A ⦿ Soaking in Your Arrival
Regardless of what you were in the middle of, you and your familiar have been magically pulled into the world of Avalon just above the Bay's waters. After a brief plunge into the Bay, the rush of water filling your ears and soaking up into every creak and crevice of your body, you may need to cough to clear your airways when you rise above the surface. It's still chilly, but not enough that you can't manage on your own. The Lady of the Lake is swimming around under the water, helping to rescue any wayward travelers who look like they're struggling in the water. This month's helpers are giant pillow jellies, a species of jellyfish that is capable of ballooning itself at the surface to create bouncy pads for characters to hop across to the shore, should they choose or not be able to swim. They come in a variety of bioluminescent colors, but do not seem to be very talkative even to animal magic users. Those who try may find themselves being ignored, even if they hear the jellies talking amongst themselves about this and that. If anyone tries to ask the Lady of the Lake for directions, she will direct you to Archimedes at the Rent-a-Ride. The shores themselves are littered with new arrivals complaining their way up a staircase carved into the walls of the White Cliffs. There is no railing, so be careful, but if you do fall, be prepared for a mysterious sand hand to reach out of the side of the cliffs to catch you. The hand will pat you atop the head twice before retreating back into the wall. This is the Cliff Beast; despite the name, he is quite friendly. (Though.. given how hot and muggy the weather is this first week, maybe you might want to ask him to toss you right back into the lake where the waters are still cool.) *Reminder: Your character's familiar may or may not be with your character in their initial plunge. If the familiar isn't partial to water, it may meet your character on the beach or sit atop their head while they swim. Or if they are, they might splash about and swim alongside your character. Familiars have different personalities and body specs and we leave those up to the players. B ⦿ The Caravan to Camelot
These carriages use fae technology that combats weight, so your character will be able to get in regardless of whether they're light as a feather or weigh two tons. The carts have air conditioning when it's hot, heating when it's cold, and a mystical shield to protect from bugs. There is also a mini-bar that pops out of the console with nip bottles. Characters can use their smartphones to connect to Camelot's internet service, C ⦿ The Red Spring
If you don't want to relax in the room, try taking a dip in the spring for another chance to meet your fellow travelers. The waters have restorative properties that help horses and travelers recover quickly when drunk. It is known to relieve stress, improve energy levels, and mildly accelerate healing. It may be a little chilly when you get out though, so make sure you don't slip rushing back indoors when you get out! The springs are also home to a large training grounds just outside town limits, where there are teachers who will teach basic magic safety and help you discover what kind of magic you have together with other new arrivals. Try target practice, obstacle courses, meditation circles, and other ways to try to figure out just what you can do... if you didn't already have an accidental discovery on the ride there. ![]()
After arriving, people may have heard about recent events-- the people of Camelot voted against war and to instead accept the trials of the people of Celliwig. The trials are now concluded, and a good number of people are emotionally exhausted and taking time to recover. Word from Celliwig has not yet arrived, but across multiple social media platforms, including AOL, there are clips of Merlin's cryptic addendum to Arthur's announcement along with notes that the meeting date was delayed a couple of days due to the awful weather and a need to rest after how bleak the trials were to some people. With people down and out, it won't hurt to have the new arrivals pitch in and learn a thing or two.
No matter what, make sure you bring someone who can watch your back. Rumors have it that the Fuath are harassing anything that comes near the area. Fuath are intangible spirits that may present as giant humanoids at about 8-9 feet each, but with the mane and tail of a yellow horse, with no noses and keen eyes. They hold grudges against anyone who takes advantage of their surroundings, even if not their own, and will come to attempt to throw those who try to take from the ships and flying through the air to land somewhere else in the water. Be very cautious about using names around the Fuath, as though they do not speak in human tongue, they have a particular ability to draw people and animals in using names that makes them very difficult to escape once you've been found. They've been known to turn familiars against their partners. They can be deterred, dissipated through attack to buy you time, but they'll keep coming so get in and out of the ship as fast as you can and definitely stick to more combat-heavy magics like dark and cognitive mages! *Note: These magics are all examples of ways to use primary magic, but feel free to get creative with your character's magic if you think of something else! B ⦿ Hoist the Flags
It certainly won't clean up all the algae and kelp and wayward flopping fish, it brings the ship back to a livable state.. and a much cooler, more explorable one. Get a quick exploration of the ship and help clean up some of the lake slime before Merlin flags over the traders. Or goof around until then, and learn a sick free spell called (Recipe) Cool Firework: create a rocket firework from your fingertips. Make sure you're aiming it into the sky when you cast this spell, or Merlin will set off a Camelot totem right beneath your feet. No sinking the ship when they just got it up. The fireworks will attract the Elphame Traders, who are leaving the day after they close up shop to head back to Elphame, before the set out to leave. Merlin negotiates offering the ship to them as an offering for Queen Elphame to give them permission to travel in the Elphame territory. At that point, the ship is pulled into the docks and Camelot citizens are ushered out for the fae traders to take over the ship. C ⦿ Beach Episode
![]()
Just because people are tired doesn't mean that the world stops for them... crime certainly doesn't. Throughout the start of the month, people are going missing. Exactly what's happening.. well, finding the truth out about that is going to depend on your perspective.
