don't accidentally send some flying off at a poor convention go-er just past the illusion stage.

B ⦿ Arthurian RP in your Arthurian RP
None can forget one of the most important of game types: the roleplaying game. There's a huge historical set game going on right now where characters can LARP as their favorite Knight of the Round Table. There may be a couple of arguments if two Lancelots end up in the same game, but don't worry, there's a fair way of determining who gets the part for this game if you don't want to wait for the next storyline: rock-paper-scissors-magic. Instead of the traditional version of RPS, you shake your fists and open up to whatever hand-held spell you can make with your particular brand of magic. If it's something that can overcome the other kind in less than three seconds, you're the winner. (And yes, even healers can play-- some protective magic to block a dark magic pain curse is definitely going to win out, for example!)

Either way, once your role is decided, put your acting skills to the test! ...and if you don't have any, well, they have costumes that will help you get into the mood with a little dress-up and props that will magically give you sword skills... though only while using the dull-edged plastic props. Or you can just sit on the sidelines and have a picnic on the concrete floor of the center with a potential new pal and watch other people play-- there's a lovely little buffet table with pastries, coffee, and juice in the corner.

C ⦿ It Figures...
A convention isn't a convention without a little shopping. Come check out what cool games are upcoming in the exhibit hall, buy figurines of your favorite game characters (or.. new ones you've never heard of since this is a new world, but are still cute and/or kick-ass), and most importantly, check out the cool magic you can apply to them. A spell available for purchase in the convention hall that's popular this year is Recipe: Figure Anima, which makes your figures move in place and say popular lines as if they're an actual, miniature version of the character. It's recommended you practice while you're in the convention hall though so figure experts can help if things go.. awry. People have been known to have their own emotions influence the spell, and sometimes toys have started taking on the attitude of the caster. There's nothing quite as tragic as your favorite angelic game character telling you they're gonna kick your ass because you were in a fighting mood. So OOC. Maybe you can find someone who's a little better at magic to fix the problem?

Of course, when the rain breaks through and floods the exhibition room, there's a lot of mass hysteria as people scream and climb up onto tables, trying to protect their merch above all else. Hurry, help someone else up onto your table before their ent dakimakura they just purchased gets wet! Only you can save the gamers from water! ..Or that's what you thought, until a second later the electricity goes out and you're left in a total electricity blackout in the convention hall. It may be a good idea to use some magic to try to light the way and find a way out of the flooded hall...

A ⦿ Keep Your Vines to Yourselves
With magic blossoming left and right because of the bountiful spring equinox rituals, things have been getting a little stranger around the Broceliande. Though it's always been known for being a little odd, there is an overgrowth of prehensile, very friendly vines populating the forest now. The vines seem to have minds of their own, sometimes grabbing people, pulling them up into trees, or generally wrapping around them as if trying to get a warm hug. Ultimately, they seem relatively harmless.. except when you can't get down from them.

Hopefully, you've got some kind of destructive magic that can help you fight off the overly friendly vines as you head into the forest to investigate the strange reports citizens have been making of their friends and family disappearing in the generally friendly, if odd forest when they've gone to fetch herbs or other supplies, gone on walks, or who knows what else from the forest. It seems like the best way to get the vines to let go without magic is to tickle the person the vines have captured, so you really better hope you're ticklish... and there's someone willing to really go in on it. It takes a lot of laughter to get these vines to leave you alone!

B ⦿ Selfies with Selkies
Those who continue on with their investigation after avoiding or escaping the vines will find a very, very large flower that seems to have taken route in a sink hole in the middle of the forest. Hundreds of vines seem to be coming from it, and it seems like this flower may be the source of all of the vines throughout the forest. It won't attack unless you attack it first and it seems to almost immediately regrow any vines that are destroyed. If the flower itself is attacked, it will rise up and attempt to eat your character with thousands of tiny shark-like teeth that lie where the pollen of its flower should be. Those who try to fight will find it seems virtually unkillable and immovable. It is neither plant nor animal and seems to have a thousand minds and souls held within it that somehow feel incomplete, so it's largely incommunicable even with cognitive or death magic. It's definitely a strange find, and it could be easy enough to assume the missing people tried aggression as their first tactic and got gobbled up...

Take a trip up to the Archivist will lead them to find a book that includes information on the species: The Cereus de Anima. This giant flower rapidly grows when a seed from the Land of Rot transfers via someone's clothing to an appropriate forest environment and is known to absorb a piece of a person's essence from anyone it touches with its vines. People often seem to go missing for a short period of time when one of these appears, then come back behaving a little differently but ultimately don't seem to be in distress. No one is quite sure what the cause of this is. There doesn't seem to be any record of there being lasting damage, however questionable the plant is... The Archivist, upon seeing you researching the plant, says that he's heard some of the lake's residents just off of the Silent Shore have some experience with one. He hands you a couple baskets of some specially anti-rust enchanted parts and tells you he was supposed to deliver them to a Selkie man living in the lake for a project he's working on. You and a partner can make the delivery and ask your questions from him.

The Selkie isn't going to be particularly friendly to fellow men, not trusting human men farther than he can throw them, but will decidedly try to seduce women as Selkie men are known to be extremely handsome and flirtatious with human women. Non-humans he will be neutral toward. It's best to go in pairs so you don't end up on a whirlwind candlelit beach picnic with a shirtless selkie in exchange for information about how to uproot a Cereus de Anima. (At the very least, the selkie will want you to take a selfie with him before you leave so that you have something to remember him by, and you'll always be welcome back if you change your mind.) Regardless of how much of a challenge it is for you to get to that point, as long as he gets the delivery from the Archivist, he'll eventually tell you and your traveling partner about how he heard that there used to be a village at the edge of the Dusklight Woods that was overrun with one of them, and that there's only one survivor who moved to in a cottage on the other side of the Pure of Heart Bridge.. Those familiar, yes, it is the old man that Morganna tried to kill and save in a quest a couple of months ago! Time to travel all the way back to the Pure of Heart bridge and make your way over to the cottage and talk to the man and it sure seems like this quest is long and tedious and you may be wondering if someone will have noticed you're gone...

C ⦿ The Answer is No
Back in Camelot City, it seems that anyone who's been touched by the vines has been replaced by a doppelganger in their lives. They're just barely off from the original- they have all the memories, but may be slightly more skilled at things they didn't used to be, or may seem to make less ethical choices than they might otherwise. There's just something slightly off. But when people start using AOL to contact their friends and let them know they've been gone.. well, it may seem like the jig is up, or at least in question.

Those who find out they've been replaced may want to return to Camelot quickly to try to reclaim their lives. Doppelgangers will attempt to kill their original if they come into contact with them when they aren't around other people, so you may need to flee for your life if you haven't gotten good enough at magic to defend yourself yet. Around other people, the doppelgangers will do their best to try to prove themselves the real person and since they were made from the original, will have the same memories as the original character so asking questions that "only ___ would know" may not work. Eventually it will come out that the doppelgangers have occasionally wriggling vines instead of spines underneath their clothing, if you're willing to check that to see who's real, but that won't be common knowledge.

What can be found out from the old man at the Pure of Heart bridge if you choose to leave your doppelganger alone is that Cereus de anima doppelgangers can only live for a month without killing their original and absorbing the rest of their essence. However, if the original plant isn't taken care of with a special venom you can only obtain from certain creatures in the Forest of the Fisher King, the problem will just keep happening over and over until the city is overrun and becomes nothing but a breeding ground for the flower and its replicas.