"Let's see.. You two, you'll be the first fight of the night. Winner gets dinner, gyahaha!" It's a fighting ring. You've been kidnapped into a fighting ring and there's no obvious escape! Fight against fellow captives and monsters for your dinner and to buy time to figure out what you're going to do... At least you start hand to hand, so there's nothing lethal... right? (See Audience for more details.) B ⦿ Audacious Audience
C ⦿ Roaring Rescuers
Follow all the leads, and you'll find yourself at an outlying, smaller-scale castle with a dungeon tower and an underground fighting ring built beneath its floors. Sneak in and unlock individual fighter dungeon doors while the fights are providing a wealth of distraction. Maybe you'll find a grateful Fogueria who casts a temporary fire-immunity spell on you to allow you to do ride them into battle to bust up the fight going on right now. There's definitely gratitude going on, regardless of moral compass, and you may find gifts of food and drink (non-alcoholic if you're not old enough) placed at your door over the next week for your deeds. MOD NOTES: • All test drive prompts are open to anyone in the game at any time to create your own logs with, but this post should have top-levels by potential new characters only. Current characters may reply to any threads, but should not top-level comment on this post. • If your application is accepted, you may accept TDM threads as game canon as long as both players consent. Characters may begin threading as soon as their journal is accepted to the communities. • We are testing out formats for key points displays, to be voted on for player preference based on what seems to work best for the most people. The other options were used here (end of post summary format) and here (start of post preview format). The format featured on this post is the last option, which will provide small summaries under the banner of each prompt set. A poll will be put up before the next event to see which format will be used going forward, so please keep in the back of your mind which seems most comfortable/makes the content more easily accessible. •If nothing here tickles your fancy, try one of this month's Quests for your TDM prompt. • The first "Arrival" prompts are present on every TDM, but contain seasonal tweaks for flavor. All other prompts will change monthly. • Questions about this TDM's content? Comment here! If you have a question about the game at-large, please head over to the FAQ. |

Oh. 9S...
[Fondness does settle into her visible features when she describes the one person she can pick out in a crowd—her lips turn upward into a smile, and she looks around the beach for the boy dressed in all black. Not a very convenient outfit for a hot day at the beach...
She spots him near the water, observing something in the sand, and still wearing those ridiculous hot pink sunglasses over his visor.]
He's been busy. I think he's more interested in the humans than he is being my shadow.
[Which is fine, but is there a hint of jealousy there? Perhaps.]
no subject
[She catches the change in 2B’s expression at the thought of him. Then lets her own gaze follow the direction the the other woman looks and spots him. She notices the bright sunglasses over his visor and blinks a bit, a quizzical expression crossing her face.]
Um… what the hell is he wearing? Doesn’t he realize if he wants to wear those ridiculous glasses, it’d work better without the damn visor?
[She looks back at 2B as a three tailed cat ran up her own form to settle on A2’s shoulder, causing a look of annoyance to cross her features as she picks it up and puts it down.]
Please tell me you told him how ridiculous he looks? The humans are interesting; I won’t deny that. I haven’t spoken to too many yet. Been here maybe two or three weeks. Still trying to adjust to the night and day cycle, and just the everyday rhythm of things.
no subject
Her attention turns back to 9S.]
I did, but I think they suit him.
[Ridiculousness and all. It must look completely silly to others who don't understand what their visors are, but to her, it's very... Him. She'd be disappointed if he didn't go all out.