MOD NOTES:
• All test drive prompts are open to anyone in the game at any time to create your own logs with, but this post should have top-levels by potential new characters only. Current characters may reply to any threads, but should not top-level comment on this post.
• If your application is accepted, you may accept TDM threads as game canon as long as both players consent. Characters may begin threading as soon as their journal is accepted to the communities.
• You can have any animal-style poncho you want! They are themed, not made from actual animals. No animals have been harmed in the making of these ponchos!!
• TIMELINE: The resolution to the third prompt will be in April's event! The first two prompt sets will be during the first week of the month. The doppelganger problem and obnoxious traveling and research will be occurring for the second and third weeks of the month.
• People with green magic may be able to fill something off about the doppelgangers, but may not be able to identify what it is right away. Blood mages will be able to feel that their blood feels the same as the original as they are essentially copies. Cognitive people will be able to use their magic normally except for hypnotic suggestion- the doppelgangers are immune to it, so while you may be able to find other ways to out them, hypnotizing people to tell the truth won't work this time. Doppelgangers are made from the essence of the person, so they will be able to access their phones and accounts. Note that the Cereus de Anima and doppelgangers are not fairies and cannot be contracted with. If a Death Mage attempts to possess a doppelganger, it will technically come in contact with the doppelganger's vine and may end up with more than one doppelganger depending on how many times they try it. Siphon magic can be used to destroy a doppelganger easily, however, the essence that was stolen from the original's soul may be destroyed in the process so it is not recommended as the original may start to feel as though they are no longer a whole person.
• If nothing here tickles your fancy, try one of this month's Quests for your TDM prompt.
• The first "Arrival" prompts are present on every TDM, but contain seasonal tweaks for flavor. All other prompts will change monthly. Make sure to read the Red Spring section on this month's even if you're normally familiar-- the springs are closed this month, check out the alternate prompts!
• Questions about this TDM's content? Comment here! If you have a question about the game at-large, please head over to the FAQ.

I'm not used to magic anyway, so it would likely get in my way.

[He actually puts the gun back in his belt though, because vines can probably dodge the feudal era bullets, and the fire itself isn't enough to do much, but Oda has FUN with the swordplay!]

[YAY KILLING!]

[THIS, HE IS GOOD AT!]

Your enemy now is ME! [Slicing off the "head" of the doppleganger in an easy maneuver, because they really shouldn't have gotten distracted with trying to get behind him or the gun.]

[ Its jarring to say the least.

Watching your head fly off - your head. The doppelgangers head fly off into the distance as if it were nothing less a sack of potatoes. It bothered her, how it felt to watch herself die. However, she attempts to gather her senses despite the stomach feeling grueling and building at the ends of her stomach. The vines that came out of the head reaching and binding for anything - seemingly defeated(?) for now. An issue for later if it weren't she supposes. ]

Can we just... Get out of here?

By all means.

Are you a local, or one of the recent arrivals?

[He vaguely remembers he needs to clean his sword and looks down for some sort of suitable cloth, unfortunately the doppleganger's clothes just shrivel up like the rest of the vines, and he's not sure how sticky or corrosive the vine sap might be.]

[ Mona is already rushing away, walking farther away from the scene. She wants nothing to do with it, nor does she wish to look at it any longer. Her senses are slightly rattled still and its the males voice that brings her back. Despite her hand riding to hide most of her face. Or holding rather, since she feels a bit queasy. ]

Newly arrived... When I have gotten here, I have ran into one issue into the next. I have not been rather fortunate. What about you? You sound like you have been here for a while.

[He watches after her a bit, the brief high of battle already fading as he remembers that Mai was so unsteady on her feet after her first couple of battles that Oda had been getting worried Mai might never snap out of it. For all Nobunaga is more used to deadly women, he keeps trying to remember that women of the future are a bit more... delicate? Sheltered? Not just naive, as Mitsuhide thought, and still even for their bravery... Sensitive! That's the word!]

No. [A shrug.] I'm just -- [HAPPY TO BE OUT OF JAPAN. Wow. That's a terrible thing to say. Even if it's true. He always wanted to travel abroad and especially to Europe, and now there's even lots of interesting people from the future, and things defying everything Nobunaga thought he knew, so much candy to try, so much new technology and ways and culture to embrace!]

[What is the one way he can encompass all that without exactly nailing that nothing has changed from when he was a teenager Fool of Owari?]

[He rubs the back of his neck and offers his hand and falconing arm to help steady Mona as needed.]
I've always want to expand my horizons, and I can't imagine anything broader than this, can you? [Multiple worlds... Japan mostly couldn't even concern itself beyond one single town or province. Never mind the whole island. Or continent. Forget the rest of the world. MULTIPLE worlds? Oda had conquer Japan just so they'd stop being bucket crabs all stuck in such a very very tiny bucket. Now he's free of the bucket, and he can't help running around and wanting to absorb and touch and taste and experience well; everything.]
lunarchain: (Fierce .)