Besides a hum, 2B falls silent following A2's news, wondering what to make of it. The explanations she's gotten about the world, and what to expect back home don't leave her feeling any better about their situation, so hearing that she's been here a few weeks? It's daunting. There's still a war to finish on Earth.
2B shakes her head, dismissing the thought.]
Are the humans anything like you thought they'd be?
no subject
No, they really aren't. Honestly though, I suppose I didn't really know what to expect with them. But they can be utterly stupid as fuck when it comes to certain things, and from what I've observed have varying facets of personality.
[She paused as she thought about what to say, a slight frown on her face.]
They have different rituals and beliefs, it's quite complex; I was also corrected by one saying not to assume someone is human here, just because they look it.
[She knocked a beach ball that had gone astray away from them back towards the people that were playing with it.]
Still learning about this place though. I can't really answer a lot of questions myself.
no subject
[She hadn't expected A2 to know much about them, or this world. It's complex, just like she said, as are the humans... That sort of thing was something 2B would leave up to 9S to solve, which is exactly what she's done, and he's more than happy to take on that responsibility. If anything important comes up, she trusts he'll let her know. At least she and A2 are on the same page. They've an odd relationship, but if anything, it was always consistent.
There are some other things that concern her, though. Specifically about him and A2... Perhaps there are some things that she can answer.
After some silence while she watches the people catch their beach ball, 2B sighs.]
I don't know what will happen if 9S finds out you're here.
no subject
Then 2B said that odd thing, causing her to turn towards her with a very confused and quizzical look on her face.]
What do you mean if he finds out I’m here?
no subject
The last time we saw you was in the forest kingdom, in the castle.
[2B turns to face A2 fully now, although her footing is a bit awkward in the sand, and her moose gives her a nudge in the arm to help balance her properly. She hates the sand.
For a moment, she does wonder how much she should divulge to A2. With the Bunker now gone, and YoRHa facing its end, does it really matter? Any run-ins they've had previously, and any orders she or 9S received—none of that has any bearing on what they do here... Right?
So, she comes right out with it, but this is probably something she's known for a while.]
We received a kill order from Command.
[Well, this is awkward.]
no subject
That’s the last time I saw you two, yes. So, they still can’t let me go, hmm?
[She let out a frustrated sigh as she ran her fingers through her hair. It pissed her off. She was sick of beating them over and over again. It was annoying and boring.]
Can it at least wait until it’s a fair fight. I’m not exactly armed here.
[What a way to ruin a perfectly good day.]
no subject
She knows this is probably not something that anyone would want to hear, ever, but it needed to be said before 9S tried to do anything reckless and got himself hurt in the end. He doesn't remember all the times they've faced off before, but 2B does... She's had to go along with it then, but not this time. Her job was never about exterminating her, so she couldn't care less about what happens.]
A2. [She nods her head in understanding before continuing. There's a reason why she's saying all of this!] I will try not to let it happen, but I can't make promises. You just needed to know before it did.
[9S can be a little bit reckless sometimes...]
no subject
Thanks for the heads up. Try to convince him off that train of thought, even if you need to tighten his leash a bit. But if he tries hacking me, I will defend myself. But I’ll minimize the damage. Though I would rather not fight.
[She turned back towards 2B.]
There’s no Commander’s boots to lick here. But from the sounds of it, it’s a good thing I ran into you before him.
no subject
I don't think he has his hacking capabilities here, but I'll make sure it doesn't come to that.
[If it's any reassurance at all. She might have to sit him down and have a talk. There are probably repercussions for that sort of thing here, and she'd rather not have 9S have to face the consequences of his impulsive actions.
With that out of the way, 2B is able to exhale the tension out of her shoulders, letting out the breath she didn't realize she was holding in. It was important to her that she said so after running into her, and she is also glad that it was her rather than 9S that A2 had met first.
She tries to keep her voice light now.]
Have you tried breaking a melon yet?
no subject
[She notices the released tension in the other android. The air did feel a bit lighter once everything was out in the open.
When 2B changed the subject to breaking the watermelons, she has an almost adorable look of bewilderment on her face.]
Uh, no. I can’t say I have.
no subject
[It's not often that she's the one inviting others to go out and 'have fun', but without any sense of duty to fulfill here—no orders from command, no machines to destroy—she's trying to take a page out of 9S's book, and the humans, too.