[personal profile] lunarchain 2021-04-06 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ Mona takes in a moment to hear what he says, they pause a long length away from the battlefield that were her other self. Dead. A hand extends to touch upon the offered arm though she is not off balance. Merely just, stomaching a disgusting and disorientating feeling of what had just occurred. The arm is a thankful jest, and she allows herself the moment to steady her thoughts. Lingering eyes staring off into the distance of what had just occurred. ]

I do feel that way, but I suppose presently. I am still overwhelmed and adjusting to the change, it will take time and a lot of studying. To which, I feel upset and dejected since I have spent most of my life studying as it were... Now I need start over again.

[ Mona's gaze returns back toward the other before her, looking at each part of him that stood out to her. He seemed a warrior, and fit for whatever would come his way. ] It is good that you are ready and settled into the new predicament though. Perhaps you could - [ An attempt is made to recollect herself. ] tell me more about this area. About the world and all that you know within it. I am sure you know much with how strong you are of course.

[He laughs softly. And shakes his head.] Wish I could, but I truthfully know very little. [This was Mitsuhide's forte; information gathering. Oda's mostly been running around like his old Fool of Owari ways petting SHEEP actually a Rune Factory wooly, and fighting an oni his own familiar, meeting people from new worlds, and searching for PIE!!!! And any other sweets he can find. Priorities.]

[He only knows ABOUT wormholes in passing through Mai. And he still barely and not really believes magic even CAN be real.]
The plants, climate, architecture, food, and technology remind me of what I've been told of Northeastern Europe. [This is significant to him merely as an anchor, but if it anchors him, maybe it'll orient her. Or distract her from her disturbance about the vine replacement.] There's a mix of technology from my time, like horses, the architecture, hunting. But also from the future of my time, like the smart phones. [Hehehe he didn't even trip over that word!] And there's multiple different worlds people are pulled from, so not everyone has Europe or Japan from my world in theirs, just as I don't have Zemuria or-- [Ahhhh this was why he literally wrote down notes. He forgot a name already. He never was a good student, for all he grilled the foreign missionaries and merchants on every last bit of information he could get out of them!]

[There's a brief falter, and then an apologetic grin!]
Magic in mine.

Oh, and timelines! I'm not too sure about the specifics. I know people who know each other can be here days, weeks, or even years apart, but people from the same world can be centuries apart too.

Some people have more advanced guns, but I've yet to see the role magic has in diminishing their usefulness or not. [Oda says nothing can beat his gun, okay okay.]

[He would also argue that he is not that strong, he's just more ruthless and arguably psychotic than everyone else, but even he knows it isn't going to help calm her down any to say that.]

[He could also expand on the morals differing 500 years in the future and the women being more sensitive, and the curse word "fuck" and its vulgar meaning and why that's a taboo (which he now agrees is a good thing that it should be taboo!) -- but again... that's far from helpful.]

Oh! And cameras! They take pictures! [He can't help how excited he is about it. Do you know how long sitting still for a painting takes?!] Instantaneously! Your smart phone can do it too!

Do you have a favorite candy, or sweet? [DISTRACT!]

[ Mona felt he was overwhelming, each piece of information that he revealed had been a catastrophic truth that she never realized until this moment. It questioned everything she knew about the world - what she knew about her world. That is to say, the idea that there were more universes out there. Or that, perhaps ultimately there were things that laid far deep within the bowels of the ocean of stars. Did not seem odd to her, not with Alice having brought presents stating as much to Klee. However, to have this consequentially thrown upon her. Fragment of information after the next, attempting to scientifically quadrant the mathematical truth to it all.

It was impossible, and it overwhelmed her. He spoke and each sentence that fell from his lips, seemed to swallow Mona into an interjection of thought. Wherein, she continued to think, and did not find herself without a moment of clear concise thought. He spoke, and she continued to put a definition on all of this - the best that she could. All she could think arguably in the end was that, The Fatui Scaramouche was right? That was enough to bring out this dissatisfying sigh.

Mona needed a moment, though come the next day she may be awespired to tackle the new world of science upon her. However, in this moment. She was overwhelmed. ]

I... I am not in the mood for candy... [ Well as ever ill timed as ever, her stomach growls. Shamefully she looks away, and attempts to hide her expression behind the hat upon her head. ] P-Perhaps I could go for some food however... A-After all there is much about what you told me just now that I need to understand about... [ Shes trying to casually push the incident off as if it werent embaressing to her. ]

[Don't feel too bad Mona, Oda Nobunaga is an overwhelming catastrophic force to even the strongest of his world, and a headache or worse to all who meet him.]

[They couldn't be more opposite. And honestly that probably bodes well for her in just that she's normal, sane, and rational enough!]

Sure thing! Easier to digest while digesting! [GET IT? GET IT??? Seriously, don't be like him.]

[She can have shepherd's pie but Oda is going to find something sweet if it kills him! He finds a place purely on instinct, but once they hit the doorway he's briefly in shock.]

[Everyone's wearing their shoes... indoors to eat! That's so disgusting! But by the same token, no one's sitting on the floor on cushions, it's all chairs. He sort of knew this was coming from the European style beds, but it's still a huge shock! Especially the shoes thing!]

When in Rome...

[This has become a bit of a mantra to him, and he never thought he'd miss Luis Frois and the other missionaries, but now he desperately wants their aid, if just to ask them questions. At least he's already used to European utensils, much to the chagrin of his tutors as a child.]

[He escorts Mona to a table and chair -- not out of chivalry (he literally doesn't know better) but because she had seemed unsteady before (and it'd be a nuisance to have to pick her up off the floor where DIRTY SHOES HAVE BEEN!) and grabs a chair for himself. Only to promptly get irritated trying to figure out how to sit in a way where his armor, sword and gun aren't jabbing him awkwardly.]

[Remember that overwhelming thing? Well, Oda fusses like a five year old child in overly fancy itchy clothes at a funeral, and moves the chair and his position in it about fifteen times. Eventually he sets the back to the table, leans his arms on the head, and decides he'll just stay like that for the time being. Copying what everyone else is doing only goes so far. Especially when they wear shoes indoors. He might have idealized Europe enough that the disillusionment is wearing off rapidly. Nanban indeed!]

They don't have chairs such as these where I'm from. [At least he realizes he should explain himself a little? And he knocks on the wooden chair.] Good carpentry though! [With an underlying tone of, "of course, that's to be expected."]

I'm Oda Nobunaga. [He goes back to watching how other people sit in the chairs and... nope! He's not gonna do it! At least he's not stubbornly sitting on the floor, but again, only because dirty shoes!]

[On the other hand, there's no one really freaking out about his sword and gun, so that's nice. And while he always assumed Europe would be like that, it's good to have real confirmation. Also kind of stereotypical nanban. Oda's starting to rethink his whole "Europe is more sophisticated than we are!" stance a bit hardcore.]

[And then he wonders if he just picked a bad place!? Except there are other women here, so it can't be like some kind of soldier's camp, or black market meeting spot. Culture clash, nothing more.]

[He remembers how shook Mai was, between the wormhole, seeing death, and time period clash. Once again Oda mentally roves for a good distraction since he has no Go board with him, and he can't exactly just provide the comforts of Azuchi castle now.]

What did you do before here?

[That was something Mai liked to talk about, and Lady Momo, and most others seemed willing to tentatively open up on.]

[If nothing else it was a decent foundation for helping her find similarities; familiar things to anchor to.]

W-Wait... Do you have Money for this world? [ Mona cannot help but trail behind the other who excitedly with such haste about him. Moved forward with each step into the direction of his own choice. Truly, Mona was in for a ride with this individual, and he were taking her out for a very - wild stroll. More or less. When they enter the shop her eyes veer about in their familiarity. Nothing marked her as wrong, except that she knew no one within the area.