He'd be disappointed in her if she didn't.]
I think you'd be good at it. Too good.
no subject
[She was startled at the invitation from 2B. Though a small smile came over her features. It’s not like they had to keep pretenses up here after all.]
Too good, hmm? Well I haven’t worn anything over my eyes for years. But I’m guessing I won’t be seeing out of that one.
[She motioned towards the blindfolds that the humans were wearing as they attempted to whack the watermelons.]
no subject
2B huffs, in an almost-laugh.]
I don't think so. The humans wearing it don't know left from right.
[She folds her arms and motions for A2 to follow her to the front.]
If you play fair, then nothing about it is unfair to them, right?
no subject
How can you not know left from right? It’s basic knowledge that shouldn’t rely on sight.
[She follows 2B to the front, letting her take the lead, since she was the one who asked her to do this.]
Of course I can play fair. But we are physically superior to them.
no subject
"Step right up, lad—er??" [The man on the podium hosting the event eyes 2B's face, specifically her visor, putting him at a loss for words.] "You know the blindfold's only for the game, right?"
[He's laughing, but she's not laughing, and only stares him down until it fades away into nothing. Too bad he can't see her drilling holes into his forehead while he hands a blindfold to A2 under the assumption that she'll be the one taking the challenge.]
"You get three strikes before you're out. Now put this on, pretty lady, and we'll get your partner here to spin you round a few times!"
no subject
[She gave a small huff at the man’s reaction to 2B. It would make more sense for her to take off the visor here, but to each their own. Hers was probably long disintegrated in the dirt back home.
When the man turned towards her, she took the offered cloth. She had a momentary panic, tightening her grip on it.]
Understood.
[She slowly brought it up to her eyes, the motion old but familiar to her and tied it off. But she was right, she couldn’t see shit out of this one.]
Ready.
no subject
[She isn't sure why she feels the need to reassure A2 of that, but perhaps it's instinct passing over from her time with 9S. Taking her by the shoulders, 2B spins her around once, twice, and three times, stopping her when she's facing the melon, and guides the bat into the other android's hands.]
What now...? [she asks the man, and he claps his hands.]
"On three! One... two... THREE!"
[The crowd cheers, and 2B steps back, giving A2 the room she needs to make the swing.]
no subject
This thing feels like it’s going to break.
[She wants to get this fucking blindfold off. For some reason it was really getting to her. The tension and small tremble in her form barely noticeable. The humans wouldn’t notice it at all.
She raised the stupidly light bat up in one hand, and on the three count sent it down hard on the watermelon, splitting it, sending juice and meat going everywhere, and an audible crack from the bat.]
I think I got it.
[Hearing the cheers confirmed it. She got the fruit. She held the bat out for the man to take and ripped off the blindfold. Fruit pieces everywhere, including on her. Then looked at 2B.]
Got it.
no subject
The crowd's cheering is so loud that she can hardly hear A2.]
Too easy.
[She reaches down and picks up a piece of the broken melon, holding it in her palms.]
... Can we eat this?
no subject
That was a little anti-climatic. Very easy, but I can see where it would be more difficult for the humans. Though we are both a mess, but we could probably rinse off in the water.
[She picked up a piece as well, looking at the others eating it.]
They are, so apparently it's edible. Do you want to try? I can try it with you.
no subject
2B is hesitant, staring at the melon and holding it as if it were a delicate bomb that could go off at a single wrong move. She's not sure what she was hoping the answer to her question would be, but a tiny part of her thinks that it would have been 'no, it's not edible.'
She makes a noise in the back of her throat.]
I suppose if these do harm us, 9S might be able to help...?
[That's reassuring.]
no subject
She looked from 2B and back to the watermelon, a little hesitant herself. She wasn't sure how much an android could eat. She knew they could, but she was never sure on what or how much, so she never bothered.]
Well, if something happens he'll probably help you. He'd probably just let me lay there on the ground. Mission complete and all that.
[There was a bit of sarcastic humor coloring her voice as she took a deep breath and brought it to her lips. She was worried and took a bite of it. The juice running down her chin, taking her by surprise as she brought her hand up to catch it.]
no subject
She watches in horror when A2 takes a bite of the watermelon, and waits to see if there are any side-effects of the fruit...
So far, so good.]
Do you like it...?