She is quite surprise when he offers her a place to sit, perhaps she truly looked far too out of it. Regardless, she manages to settle into the seat. Hands placed upon her lap, looking over to the male who seemed - ever agitated at how to sit. She tries... Very quietly, awkwardly, and rather embarrassed to be with him. To help... ]
Just... Take off the weaponry.. Can you not unsummon it?

[ The male bounces about like Klee does when she is having one of her excitable moments. To which Mona could do nothing but watch with mild bewilderment. Her eyes just chase the lad as he bounds along the area attempting to sit himself comfortably, and copy the world around him. Mona was - so confused over the circumstances presented to her. It felt more that he were the fish out of the water, than her ultimately. A part of her needed to steel her nerves and ransack some of the pride she always had. So that she could help the other male.... With his.... Ways. ]

I was- er... I am an astrologist. I study the stars and history of my world to find the truth of the future and of others.... I am the Great Mona Megitus. I presume you do not know who I am because you are from another world. Fret not, you are with a renowned astrologer. With your weaponry? I presume you are - perhaps an adventurer? Or?

Yes.

[He had definitely not had any money at first, not of this world, or even his own! But there's a reason he's on the quest to deal with the missing persons and etc.]

[There's no way in hell he's going to take off his sword and gun! ARE YOU CRAZY?! Crazier than HE is?!]

My gun and sword are not summoned. [Magic isn't real, Mona.]

[No okay, it's not real in HIS world.]

[Astrologist. Fortune teller.]

[Oh for crying out loud.]

[Speaking of things that aren't real...]

[He refrains from just blatantly dismissing her skills(...) and occupation to her face though! And considers that good.]

[He'd LOVE to be an adventurer!!!!!!!!! OH GOSH!!!!]

[As it stands though... he can't even admit he LIKES adventure.]

Demon King.

[.... No, it's just... that's his deal. That's why he's so hated by Buddhist monks he sets fire to... Etc. And it's not like he can easily explain the general and teaching soldiers how to use guns and set mountains aflame thing etc. Really, Demon King covers it.]

[He looks directly at her then.]
So being without your astrology, starting over, would be like me without being my gun and sword or any means to get them. Having to start over with new weapons. [Okay, he gets that. He'd have been freaking out even worse than she was in that case!]

D-Demon King? [ The way he says that as well - it is so matter-of-factly. Mona cannot help but feel even more exasperated. In her realm however, the notion of Demons and ideologies like that were unknown. Rather the name or sound of it - stemmed closely to her understanding of what Karma was from Liyue - or Oni. She is attempting to rationalize the title or name he states but there again, is too much for her to drink in on the moment.

At least she is getting free food, and at least she can invest a lot of thought about who he is. What he does - and his importance afterwards. The fact of it was, Mona was information gathering. With no book or ability to scribe what she could as he spoke. The astrologist merely attempted to hold what he said into her mind. To remember to ask another time. ]

No.. No - it's much more... Decisive than that. Imagine having the map to the world before you that you can invest, and acknowledge at any time. Or a book you can pluck about the situation that you are in, and being able to read or value it for what it is. I can no longer do this, the future is unbeknownst to me.. I am unable to do anything about that. Everything is knew, and I have been slowly attempting to read the stars of this world. However, it is extremely overwhelming. There are quite a number of constellations for me to begin graphing. Let alone - I feel as if the constellations are never the same each evening. [ Mona spoke as if he could understand, but she at least wanted to tell him the truth. She was not someone who contended with lies, or held back any bit of information regardless of whether or not the other could understand her. OR believe her for that matter. ]

[He is 100% an oni. And his familiar is an oni just to prove this!]

[As she explains her view on it...]

[Nobunaga just sort of re-lowers his assessment. For a moment he was almost empathetic. He's not really one with empathy, because uh... Demon King. But for all he almost understood her plight... it goes RIGHT OUT the window!]

[He is also without his knowledge of the situation; in that he wanted the missionaries to pepper full of questions. His future is ONLY what he MAKES it. So the more people from 500 years to his future tell him that he completed the dream and Japan is great; it only strengthens his resolve that yes, he has to actually accomplish that, or it won't actually happen; but only its own time! It's moot here! NOT knowing everything here, having it all be new and beyond his wildest imagination is the best part, and what truly makes it an adventure, not just a surreal dream!]

[But he does acknowledge it disturbs her.]

[And he can tell the truth in all of that, which is something he still takes for granted. He has no idea what he'd do if he stopped being able to read people easier than books. But then, that's so much a part of what allowed him to survive, there's a reason one of his best friends (in as much as the Demon King has friends, more like allies) is opaque and mysterious to everyone, even Nobunaga! Because he'd get bored otherwise!]

[While she says it's not really like having his gun and sword being missing--]

[He goes back to that all the same.]

When you first started mapping the stars of your world, were you not filled with a sense of a wonder, and ambition, and purpose? Each time you picked up that map telling you the future, didn't you think, this is what you wanted to be doing?

[Because otherwise he has to think of her in terms of the Buddhist monks, and that won't work well for either of them. Besides, she's not lying. So she's probably more like his religious (blood) brothers and a genuine believer, at minimum. And... magic MIGHT be real in other worlds. And that it is real in other worlds might even be WHY there's fiction about it in his own. MAYBE. It's an idea he's still toying with until he can better accept it anyway!]

[He shakes his head, and puts the Tanegashima gun on the table.]

When I first picked up the gun, I was only a child. Barely a teen. It took more arm strength than even a bow for me, in order to keep it steady and handle the backlash. Right away, I could see its possibilities. How it could outclass the swords, even make them obsolete. Everyone said it was impossible. [Even worse, and called him an idiot and tried to kill him, and his mentor killed himself to get Nobunaga to stop playing around -- but it's ancient history to him now.]

[He tucks the gun back into his belt, shifting again to try to find a way to keep his weapons still at the ready.]
I met another man here with a much stronger gun, and all I could think of was the possibilities. For even greater.

You keep seeing what is missing, but you're missing what is here. New charts, new stars, not being well-known, new magic. You called them misfortune, but I wonder. Even running into the vines double; led you to me, did it not? [Yes. He is REALLY that arrogant that he thinks chance meetings with him is good luck. At least if he doesn't kill the person. Well, he killed her double. You know what, forget he brought that up!]

When you picked up astrology, why was it?

[
When you first started mapping the stars of your world, were you not filled with a sense of a wonder, and ambition, and purpose? Each time you picked up that map telling you the future, didn't you think, this is what you wanted to be doing?

When she picked up her first map, it had been her teacher who instructed her to learn. The woman were concise in her teachings. Mona's heart however, inevitably sought for something more earnest in the principles of human belief. When she were afforded kindness by those who were of lesser in circumstance, or held hearts full of such evil that they would still act kindly. These were subjected flavors of the world that were not spoken of within the stars. Mona herself, broke off from her teachers design. Wishing for the truth of her own, even if it meant she would live her life pursuing the value of this questionable Principle.

When she first started mapping, there was no sense of wonder. A sense of beauty perhaps - when she looked at the stars. She saw nothing but their colors and the fury that were behest their existence. The lights that beguiled her - with their beauty. Did not incite wonder at first. What their meanings were, held little pretense toward her. It wasn't until she dove deeper into her studies, and began to question the holes in everything that she learned. After all, what was the reason for the girl who lived in poverty. To take up the Maps of astrology that she did, and look into the stars to find the meaning of Truth? That was her teachers intention, but the desire of seeking beyond what the Stars foretold. Was her destiny, and wonder.

Ambition.

You keep seeing what is missing, but you're missing what is here. New charts, new stars, not being well-known, new magic. You called them misfortune, but I wonder. Even running into the vines double; led you to me, did it not?

His comment does not go without the caustic look of the jaded Astrologer. She minds her manners, seemingly white colord orbs. Flitting over toward the male proud and rightfully prideful of what he were. He had told her a story, about his life she presumed. Unfortunately, whether there was truth to it or not. Was to be decided, but as it were Mona felt no reason the other had to lie to her. Further, she was certain in his own way this was his rallied attempt at siphoning her mind into the new world.

It had worked, ultimately. He was right, and she did not ignore that. ]

A gateway, into my Destiny. So that I could find the truth of the world, and the universe therein. It is a tool, my tool of Science. Where I will figure out on my own.

What it is the universe wishes to hide.

Mark my words, sir Oda Nobunaga. I will become the most renowned Astrologist here and everywhere. This is truly the mark of the Stars. Destiny is upon me of course, I knew that. Shall we celebrate with a good meal then? [ She is very hyped and sparkling along with him! ]

Absolutely!

[He still doesn't believe in destiny or that stars can tell anything, but he delights in being shown more about existence than he could even imagine, so hey, prove him wrong!]

Is the food here much like what you'd expect in your world?
lunarchain: (Gaze .)

[personal profile] lunarchain 2021-04-08 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
In a matter of speaking I suppose. I do not need to subject myself to foods like such, since it is that I am a Astrologist and cannot subject myself to these frivolities.

[ She states, trying to act better than what she were. It wasn't the truth, frankly she just could not afford to eat and often were extremely poor. ]

However, the food here smells absolutely delicious so I will give it that. What of yourself? Are these delicacies different on your world?

[personal profile] konpeito_aji 2021-04-08 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Really?

[Ugh. Not the abstaining from sweets again! Damn you Buddhism! LET PEOPLE HAVE CANDY!!!]

World, no. Island, yes.

Japan in my time is secluded from the rest of the world. Everything here is more akin to Northeastern Europe. [Hehe northeastern = bad luck and why he named his oni familiar Kimon! Not... that nearly anyone gets it. Mitsuhide kind of, but Mitsuhide is a special case on everything in regards to Oda. His reactions are generally the same, and Mitsuhide has no tastebuds so candy and foreign food is utterly lost on him!!] Usually we'd eat outside. And you're never supposed to wear shoes indoors. [Head shake!] Like I said, we don't have chairs like these. And there's no grand tea ceremonies here...

Ah. Part of being the Demon King... I wanted to know everything about Europe, even though it was oftentimes forbidden or looked down upon. The priests call them heretics, or barbarians, and want to keep out any foreigners. [Shrug and arrogant smirk.] I was the opposite. Guns come from them, my favorite candies, they proved the world is round, and told me about the other continents. A lot of Japan was hopelessly fractured by infighting and the monks wanted everyone to focus locally, not bigger.

But my guides to the outside world... I know now I asked a lot of wrong questions. [A small laugh and a headshake.] I always asked about the economics, the governments, the trade, the production...

Have you ever seen a sheep before here? [Listen, he had priorities. Just not sane ones. It was candy, and seeing a sheep. To be fair, the sheep thing was to do with production because wool, and food, but still!] We don't have them in Japan. So no wool, and not as food. And we don't have wheat. Everything is rice. Rice balls, rice flour, rice noodles, rice with fish. We don't have sugar either! Konpeito, a confetti candy, was a gift from the missionaries to my land!

[His dream... to let Japan become so prosperous everyone could have konpeito all they want and the monks and bandits, corrupt lords, and fear of offending the spirits, couldn't stop people from enjoying life.]

A woman told me of pies, like Chinese mooncakes. Only they use pie for everything here! Sheep pie, fruit pie, nut pie, root pie!

It's very different from what I'm used to. Nothing I had my whole life.

These are all things that are not from my land... Interestingly enough. [ Mona felt herself salivating just a bit, the idea of food caused her stomach to grumble again. She was so hungry - always hungry as it were. The idea that there were so many kinds of foods were always so interesting to her. Especially as someone who did not really explore restaurants - feeling that it was wasteful to eat out. Or as someone who barely got around to trying different kinds of foods. ] Do you mean you get to try so much here? I suppose that would make sense, logically speaking. If there are other people on this world like us, from other universes. They must know, and bring with them tons of wonderful recipes from all across the unfathomable universe.

Yes. [Nod!] And much of the technology and people are from five hundred years to my future.

[Nobunaga didn't really "eat out" either before, on account of the danger of being poisoned. He had a poison tester since childhood, and that made his candy stashes all the more precious!]
